Losing Spine Angle

 This is a premium video!

It's not uncommon for golfers learning the rotary swing to lose their spine angle through impact. No matter how hard they work at it, they always end up coming out of the shot and struggle with making solid contact. With atleast half the golfers I work with, the problem is NOT technique, but a matter of fitness. I'm not talking about how fast you can run a mile, rather I am referring to your golf-specific fitness level.

Video Practice Points
  • Working at a computer for eight hours a day may be hurting your golf game
  • Sitting at a desk activates muscles in the front of the body, which become used to being in a contracted position
  • Other muscles, including the hip flexors needed to maintain spine angle, are rarely used
  • Leg lifts help strengthen these muscles - lie on your side and lift the upper leg into the air
  • Do some sets with the leg straight, some with the leg at a 90° angle to your body, and some at other angles, then repeat with the other leg
  • Make sure you are feeling the muscles activate in the back of the glutes, not the groin or front of the thigh
