What's in Chuck Quinton's Golf Bag?

In this brief overview, I will share the essential clubs in my golf bag, highlighting what makes my setup unique and effective. Understanding the equipment I use can provide insights into how to elevate your own game.

Irons: Ping Blueprints

I play with Ping Blueprints, which are standard lofted irons but with one and a half degrees flat on the lies. My choice of these clubs stems from their ability to help me achieve a higher ball flight, particularly when hitting into long par fours and par fives. I use a cavity back starting with the six-iron, allowing me to launch the ball around 15 feet higher than I could with blades.

Woods: Callaway Smokes

For my fairway woods, I have a 5-wood and a 3-wood from Callaway’s Smoke line, set at 15° and 18° respectively. These clubs have proven to be reliable and effective for my style of play.

Driver: A Different Approach

My driver is set at 9° but played at 10°. Although some might think I should use a lower loft with my swing speed of 125 miles per hour, I prefer to hit down on the ball. This approach prioritizes control and accuracy over sheer distance, ensuring that I can keep the ball in play.

Shafts: Consistency Across Clubs

In terms of shafts, I utilize 75x Flex Tour AD across my woods, with a slight variation in my driver, where I use a 65x Flex. This consistency helps maintain my swing dynamics across different clubs.

The Game-Changer: Grips

Now, let’s talk about one of the most significant upgrades I’ve made: my grips. I was introduced to these exceptional grips by a tour player I work with. They are made from real leather, specifically kangaroo leather, and feature a plant-based coating that enhances their stickiness. You can hear the grip as my fingers adhere to it, providing an incredible feel during the swing.

Unlike typical rubber grips that lose their tackiness over time, these grips improve with use. They feel stickier the more I play with them, allowing me to swing harder and release the club more aggressively without fear of losing control. Although they are priced around $30 per grip, their durability and enhanced performance make them a worthwhile investment. In fact, I was so impressed with them that I decided to carry them on the RotarySwing store.
