I watched the boot camp today led by Chuck.

I watched the boot camp today led by Chuck. He was showing the compression drill. He started by doing the clock rotation stuff with the foot and club. It looked like what we have been drilling on for the last week. When he went to hit the ball, it looked like it was just a back and forth movement. An excellent swing, no doubt but I assumed he was going to exaggerate the notion of “one movement” where the swing is not back and forth but rather a loop akin to a partial figure-8. I know Craig was talking about “tightening the loop” in a later session but we haven’t gotten there yet. I’m assuming we still want to be exaggerating the movement. To me, that means swing like Matt Wolff or Jim Furyk just so you can get the feel of what’s it’s like to be able to flatten the plane as you come into the ball. Granted, he did say you could error on the side of a Matthew Wolff swing but that’s different than it being the goal in the early stages. He also said his idea of what a rotary swing and what my question implied were entirely different. I expected him to then clarify what his idea was but he left it at that. I think part of the struggle is there are lots of assumptions built in about how much of the Rotary Golf material people have seen in the past. For me, the answer is zero. Doing the clock drills was awesome and it gave me the feeling of what flattening was like coming into the ball. After watching Chuck demonstrate hitting the ball, I now don’t get the connection. As I alluded to in one of my follow-up questions, it might be because he has “tightened the loop” but I’m only speculating because we have not covered that yet.

Hi Jim, Great question here. When starting the compression drill, use the pdf images for the compression drill to mirror for hip high to hip high swings as far as the upper body movements are concerned. Then, while progressing into longer swings, you can use the larger circles for now until we tighten things down on Saturday. Just make sure your delivery from hip high to hip high looks the same when adding in more movement, otherwise, wait until Saturday, let us help you tighten the ship down and then revisit the compression drills and adding progression as demonstrated last night. Hope that helps! Ct
