I received an email link from Chuck at Rotary Swing to the video "Widen the Angle". In it Chuck seems to be saying the exact opposite of what he's saying in this instructional video starting at the 3:35 point on what the wrists should be doing starting the downswing. Am I misunderstanding what he's saying or has Rotary Swing changed how they recommend we swing?

HI William, with my GOAT Theory study I have been focusing on what the greats did in their swing. While you can find tour players who increase the angle, the GOATs actually widened it and with 3D motion capture we now understand this. Before with just video, it was difficult to know what great ball strikers actually did in their swings.

Should the angle be widened by throwing the club head from the top with the left hand, the right hand or with both hands?

I cover this on the videos. Let me know if you still have questions after watching them again

I do wonder if there's a difference between "Widening the Angle" by throwing the club as stated in the video and casting the club? Finally are you currently teaching your students the GOAT theory or "widen the angle" approach? And if the former do you plan removing the latter video? Thanks for your answers.

Hi William, I would call them basically the same thing, except casting can get a pretty strong negative connotation. A real cast happens when your hands don't move fast enough to keep up with the club. As for this video, it's one that I imagine will get "whacked" a long with a bunch of others because yes, I'm teaching my in person students the GOAT Code because it's much, much, much simpler for them to learn, understand and get fast results with.

Hi Craig, There are currently two lengths that are sold. 48 and 40 inches. Is there a preferred length? It states the 48 inch is for people 5 ft 6 or taller, but 48 inches just seems extremely long. Hoping you had a recommendation on which way to go. Thanks!

Hello Matthew. I prefer the shorter one because of spacing and it matches more a normal club length. However, some players like the longer version because it allows them to really understand the radius and change in lag with the wrists. Personal preference.

I actually bought this before I found RST....but I'm wondering if the length is a huge factor. I got the longer one (I think its 40+ inches vs. 35ish). Would appreciate any feedback

Hello Jeff. The longer one is fine to use for RST purposes.

Is there any point buying this if I am looking to buy the G Force club? They seem to teach the same principles, but you can hit balls with the G Force club can't you. Thank you

Hello Tom. Both are useful tools. You can exaggerate the lag a little more with the trainer above. But, as noted the G Force will allow you to hit balls with it.

Hi with this drill it looks like chuck is getting left wrist cup when he downcocks. Is this correct with the left wrist during the downcock or should we have a flat left wrist? Any guidance/videos would be very welcome! Thanks Ed

Hello Edward. Chuck's wrist isn't really cupping that much as it appears on camera. Ideally, you wouldn't increase cupping during the downswing unless you wanted ridiculous lag and/or had a really strong grip. The lead wrist will be flat as the trail wrist has some hinge/set. Take a look at Using Your Wrists in the Golf Swing Video to see what they will do back and down.

I've just got my Gold Flex. It seems to be helpful in getting my lower body to lead during the down swing. One thing is that the 48" length is so long that I end up standing with my upper body very straight up and down to avoid hitting the ground. Any suggestions?

Hello Ross. Are you referring to the Gold Flex, or the Orange Whip? The Gold Flex we sell is around 38.5 Inches long.

I noticed that Chuck's gold flex looked shorter than mine. The shop I bought my gold flex from had a longer version of around 48" and a shorter version of around 40". I bought the longer one. So do I swing it standing straighter up or do I use a sort of baseball swing from normal golf posture or something else?

Hello Ross. Slightly taller and a little further away. You can see in the "The Orange Whip Lag Drill Video" Chuck uses one that is the same length as your current gold flex.

Love the video and I just received my Gold Flex so I am anxious to do the drill. The one thing missing from the video though is putting it all together! It would be really helpful to show the entire swing with the Gold Flex and also again in slow motion.

What a coincidence! I watched your lag video recently, then went looking online for the Orange Whip. Instead, I found something for half the price...this yellow SKLZ Gold Flex device! I'm encouraged to find out that my instincts were correct. So I ordered the 48"er last Tuesday, and it should arrive this week. Can't wait to work with it. And maybe take my wife to dinner on the savings!
