During backswing, when I rotate my left forearm clockwise to get my left wrist.

During backswing, when I rotate my left forearm clockwise to get my left wrist flat at the top of backswing and help in shallowing my swing, my left shoulder lifts and gets tight, obstructs the smoothness of my backswing and transition, and feels like I'm creating an opportunity for an injury. Any tips on how to avoid the lifting of and tightness in my left shoulder during this move? (BTW: when I don't rotate forearm and I try to shallow my swing, I chunk the ball--more than usual.) Thanks.

Hello Jeren. There is some lead shoulder push in the backswing. But, it sounds like the arm is crossing the chest/center line too much. You need to decrease the tension and keep it more in front of the chest. Take a look at Proper Muscle Activation and Winter Golf Training Program - Backswing Video.
