What should you be looking for to see how you're improving from one practice session to the next? Craig shows you what to check and how much progress you should achieve from one day to the next.

Hello everyone RST swing instructor Craig Morrow here and today what I want to do on my day one versus day two recap is I want to talk about my finished position as you know you're going to be going down your checklist looking at your checkpoints after you make the strike and the follow-through or the finish position is something that I use every day to gather valuable information it it doesn't tell me everything but it can give me a little bit of a window of what happened either correctly or incorrectly during the swing as you'll see on the left hand side I have day one on the right hand side day two and so let's kind of talk about this from the ground up the first thing that I'm sure that you'll notice is that my trail foot is rolled onto the instep on day one and on day two it's not as aggressive now my weight still on the instep right here but I'm not as aggressive with the pushing off my trail foot you'll see the byproducts of that as we start to work our way up look at my lead knee and my lead hip on day two they're starting to become much more stacked compared to the slidey position that I had in day one now this doesn't mean that I'm not getting off my trail foot I'm just not pushing so hard which is allowing me to stay in much more of a stacked position as we continue to work our way up from the hip I want you to take a look at my shoulders the second day of practice I had a much easier time stopping maintaining that impact position feel through the strike as I was pushing just a little bit too much with my trail side on day one I felt that I needed to catch up with my trail hand and as I started to catch up with my trail hand I would add a little bit more shoulder spin these two things is where we saw on day one that sometimes I'd hit it a little bit fat or sometimes I'd hit a little bit thin but on day two starting to delete the excessive push it was much easier for me to calm down my shoulders and stay in the shot and you'll notice a couple little miniature byproducts look at my glove hand on both swings you can see a lot more of my glove on this side versus the left hand side because right now we're not focused on having a big drawn -out powerful release trying to maintain that lead wrist and bowed position and you'll see that my face has much more rotation on the left hand side versus the right hand side it's much easier for me to maintain that impact position because my hips clearing back behind me better and with that I'm starting to get a better deceleration instead of kind of still accelerating through the shot I'm able to get my hip work done get my lead wrist into impact and not feel like I have to chase it I know some players at home feel like oh I've got it the club's never gonna get there and they feel like they have to keep chasing it well the cleaner post up on the right hand side of the screen has allowed me to really kind of calm some of the upper half items down really start to turn off the shoulders a little bit more turn off a little bit excessive trail hand so there's not a lot of information there hasn't been a ton of change to this point we can see some improvement but what I want you to do as you're progressing on your checkpoints make sure you're going about it from the ground up that you're kind of noticing some of these sometimes can be a little bit nitpicky but that you're kind of noticing these items how much is your trail foot really rolling on to the instep how stacked are the hip knee and ankle joint how are your shoulders doing are your shoulders ending up wide open or are they still relatively straight with your club right here how's the club face are you tending to flip it over can we still see a little bit of glove hand here because our focus is on impact so make sure as you're going through your checklist look at this finish position you can you know compare to your prior swings as I'm doing here or just really analyze what's going on from the ground up and typically that's the way that I look at swings because that's where I'm going to start to see problems first

Craig I noticed you are bending your right elbow on these short 15 yarders. I thought Chuck was keeping his straight. I tend to bend it as well. Is that okay?

Hello Ed. Ideally the trail arm/elbow will stay straight. I have a slight bend and I am gradually working out in my move. It is improving through the sessions. In Phase 1 the primary focus isn't on takeaway. So mine was just good enough to suffice to not focus on it yet.

Good point Craig to compare progression and things we should work more on next sessions. Great stuff!

Hello Luc. Vital to check these components. Sometimes you may think you are improving, but side by side (old v new) really shows the truth.

just did 100 balls session 1 in scottsdale AZ - only 100 degrees with 50% humidity so not too bad - fascinating that with the emphasis on shifting weight and opening hips at impact PRIOR to firing the arms that when I pulled out my driver with the same feeling I hit some of the best drives of the year. I also found the short shots were going about 40-50 yards is that what your balls were going? It was possible i was releasing the club a bit which resulted in greater distance. Regardless good job Craig this is helping me a lot?

Nice Bob! Love reading you are seeing some improvement working on the same drills. Sounds like you were adding release (Phase 2). Mine go about 15 yards. The goal is my impact and not distance at this stage. You keep allowing for weight, post and then release. Good things will happen!

Hi Craig, I like this new process, with AI, that insures you do the necessary reps. I also like the videos with you going through the process to show your success’s and failures. My question is how do you classify late swings due to weight shift. Chuck said you could favor the front foot with a smaller swing, but how do you count it?

Hello Ron. You can favor the lead foot in this move. Since I am in more of a stock position. I can feel when weight didn't fully transfer leading to the poor strike. So, I can't count the late weight and not being stacked properly at the moment of truth.

Hi Craig, if you’re still taking tallies I’m in favor of the longer version of your sessions. I love your thought process as you work out the impact issues. The more data you give me to process and reflect on my own swing through better for me. Just got to Huatulco from Madrid today and hope to send my Session 1 review again tomorrow— now based on your session videos. Respectfully, Tony Palos.

Hello Tony. I hope you had a great trip and welcome back! Looking forward to seeing the new and improved version. Still taking tallies. As soon as I begin Phase 2 I hope to have the content to everyone's liking.

Excellent review and improvement on your part. Those were subtleties I would not have noticed.

Hello Jack. Albeit small you need to take the small wins when you can get them. Glad you liked the review.
