I was watching the many roadshow lessons and have a queston.

Hello, I was watching the many roadshow lessons and have a queston. Much talk about the importance of loading up the right glute on the backswing. But then on the downswing we're supposed to pull from the left obliques, hip, glute. So then why load up the right glute if we're not going to use it to fire on the downswing? Thank you, love the website and all the help!

Hello James. Happy to hear you are loving the website. There are a multitude of reasons for loading the trail glute. Here are some of the bigger points. Maintain Tush Line - If you don't engage the trail glute in the backswing you will have a difficult time re-engaging the glute to shy away from early extension coming down. Facilitate rotation - Loading the trail glute and coiling correctly will allow you to rotate for a full turn. Sequencing - When you load in the backswing the body will naturally want to unwind in the downswing. Think like a pitcher. If a pitcher just stayed on their lead leg the natural response from the body wouldn't be to make a dynamic weight shift and post to generate speed. I do. By loading up the right glut etc. the right side gets wound up like a spring so that when you pressure the left glut etc. and post up the spring unloads creating more acceleration than otherwise dropping you into the slot for the right arm throw at the elbow. Works for me and I am 80 outdriving most of my peers.
James, it's not that you don't use the right glute to help transfer pressure, you do. It's that most way over do it and do it incorrectly, so I emphasize the left in a lot of videos to help golfers develop a balance of the two sides as most don't realize when they're driving too hard off the trail side.
