confusing instruction

I'm a little confused and don't know how to proceed. I do a combination of live instruction and GOATY swing analysis and I seem to be getting conflicting information. During the swing analysis GOATY is always telling me that I need to get over to my lead side earlier in the backswing (like when the backswing is 1/2 way) but when I do that during the Live Lesson, I hear that I'm not loading my trail side long enough. This seems to be contradictory or am I missing some nuance?

Hello Steven. I asked GOATY first to see if it was a techincal issue. Here are his thoughts (we can work from here): You’re not missing the nuance—the two messages may be using “lead side” and “trail side” to describe different things. In the backswing, your lead hip should sink down and in toward your trail hip, which creates the feeling of loading the trail side; at the same time, the pelvis can begin drifting toward the target before the backswing finishes. That is not “getting over the lead side” by pushing toward the target—it’s the lead hip beginning its early work while the coil is still completing. So the correct picture is: the lead hip loads down and in, the belt line continues building depth toward the trail side, and the pelvis starts moving targetward before the top without dumping the load early. If GOATY is literally asking you to slide your whole body toward the target halfway back, that wording needs clarification, because the population data shows that backswing sway and late loading are common; we don’t fix one by creating the other. For your next rep, use one feel: as the club moves halfway back, feel your lead hip sink down and in while your belt line continues loading away from the target. The targetward movement should arrive as a subtle early pull—not a conscious shove. If you can share the exact GOATY analysis wording or screenshots from both messages, I can tell you whether they’re actually measuring different phases or whether one cue is simply being translated poorly.
