As we get older, good posture is more difficult. How important is good posture to the swing? Is it mostly for power or more for direction? I feel is has more to do with direction accuracy.
Craig, during the webinar please discuss arm speed as it relates to hand speed. I understand Chuck emphasizes hand speed and not “using” the arms to throw the club, so help me understand stand how fast the arms (trail arm in particular) should be going, how to get properly get the arms moving at the correct speed and ultimately the release and throw at max hand speed. Thanks.
Craig, discuss Hand Path/Swing Path, In to out sequence, show in slow motion DTL how to throw with the middle finger, the bicep curl and how trail shoulder drops while right knee kicks in. What is the sequence of events and which work together? What is the clock position at top of swing, starting downswing, through impact (in to out) path and up or over to the left? Thanks.
Is wrist set an active or passive part of the golf swing? What’s the key to having supple wrists while still having control of the club face?
Craig…may I add another question to the agenda for tonight? I would like some clarification on lateral movement and how it works in a trail-side pattern. I know there has to be lateral movement, but I dont quite understand how you can have lateral movement AND the ideas of pivoting off the trail foot and staying back behind the ball, all at the same time. If you could demystify this tonight, I would be grateful!
Hi Craig Supination - exactly when do we do this move? I think it has to be at the very end of the back swing when the club has stopped moving momentarily, otherwise you're trying to steer the club while it still has momentum. I need to get this bit built in as long club shots are tending to go left, because supination is not being initiated properly/at the right time. What does the lead wrist have to do to support the trail wrist that is supinating? Also great that the GOAT programme covers short game and pitching as well as the full swing - although having some difficulties taking the GOAT putting to the course (it's fighting with my earlier putting stroke). Any tips? I expect it's just a case of keeping at it. On the plus side it's drastically improved my chipping and pitching, and anything involving a part swing - due to club head staying square throughout. Thanks Diane
Craig, How do you rate in order of importance what all the hands should be doing in the golf swing? Also, how do the arms relate to that?
how do I log onto tonights video
Great job tonight, Craig. Love the live lessons
Hi, This may have been covered in a video I haven't seen yet so ignore if that's the case. I'm pretty diligent in warming up before a round. I start with small sand wedges and work my way through the irons and onto the woods and then pitching and finishing off with putting. Thinking about the GOAT code program would it make more sense to reverse that sequence and start with the putter and working through chipping, pitching etc through to the driver? I can see there could be an advantage in re-enforcing the focus on the trail hand, particularly in the putting and chipping warm ups.
Will jumbo grips effect my speed, specifically with my driver?
When I click the training link I get messages saying site can’t be reached or site is unsafe. Any suggestions?
Craig, need to understand the release better. I hear you say that you snap the wrists and I understand that this happens automatically as you keep the right wrist in supination (right handed golfer). Just how far do you keep the trial wrist in supination? Can you show this? Is it like your driving the butt of the club down the line leading your trial little finger curled as far as possible and then it automatically "snaps"? Which drill should I focus on to get this to happen or do I have this all wrong?
May 14th Q & A Will you please talk generally about lateral movement (in downswing)? And then specifically, how does it compare/relate to other movements, such as the pivot? Is it synonymous with weight-shift? Also, does it relatively apply to every swing, including the putt? Thanks
Hey Craig, Could you talk about hand and arm positions from the end of the takeaway to the top of backswing? Touched on this a bit in unlimited reviews, but was hoping for more detail and more of what you feel. Specifically, how much elevation and movement away from center do you feel and how do you keep your trail arm from getting disconnected. Or, if you do feel a disconnect at the top, how do you reconnect in the downswing without pushing from the top. Which is obviously a death move. I’m trying to understand the feel of controlling the arms without having them take over and killing the swing. Hope that makes sense.
So, after listening to the entire Goat Series, I set off to the driving range, yesterday and before starting with the putter drills, I decided to hit a bucket of balls, primarily irons (weakest part of my game) just to experiment with the notion of the importance of the release as demonstrated in the Venkatesh Full Lesson video. I have been enthralled with how focusing the release allowed all of the positions to happen naturally. I took out my Alignment stick and swooshed it a number of times, getting the feeling of snapping the wrists, then I took my 9 iron, turned it around and repeated the release and finally, turning the club around and using the weight to try and get a similar release. What I found out quickly, was I had to relax my shoulders and arms more to do the latter. Finally, the very first 9 iron I hit, simply focus on releasing the swing at the ball, I crushed the ball. I have never hit a 9 iron that far and straight! I repeated this several times and I continued to find that I needed to relax my arms and shoulders each time or I would have a mishit. I did this with the 8, 7, and 6 iron. I would crush the ball and really felt compression consistently. That is the GREAT NEWS! Now for the bad, I began to pull the ball, or damn near shank it to the right. I did not film myself (as this was just an experiment before I started the putting drill) but I was so excited to be able to crush the ball that I could not stop. I know shame on me! Nevertheless, when I began to analyze the mishits, I found myself out of rhythm, trying to use my arms and shoulders too much or perhaps some tension. Here is my question. There seemed to be considerable excitement from Chuck from the Venkatesh video that this was the NIRVANA! If everyone just focused on the release, that is all that mattered. Unfortunately, the videos in this program are not dated and I do not know when the next series of videos came out after the Venkatesh video? Why wasn't this epiphany pursued? If it was, which videos followed? Was this the resulting GOAT program? What I am looking for is now that I feel and understand the beauty of focusing solely on the release, how can I find a way to make it more consistent and work every swing. I am addicted to that feel and watching that ball soar! I then watch videos of how to move the hips properly (lesson with Alton) or the video on how to sequence the swing of spine extension, not flexion, etc and I say to myself, why am I watching these videos if the Nirvana was discovered with a focus on the release? I guess what I am saying is that it would be nice to date these videos to know what followed what. I am sure all of the videos are useful, but I like Chuck want to cut to the chase and find the one thing that works like the Venkatesh video. What videos followed this video? I am not a doubter of going through the putting, chipping, pitch etc. series and understanding how the right hand controls the entire swing, but It appeared that focusing only on the release was THE ANSWER! Sorry for being long winded, but I am frustrated!
Please cover your thoughts on the terminology of "throwing from the top" and how that relates to "pulling from the lead side"...in the downswing. Is there any pull from the lead side in a throwing motion, or is that only for a lead side dominate swing? Thank you.
Thanks for the live session - they're very useful. Here's my question, concerning the move from golf swing to playing golf on the course. It is my understanding that there are 7 impact laws that affect ball flight Ground contact, where is the low point of the swing relative to ball position Face Contact - where on the face am I making contact Club face direction Club speed Swing path Angle of attack Dynamic loft GOAT code focuses on several of these directly (face direction, club speed, swing path). Can you comment on the others? For example, when hitting from the rough we might need to change angle of attack. What about uphill, side hill and downhill lies that require other adjustments? Jim PS - I might not make the live session but will be reviewing the recording afterwards.
Hi Craig, please demonstrate the “ J Release” of the hands/wrists including how to set them during the takeaway and/or backswing and properly release them though the downswing (when these happen and how to initiate these moves). Also how the “conveyor belt” move/feeling plays into the J Release. Thanks.
Can you please go over the "squish the bug" timing and mechanics in detail? Thanks!
Hi Craig. I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post this, but in the May 14 webinar, could you demonstrate the difference between weight shift and pressure shift? Maybe you have already covered that. Anyway, I really appreciate these sessions. I need to see stuff to help fill in what the words are trying to say.
Hi Craig, Can you explain wrist cocking that Chuck introduced in the pitching videos up to full swing for irons and Driver? Graham
Would like clarification on where the wrist throw starts for full shots. Is it once I feel the GDP and club is around parallel on downswing or much earlier. Also would like to see how to better take way club for pitch shots and short wedges without “rolling club open” but also not leaving it super shut by having trail hand start to feel like it’s pushing it closed.
It would be great if you could discuss where exactly the shaft of the putter should point, for instance, more to the belt or even up to the belly button. In addition, I would love to know how to choose the correct length of a putter. Best wishes, Jayden.
Would like to better understand how u can squish to bug but not spin out right hip and push of trail side. I understand the feel of left hip back and up but feel right hip end position is similar in both feels
I haven’t received a link to tonight’s Q & A as of yet. Only email reminders of it.
When the rotation part (3rd and last part) of the throw release (and also for a snap release?) is compared to turning a doorknob - is the turning direction to the L or the R?
Hi Craig, is it an option to start the swing from GDP to create more feel where the GDP exactly is (reverse engineering). If so: can you show it on camera. First shorter swings and later on full swings? Question 2: Does the 2 inch hand drill for the backswing fits in the goat theorie? I like the drill, but don't know if it fits in goat code. Thank you, love your sessions.
Unforunately it is completely natural to want to use muscle power from our arms in the golf swing. Over the years this becomes a bad habit that it is difficult to come out of. It more often than not results in OTT and slicing. It seems like the solution is somehow to stop using our arms. But we can't chop them off. So we must keep on using them, but very differently than before. How? Maybe you can talk about this in a webinar?
Craig. Great video series. I love your hands on instruction. My question is this for the May 28 program. I tend to pull my longer irons and shank my short irons chip shots I believe this is caused by a faulty lead elbow. Could you visually explain the function of the lead elbow especially just prior to impact? Thanks
No matter what I do. Unless I do a large hip turn almost feels like a reverse pivot. I get stuck on downswing. Any tips on takeaway or sequencing that are coming flaws ?
The video of Chuck throwing the medicine ball down the line, kind of threw me off in terms of weight shift. When I tried to feel like I threw a medicine ball down the line when I swing the club, I find excessive lateral movement and a little bit of early extension versus when I feel like I shot my left hip back and rotate.
Hi Craig- please talk about the importance of Chuck’s video counter torque in right and left feet. The one where he uses the towel to demonstrate torque. And also the video where Zack Johnson doesn’t move his hips “backward” like Rahm and others. Many thanks!
Question for June 11 hang out from VJ Pappas -- Craig, forgive me if I missed you covering this point, but it's a fundamental conundrum for me -- It involves the sequencing of clearing the hips. I really don't understand how clearing the hips makes room for the arm/hand/club unit. If the trail elbow is pronated and attached to the hip, wouldn't clearing the hips take place simultaneously to the turn. I don't see any new space for the arms like when I consciously turn then drop into the hitting area. This is what I see in Chuck's heavy bag punch --the hips don't go first, followed by the uppercut -- but they are connected..
Hi Graig, First Thanks for doing these session, that are great. I have a Rapsodo launch monitor, They just added club path and attach angle. Can you explain the importance of the club path and attach angle and the suggested values.
Hello Craig, Was wondering if you could describe what you feel right before and during transition. I'm not sure that is something easily described, but hope you can try to share. Do you feel the weight of the club starting to drop, is your body starting to rotate or is there a feeling of just letting gravity get your downswing started. Do you feel that it's an actual "down" swing or more of a "fall and then release" swing. Do you feel that you give up control of the swing and then get it back to release properly. I feel that from the takeaway to impact that I'm forcing a swing and I'm loosing a lot of speed doing it. I think that if you could explain what you feel, I might better understand where I'm going wrong. Hopefully, this makes sense.
I am struggling with really defining the wrist set on the chips, and pitch shots. I maintain the same position with my hands for both of these shots (after a slight forward press); however Chuck mentions an early set at the top of the backswing for these. Can you really define this? Or show it really, and discuss the types of wrist motion in detail?
Thank you for all your time! This was very helpful. You mentioned 1/2 off live lessons, was that the online or in person lessons or both?
Hi Craig, I understand that the trail-hand dominant swing requires a firmer grip, but I'd love some elaboration on what specifically should still feel loose and relaxed (e.g. shoulders, elbows). The balance between intentionally controlling the club face and maintaining a smooth, athletic feel is one of the more challenging parts to me. Thanks, Will
Hey Craig- thanks for your time and help on the webinar. You mentioned something about not needing “taking a divot” and how Tiger sometimes doesn’t. I’ve gotten feed back that I’m “picking” the ball instead of “hitting down” and striking the turf. Can you elaborate? Posting something that Adam Young just put on social media about ball striking

Hi Craig, When you are working on your own golf swing, wither it’s a major change or just trying to make an improvement, how do you go about practicing to get the most out of it? What advice would you give to someone working on their swing on how to go about practicing? Also, what is your advice for taking it from the range to the course?
Hey Craig, from unlimited, I’m working on training the lead arm and trail arm separately and then using both by blending the feels. Do you have any tips or progressions for all three. Lead arm is pretty rough so I’m starting very small, but even with small swings, impact is a mystery.
Hello Craig I have 3 questions: 1. You said you used to be trail side and that was before rotary swing. What differences are there in what you were taught then and how rotary swing teaches trail side now out of curiosity? 2. On the fast Eddie video Chuck did where he talks about feeling like he throws the club head back towards the camera it looks like he also uses his arms to do that and not just his wrist. Is that supposed to be done with just the wrists? 3. When you want to add more speed or step on one in a trail side pattern and are not so much the squish the bug release how do you add speed without not getting into GDP or passing through it you could say? Is it literally you feeling like you throw harder with your wrists after you get into GDP? Thanks as always! These webinars have been extremely helpful!
Hi Craig I recently saw a Chuck video showing that we need to keep that elbow pit out and to keep it in front of our core all the way through the swing. This confused me as I thought we were to supinate the trail hand in the transition which would cause the elbow to supinate?
Would you say the GOAT code is actually a "pull" from the left (weight transfer) while also throwing from the right? Just trying to get my sequencing correct? Thank you.
For the November 5 Live Webinar, please provide a brief review of the similarities and differences between the GOAT putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing such as "arms do nothing", core driven, wrist hinge, pressure shift, etc. Thanks!
