Coach Hopkins - I am having BIG problems trying to do the DEAD #2 (transition).

Coach Hopkins - I am having BIG problems trying to do the DEAD #2 (transition) drill to "squat to square." I cannot seem to separate my hips from my shoulders - as soon as I start turning the hips, the shoulders just want to turn with them. I have 25+ years of bad muscle memory built up there. In order to keep that 'shirt logo' still visible from down the line when the hips are square, I have to feel like I am *actively* turning the shoulders in the *opposite* direction. So it feels like the upper and lower halves of my body are fighting each other. The result is I can't do the squat to square move even when I try to do it super slow! Any tips or videos I can look at to figure out how to separate lower and upper body and be able to turn the hips while keeping my back to the target (with the shoulders not turning so much)?

Hey Kevin, It sounds like you are actively rotating your shoulders on your backswing, thus loading them up. That would make it difficult to gain the separation needed in the transition. Take a look at the GOAT theory on how the hips load in the backswing.
