Everyone, I'm Mac, I'm a new subscriber and a novice golfer that started this spring.

Hello Everyone, I'm Mac, I'm a new subscriber and a novice golfer that started this spring. I'm working through the intro videos but I've got a little question eating at my brain and I keep getting conflicting information everywhere I look and I'm trying to get this nailed down before a start building motor patterns. Naturally I would play baseball, hocky, lacrosse etc. LEFT-HANDED if I tried to do these right handed the results would be significantly worse. To make things more complicated I do several other hand/eye coordination tasks RIGHT-HANDED: all forms of throwing, using a hammer, casting a fishing rod (to name a few) Since I started in April 2023 I have been trying to play right-handed as the clubs someone gave are right-handed. Should I be attempting to learn golf left-handed?? I have heard things like: "just do what feels natural" and "it doesn't matter since your new anyway" and "your wrist release better on your non dominant side." I have access to left-handed irons to try but to be honest golf feels awkward on both sides at this stage of experience level. Again, a "two handed" swing of almost any kind feels more familiar left-handed but I suspect that is from baseball and street hockey as a kid. I know that golf is not baseball. How do I decide??? Any wisdom appreciated thanks for your time.

Hello Mac. Being as ambidextrous as you are this will be a little bit of a conundrum. Trial and error is one way. Hit some shots lead and/or trail hand only. This way you can get the feel for whichever side is more dominant. I think a better way is which hand do you want to do the releasing with (Left vs Right Video). I am right handed but left side controlled golf swing. It is easier for me to use my lead arm for control and trail for power. Things that you do with throwing/hammer/power seem to be your right arm. Hockey stick, etc seem to be better controlled by your left hand. From your notes: I would say (play right handed). Your left and seems to be more a controlling tool as your right is good at adding power. It is much easier to train the control side versus going back and teaching kinematic sequence to generate power from a non-dominant arm.
