Craig I'm getting some success with GOAT Code on longer clubs, but ball.

Hi Craig I'm getting some success with GOAT Code on longer clubs, but ball flight is very low with the Driver, as it was with the Axiom Power program late last year. Ball flight can be a bit low with the 5 wood but usually OK because of the higher loft. Still struggling with Driver consistency so have moved to a sort of 'one piece' downswing with it, but with the 5 wood I can get the throwing action much better and maybe 7 iron is getting there, but 3 wood not so good yet. Learning to protract the lead shoulder has made a big difference! I think I used to lock the shoulders down at set up in an effort to 'get in the box', but it was stopping me getting a full turn. The protraction is helping me to learn to push the club to the top (with momentum) with the lead side, keeping it in front of me for longer, then managing to transfer control to the right hand at the top for the downswing. That said I haven't got the widening the wrists trick at the top (I can do it a little but it falls apart with the ball there), but just what I'm doing with the revised grip is enhancing the throw. I have a question. For irons and wedges I'm sticking with lead side/Axiom as it allows for small, medium and three quarter swings which I need in my game, it also helps with chips and pitches. But in doing this I am retaining the GOAT takeaway i.e. pushing club with my lead side, protraction etc. This keeps the club in front of me and these shorter swings feel much more body driven. Is this OK? GOAT as I understand it is really only about full swing, and I want to keep progressing with that for my longer clubs. For full swing I find the trail side is now feeling more natural and I'm getting good ball striking and working towards a better impact position. Also as GOAT is driven more by width than rotation I feel it will be easier to maintain as I get older. Any tips on progressing from 5W to Driver with GOAT, or is it just a time and practice thing? Many Thanks!

Hello Diane. Using the refine your backswing technique for the takeaway in a lead side or trail side driven swing is perfectly fine. My concern is the switching back and forth between dominant arms. It is pretty important that you pick one side to "drive your car" because this can create confusion in the movement patterns. With the longer swings using the trail side (GOAT) pattern on the woods. Knowing your move you need hyper focus on the shallowing out portion. I would focus on the J Release but keep the transition feel im-particular in mind. You can use the Compression Drill for shorter trail based focused swings and do the same 1/2 3/4 swing length with GOAT just as a side note.
