How to Putt - Hand Dominance
How to Putt - Hand Dominance
Description
Determining whether you are right or left hand dominant in your putting stroke is one of the most important aspects to learning how to putt and rolling the ball like a pro. In this video, golf instructor Chuck Quinton discusses the importance of monitoring the putter face angle through impact with the dominant hand in order to start your putts online.
Video Practice Points
- Putting is the great equalizer - a good putter can often save par even without hitting 300-yard drives
- The most important part of a putt is controlling the putter face angle
- Putting itself is a smooth, rocking motion of the shoulders without much involvement of the hands, but you will still have a dominant hand monitoring the face angle
- Make several 5-10 foot putts with each hand - the more accurate, consistent hand is dominant
- If you're right dominant, use the standard putting position
- If you're left dominant, putt left hand low to allow the left hand to monitor the putter face
- If you don't like left hand low, use a conventional grip but get proper left arm alignment, compensated with a little bit of axis tilt to give the left hand more control
