Head Too Far Behind the Ball? Drills to Fix Your Axis Tilt

Published: March 2, 2026

In golf, it's common for someone to overdo a good thing.

Here's a great example:

You need to keep your head behind the ball in your golf swing, but I often see students who go way too far with this and end up with too much axis tilt at impact.

In this video, you'll find out:

  • How getting the right amount of axis tilt allows you to compress the golf ball better,
  • Why too much axis tilt sets you up for hooking and thinning the ball, and
  • Why most “advice” on spine angle in the golf swing is dead wrong and is putting your lower back at risk.

The correct amount of secondary axis tilt lets your trail shoulder drop naturally under your chin during the downswing, creating ideal attack angle without forcing your lower back into a compromised position. Too much tilt, and your swing path becomes overly inside-out, causing hooks and low, thin contact. Get an objective read on your tilt with an AI swing analyzer, and build the right movement pattern from the ground up using the GOAT Drill system.
