What Zepp Golf measures
Zepp Golf's sensor attaches to your glove and uses an accelerometer and gyroscope to measure the motion of your lead wrist during the swing. From this it derives club head speed, swing tempo (ratio of backswing time to downswing time), backswing length, hip turn angle (estimated), and hand path shape. After each swing the data syncs to the Zepp app, where you can review trends and compare sessions.
The club speed data is genuinely useful if speed is a focus for you. Tempo ratio data can help identify if you are rushing the transition. These are legitimate metrics.
What Zepp cannot measure is your body. The sensor only knows what your lead wrist is doing. It cannot see whether your hips are sequencing correctly, whether your trail hip is staying deep in the backswing, whether your head is swaying forward, or whether your upper and lower body are separating properly at transition. These body mechanics are the root causes that determine whether your club can even reach the velocities you want — and Zepp has no visibility into any of them.
What GOATY sees that Zepp cannot
GOATY uses your phone camera to track 17 body keypoints at 30 frames per second during your actual swing. That includes your hips, shoulders, spine angle, head position, lead and trail arm structure, and wrist positions throughout the full motion from address to finish.
From this data, GOATY scores your swing on the GOAT model — a 0-100 scoring system calibrated against elite tour-level body mechanics. The score is broken into ENGINE (hip and pelvis mechanics), ANCHOR (postural stability, head control), and WHIP (arm sequencing and release). You get an overall GOAT score and component scores within seconds of completing a rep.
And then — this is the key difference — GOATY speaks a targeted coaching cue before your next swing. Not a data readout. A coaching instruction based on what your body just did and what the RSI system shows works for players at your skill tier.
Zepp tells you how fast you swung. GOATY coaches the mechanics that let elite players swing fast in the first place — and tells you what to fix on the next rep.

Club speed is a symptom. Body mechanics are the cause. A golfer with tight hip coil and proper sequencing will produce speed. A golfer compensating with arms and hands will cap out. Zepp can tell you your speed is low. It cannot tell you why, and it cannot coach you out of it.
GOATY works on the causal level. When the RSI system identifies that a specific cue — like a trail hip coil cue — produces measurable GOAT score improvement for players in the 50-65 range, that cue gets ranked higher for players in that tier. GOATY is not guessing what coaching language to use. It has verified outcome data across thousands of practice reps showing what actually moves the needle.
That is a fundamentally different kind of intelligence than a wrist sensor measuring swing tempo.
When Zepp Golf makes sense
If you are specifically working on club speed as a project — and you want quantitative feedback on whether your speed training is working — Zepp provides that data. Tempo training is also a legitimate use case: some golfers genuinely rush the transition, and seeing a tempo ratio number help make that concrete.
Where Zepp falls short is as a primary improvement tool. You can accumulate Zepp data for months and never understand why your speed is not improving, because the sensor cannot see the body mechanics limiting you. The data is real; the insight is shallow.
Frequently asked questions
What does Zepp Golf measure?
Zepp Golf uses a small sensor that attaches to your golf glove to measure club-side metrics: club head speed, tempo, backswing length, hip turn angle, and hand path. It captures data via accelerometer and gyroscope and displays aggregated stats in the Zepp app after each swing. The hardware costs $100+ and must be worn on your glove during every session.
Is Zepp Golf worth it?
Zepp Golf provides useful quantitative data on club speed, tempo, and swing plane. If you are working on a specific metric like club head speed or want to track tempo trends over time, it can be valuable. The limitation is that it requires hardware you have to purchase and wear, and it gives you data after the swing — not live coaching between reps. GOATY requires no hardware and coaches you live between every swing using camera-based body tracking.
Does Zepp Golf have AI coaching?
Zepp provides post-swing data summaries and some comparison features, but not real-time AI coaching between reps. GOATY watches your body mechanics live at 30fps through your phone camera, scores each swing on the GOAT model (0-100), and speaks a targeted voice cue within seconds. Zepp tells you what your sensor measured; GOATY tells you why and coaches you to fix it.
GOATY vs Zepp Golf — which is better?
They measure fundamentally different things. Zepp Golf measures club-side metrics — speed, tempo, backswing — using a wrist sensor. GOATY measures body mechanics — 17 keypoints tracking hip coil, shoulder sequencing, and postural control — using your phone camera. Zepp tells you how fast you are swinging; GOATY coaches the body mechanics that produce elite swing speeds. If you want body mechanics coaching with no hardware purchase, GOATY is the tool.
