My question is about the release.

My question is about the release. In the past, I have had problems with over-hooking the ball. To get more control, I changed to a body finish with little arm rotation after impact. The benefit is that it does away with release timing issues that I seemed to not be able to get right in the past. The body swing finish has been working in terms of straightening out my shots but I do understand that I may be leaving swing speed on the table. I am going to give the RST release technique a try in the next few days but am afraid that I am going to end up experiencing my previous over-hooking problem and related inconsistency all over again. Any thoughts on what I should do this time to get it right?

Hi Mike, A few things to think of when taking on our release drills again... 1. The positions going back are just as important as the positions at impact and finish. A lot of students get the club too far inside and too much rotation of the wrists going back, thus leading to a higher rate of rotation on a flatter plane coming through, which will result in a hook. 2. Keep things simple and light through the hands. 3. Post videos of your baseline movements for us to take a look at to make sure things look good before trying to hit shots. Good luck. Ct
Same here. I finally got rid of my hooks this year (too much inside-out) and this move (roll realease) which I try this morning on the range seems to bring it back. One thing that it seem to help me is to get rid of my close face on my backswing (and get it toe-up by the time my club is parallel to the ground). I beleive somehow that the roll release will happen by itself if I able to toe it up in my backswing. Will see as I’m just starting this program. Luc
