I’m an ex football player and I also lift weights daily.

Hello, I’m an ex football player and I also lift weights daily. I’m not able to get a good straight arm or drop the club parallel at the top of my swing, or even get great rotation without my head moving. I wonder is this normal. And why do we need a steady head in the backswing just curious????

Hello Walt. Check your hip rotation and trail arm bend to keep lead arm straighter going back. It is okay for the head to move an inch - inch and a half going back. Excessive movement hurts the chances of sweet spot strike, but has more effect on the spine. Leading to excessive axis tilt, secondary axis tilt and lateral motion in the downswing. The plane and lag will tend to have many variables.
