Everyone I only just got back to golf this last week as UK lockdown eased.

Hi everyone I only just got back to golf this last week as UK lockdown eased. First round 9 hole round was a struggle but I played much better in second round. I've also been doing some further experimenting in the garden. It took me a while to progress through Dead Drill 1-3 last year and I think Axiom would have helped enormously as it provides the linking movement for 1-3 and into 4 (lead arm) which should really speed progression through DD 1-4 for most people. My own struggle has been that as soon as I pick up a club I lost the movement. Axiom has let me shallow the club at last, but last week I was struggling again to do it with the club and real balls, on the course. It was like something was stopping me, so I thought I would share this in case it is helpful to others. First of all, with a club, I realised I was starting to squat during the backswing, rather than at the top of Backswing and into Transition. It is the squat movement that moves your weight into your heels (at 6 o'clock), but if you squat early, you squat with the weight mid-foot, so never quite make it around the MGR, in fact Craig put his finger on it when he told me to get deeper into transition and I realised I couldn't, because I had bent the trail leg too early, so there was no more squat left! Secondly I found that if I don't get a clean shoulder pivot (i.e. pointing left shoulder down at the ball), and keeping right arm straight for as long as possible then it makes it very difficult to get the clockwise movement of the arms at the top (probably not helped by limited shoulder flexibility). Putting all three faults together, with the momentum of the club, is where my difficulties lie, and I think these three things are what made the Dead Drill fail once I added the weight and momentum of the club. The shoulder pivot and keeping right arm straight are relatively easy to fix as they happen very early on and I am now working on using Axiom to drive the squat to happen at the right time, and to exaggerate the arms a bit more clockwise too. I will keep you posted!
