Craig A practical question.

Hi Craig A practical question. I've been with RST since 2017 (completely new to golf) and in that time have followed the lead side instruction until the GOAT Code arrived. So I have built up a semblance of a lead side swing. However I really like the GOAT code because it covers the full game, from putting through to the full swing, and the clubface control has been transformative for my short game, I can now chip and pitch much more reliably, putting too has improved. And right arm only swings are now better than left arm only. But it's going to take some time to fully transition to a trail side swing. As expected just using the GOAT arm with a long club often sends the ball left, or I just get a poor strike. On odd occasions I can feel it working better, but it's not reliable enough to play. Can you give some advice on how best to move forward? In a couple of recent matches I've just reverted to my old swing (lead side with a bit of right arm throw, plus a bit of axis tilt but keeping club in front of me) for the long shots and switched to the GOAT grip and arm for the shorter stuff that I've practised and it seems to work fine. I'm also trying to maintain focus on using my core to swing the club and have been managing that feeling with my 7 iron and 5W with good results. I had been concerned that mixing the two sides (within a single hole!) might cause both to fail, but not so. The plan is that as I progress through the GOAT code I will reach the point where the trailside is good enough to use for everything. But until I get there I'll have to use lead side (with core focus) for full swings and GOAT code for short game. Is that OK? Thanks ahead Diane

Hello Diane. Its hard to make a swing change while playing golf and especially if changing dominant sides. Your plan isn't that far fetched. I can swing lead or trail side, but they do require different parameters. No reason since you have the time and more comfortable with the short game to not stay with GOAT while playing. What I would do is not think too much about arm dominance in your full swing that much until you are able to make high reps with the trail side and just focus on sequence. Let the arms kind of just be the arms and slowly start blending in some of your trail side movement patterns that are controlled more by the core into the fuller swing on the course.
