I came across RS a few years back when I was suffering from lower back pain.

I came across RS a few years back when I was suffering from lower back pain from golf and everything in the DEAD drill made perfect sense. I was able to play pain free and even knocked a few strokes off the handicap! Recently I started experimenting with the right side dominated (GOAT) swing and after one practice session blew out my lower back and haven't played since. I revisited the video "How to Safely Add Speed to Your DEAD Drill and Reduce Side Bend" (from about 8"50 onwards) and it's pretty obvious what has happened. Can you advise whether people with lower back issues should avoid right side dominant swing movements completely or is there a way to do it safely and not increase side bend which leads to spine injury?

If done correctly neither pattern will cause back issues. There is a 99.99999% chance that what you think you’re doing and what you’re actually doing are not one in the same. You need to have someone look at your swing before you injure yourself.
