Craig, Happy New Year.

Hello Craig, Happy New Year. One of my Goals is to hit the ball much further. With my driver over or around 320 yards carry. Chuck said the baseball motion is close to the Golf swing, so I looked at baseball speed exercises. The video said that we don't need to train super heavy all the time. Getting massive and not training at high speed isn't going to be best for baseball/ golf specific training. So we should focus on higher speed movements and a nice transfer of relative strength. This makes a lot of sense, so I wanted to incorporate it into my training program. I rep push-ups and pull-ups 5 days a week in the morning, and do static calisthenics exercises in the evening on these days. Based on my current training, how often would you advise me to incorporate high-speed training? Especially from the standpoint that my goal isn't absolutely getting better at calisthenics, but getting speed, transferring to golf. Another point is, should I look for baseball bat swing speed or throwing exercises? Also, you once told me that I should look at the back of the Golf ball when hitting it. Does this also apply to putting? I heard a YouTube trainer say, to Look at a single dimple at the top of the ball. He thinks he looks threw the ball and onto the ground underneath to keep his head still. Is this good advice or overly detail-oriented? Best wishes, Jayden

Hello Jayden. Thank You and Happy New Year as well. Consistent 320 carry requires a very high CHS. Most of my speed players train for speed like the weight room. About 2/3 times a week because they need to save energy in reserve. You have training days then max out days so to speak where you test your limits. You are going to need to be in the mid to low 120's defending on AOA, launch etc. Golf does have some similar components to baseball but not exact to golf. Some players use speed sticks, heavy clubs, impact bags, and assortment of tools. I've never been someone to have that much focus on the ball so you would need to ask someone else. I don't think that is overly detailed but to me it's all a blur. All in all you need to train ballistic movements and high speed reps. Keep making the swing efficient and 2/3 days where you training specific movements to generate higher speeds until it becomes the norm like lifting weights.
