Golf and the Thoracic Spine Series Intro

Golfers get the majority of their upper body rotation from the thoracic spine. In this new video series, we show you how to increase the flexibility in this area for a bigger turn and more distance off the tee.


Hey guys, RST instructor Damian Taglione here to talk about the thoracic spine series.

Big important stuff here, I get a lot of questions about this.

How do I improve my posture? How do I improve my affective rotation? And the big thing is your scapula and your thoracic spine.

So we really want to have the ability for those scapula's floating kind of wings here to be able to slide into the middle of the spine.

So we can effectively get rotation by using our obliques and not by rotating here with the chest and the upper body and getting the tension there.

We want to be able to maintain good position, Shoulder blades down and then tap into these guys, but for us to do that, we need those shoulder blades to slide in.

So following this video we're going to have three additional videos.

The first one is going to be a smash technique where we're breaking up muscle adhesions and allowing that muscle to kind of slide and contract the way it's supposed to.

The second one is going to be a lengthening exercise, which we're going to use to just kind of open up and lengthen those muscles.

And the third is going to be a strengthening exercise.

All pretty basic, all pretty easy to do at home.

A couple of things that you're going to need is either a foam roller.

Or if you want to get more kind of aggressive.

With the thoracic spine smash technique, you're going to need a lacrosse ball or a tennis ball would be a good starting point for these.
