Guys. I was just curious where RST stands on the idea of playing a stock.

Hi guys. I was just curious where RST stands on the idea of playing a stock fade or draw as opposed to just trying to square everything up as your stock shot. Let's assume there is no dogleg, hazards, or obvious risk/reward to shaping it on a given shot. Is there data that shows a tighter dispersion for any specific shape? I know it seems like every pro advocates playing a draw or fade, but I don't find their explanations very convincing. If the dispersion is the same, why does a "two way miss" become so disastrous? Or is it that such hazard-free shots are so rare that my scenario isn't practical? Thanks!

Hello Matthew. I don't have any data on the stock fade/draw on which is the most common/preferred. Lead side releasers tend to be more on the draw side and trail side pushers like the fade. Not always the case though (I'm lead side and prefer fade). The two way miss can be brutal because players are swinging at high speeds. If you don't hit the shot perfect you need to know what the miss will be. Golfers don't always hit it as cleanly as it may appear. If I aim to hit a soft draw and block it 20 yards right or vice versa it will be impossible to score. But, if you know your miss tends to favor one side you can always aim to buy yourself some breathing room if you aren't particularly comfortable with the given hole/shot.
