Chuck, Just wanted to tell you how great the seminar was yesterday.

Chuck, Just wanted to tell you how great the seminar was yesterday. From the Q & A, it looks like it will take some time for people to give up on mechanics and gravitate to feel ????. But I have to tell you, forgetting about the mechanics and have a feeling to work on has change me dramatically. I was always a great natural athlete and always depended on how things felt to get it right. Never could figure that out about golf, until now! Can't thank you enough. But I have 1 more feeling I need to find. Grip pressure and how to hold the club is a mystery to me. And just like your Ernie vs Tiger, Left vs Right video, I present Sam Snead vs Ben Hogan: "Sam Snead said to grip the club like you would hold a baby bird. And then Ben Hogan said: “what Sam Snead didn't tell you is that the baby bird is a hawk.” What about some research on grip pressure and how to develop the feel to go along with the clockwise merry-go-round? Or at least point me in the general direction of what I should be going for. I would happily book a lesson with you or Craig to talk this thing out. Looking forward to hearing back. Cheers, Fran Horneff

Hi Francis, I'm glad you enjoyed the webinar! The grip pressure study I was involved with back in the late 2000's showed that the grip pressure changes radically throughout the swing in low handicap players. There are two large and obvious peaks in pressure during both the transition and just before the release that near 80% maximum grip pressure. In other words, even Slammin' Sammy didn't always hold it like a bird, but his feeling was such. Everyone that we measured felt that they held the club pretty lightly throughout and they were all shocked when they saw how tightly they squeezed the club during the swing. Of course, you shouldn't start out gripping the club so soft you can't control it, but it should be soft enough to not create a ton of tension. I never think about grip pressure personally, I simply hold the club in a way that feels like I have control but that I can also move fast.
