Craig, watched you second video in phase 2, lots of things to learn again for me!

Hi Craig, watched you second video in phase 2, lots of things to learn again for me! Next question is something I would like to hear your vision on. In golf teaching/coaching I feel that worldwide the overall vision, at least in PGA and WGTF, is that potential every golfer can be a scratch golfer. This is sometimes also used as a marketing tool. If you compare this with other (physical) sports there is much more differentiation in what players can achieve in relation to their talent/potential and the training they putt into their sport. In those other sports coaches make training programs for specific (reachable) goals, like running/swimming a certain distance in a certain time. How do you approach this with your students? Do you tell them , after you worked with them for a time that they have the potential to become a bogey player, or a good average player and probably never will be a single handicaper or scratch player? If I relate this to my experience in C4 phase 4, done 110 series now in phase 4, I notice that I reach a level were I do not see improvement anymore and I get in a kind of cirkel where certain small details keep coming back and need addressing to keep them from getting worse (my talent for ball sports has always be limited) . Also there is a limit in getting more distance with the 7 iron, simply because my swingspeed is not getting higher anymore (for sure Rotary concept improved my SS in last years). For my age, 72, this is what every person will have to go through and because of that you will not reach distances you need to play long courses. Of course you can adjust this by using the right tee to compensate a little. Are there option to keep making progress? Thanks for helping! Marcel

Hello Marcel. This is a pretty loaded question. Tough to explain because I let a lot of my eyes and conversation with the student dictate the road map in my head. The way I look at it is the golf swing is a trained movement pattern. No different than any motion you learn in life. Therefore, this can be changed and improved over time with proper training. I do set goals with my students depending on what they want. Some want lower scores, more distance, greater consistency, etc. I will set goals and checkpoints. For ex: let's run a mile first. Get you moving, increase efficiency and consistent time. Then shoot for two mile run. As we age it is tougher to improve. Lack of strength, time, and flexibility. But, you keep setting small goals. All the components add up in the swing to produce a quality round. In my experience, the level you can reach score wise is up to the student. The swing can only do so much. You have to have a great short game, proper mental attitude, play the game (not swing), etc. It's crazy how many times without changing a student's swing and them letting me caddy/choose shot-club for the day how many strokes off their round they shave.
