How to Putt Better | Secret Tips | 3 Amazing Tips to Setup

Believe it or not, “How do I setup for the putter?” is something I get asked all the time.

With the growing popularity of the “big 3” (Dave Stockton, Stan Utley and Dave Pelz), it seems there’s an overwhelming amount of information out there on how to putt.

If you’re like most who have tried to watch every video and read every one of their books, you’ve probably seen more confusion than improvement, am I right?

HERE ARE MY 3 KEYS TO GREAT SETUP:

  1. STANCE
  2. BALL POSITION
  3. WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION

The most common setup mistake I see that is covered in this new Premium video is ball position.

This is a big one, because proper ball position is one of the most important keys to striking putts solidly and starting them on line.

THE DO AND DON’TS  OF BALL POSITION

Too Far Back – When the ball is too far back in your stance, you’re going to be hitting down on the ball with a descending blow. This is going to smash the ball down into the grass, and then it’s going to hop up.

Too Far Forward – When the ball is too far forward in your stance, you’re going to be hitting the ball with an ascending blow. This is going to cause the ball to loft into the air, and it’s going to start to bounce that way, too.

Juuuuust Right – I want you to do something for me to help you visualize this correctly. Imagine drawing a line in the center of your stance, OK? Now place the back of the ball on that line, and boom, you’ve got it!

By having the ball in the center of your stance, it’s going to allow you to contact the ball at the very bottom of the swing arc, and it’s going to get a great roll right away.
