The DEAD Drill is a simple way to understand how the best ball strikers move.

the DEAD Drill is a simple way to understand how the best ball strikers move their bodies to hit the ball far while swinging under control. Few do it better than Tiger and this unusual angle will give you a unique glimpse into these simple, yet dynamic movements.

Great video! I've been working with Craig , focusing a lot on the lower body. My tendencies have been pushing off the right side losing my tush line very early. No playing here in the Philadelphia area, which leaves plenty of time focusing on the DEAD drill and the clam shell drill. Thanks for the great information!!
Thanks for this examination of Tiger’s sequencing and speed of his lower body. I’m curious, though, if you have ever examined what drives the swing of player learning Rotary Swing? As most probably know you have the video entitled something like, “The Legs Drive the Swing.” You also came out with the Dead Drill that will teach everyone the proper movements. And, most recently your Live Lessons and a few posts (e.g., encouraging Eric T) have had the focus of encouraging folks to add some speed to their movements. I love all of those but what I’m trying to ascertain is re: drive is from a mental perspective. Specifically, if it’s possible to forget about the biomechanics of the swing for a moment are there any, do you foresee any, or have you maybe seen any differences in someone trying to add speed by focusing on the movement of the hips/legs as the sole focus of what drives the swing versus someone who is focusing on the movement of the arms as the driver of the swing? In either case, one might have to assume the other body part behaves as intended but merely goes along for the ride (ie, the arms if the hips are the focus or the hips if the arms are the focus). I ask because I’ve watched countless videos and read countless posts of many members, including myself, who continue to struggle with swings that revert to bad habits when they add speed. Now certainly, some of those struggles (including mine) are due in part to not quite fully having the new neural pathways that would allow us to perfectly perform the new movements correctly. But, might some of it also have to do with focusing on moving the wrong body part to achieve that speed? For example, when this “what’s the focus of the swing” hypothesis occurred to me I set out on my own little experiment which involved assessing how I timed my swing. For over 25 years my swing has been timed by the location of my upper body and arms. And although I’ve played quite well at times it was never as consistent as I wanted it to be, nor was I as long, nor as injury free (which of course led me to you). What would happen to my swing if I switched up timing my swing with my upper body and, instead, focused on my lower body? For example, what would happen to my overall swing if I focused solely on moving my lower body properly and at speed while letting my upper body merely come along for the ride? Well lo and behold I stopped swinging long, I dropped the club inside nicely from the top, and that magical effortless power came…all because I focused on properly timing my lower body rather than my upper body. I kinda like that! This got me to wondering if others might be helped by changing the focus of what body part needs to move at faster tempo to achieve speed? Maybe so. Maybe I’m just a small subset of members who this might help. But, I wanted to share something that worked for me in that all it required was a change of mental focus to make the swing and time the swing with my lower body rather than my upper body.
This video came at a perfect time! I just got a review back from Chris and I need to work on lateral shift and getting my weight back over to my lead side. Nice to see a perfect example of how this is done. Going to start working on massive counter-rotation from my trail foot ASAP ????
Thank you Chuck Awesome video/explanation
I cannot do the deadman drill and be consistent. Wish I had the ability to do it
Chuck I would love to be one of your trial participants. If you are looking for a 63 year old nine handicap female, I’m your gal.
