Intro to GOAT Theory - What it FEELS Like to Swing Like Tiger

Want to know what it feels like to swing like the GOAT? Who hasn't dreamed of what it would feel like to hit just one shot like Tiger Woods? Well, now you can find out for yourself!

So you want to know what it might feel like to swing like the goat.

I've always said for many, many years that I just believe that Tiger's swing was simpler than everybody else's.

But because I've always been a lead side guy, I love the effortless look and feel of the swings.

Like Ernie Els.

Tiger's swing has, of course, it's changed over the years, but his basic movement pattern has always been the same.

And of course I'm going to throw it out there probably nobody's ever studied Tiger's swing.

I've spent countless thousands of hours studying his swing more than probably anybody ever should.

But what's interesting about it is, the more I looked at it, the more I thought about it, the simpler it became, and the simpler it became to teach somebody.

So as I started thinking more and more about it, I started coming up with an idea of how I could get anybody to understand.

The basic big picture of what Tiger's doing in his swing and how everything that you've struggled with in your swing.

From over the top, casting, losing, like flipping at impact, inside, takeaway, you name it.

It all starts to happen naturally, because if you look at Tiger's swing, he's basically did the same thing since he was two years old.

So it can't be that complicated if a two-year-old can learn it.

Now you look at the average golfer out there, they're really, really struggling with just about everything under the sun.

And I've seen countless swings, and we've done over a hundred thousand online swing reviews, so we've seen everything.

That, every mistake that anybody could ever make.

And the bottom line is.

Learning how to use the lead side for most people, and learning how to use their legs to hit the ball and ground for leverage is a challenge.

It.

It It.

It just takes a lot of time and not everybody's going to spend that kind of time.

And not everybody has the awareness of what they're doing in their swings.

Because every time I think that the world can't have a worse golf swing, I see something that continues to impress me.

So I want to make things simpler, easier to get real power, and you saw that with the Axiom Power Program, where people are instantly picking up distance.

And so I want to take it a step further to see if I could get somebody to swing like Tiger and really understand what that movement is.

And here's what I came up with, and it's shockingly simple, but it works.

As you saw with one of the students, I did with Venkatesh.

He picked up over 30 yards.

He broke 80 for the first time, did it twice in two weeks, and he's hitting a draw for the first time in his life.

After hitting everything as a cut or a slice.

Here's all we did.

The simplest way to think about Tiger Swing is that it's entirely built around the release, and once you understand this release.

Which is the most important part of the golf swing period, whether you're lead side or trail side dominant, everything starts to make sense because as that's your primary priority in the swing.

Everything else that you've been doing that's been a mistake.

You're going to understand why and instantly be able to understand how to fix it quickly.

So here's all I want you to do the you know I hate training aids you don't need a training aid I actually cut the head off a driver shaft here sorry Stuart's or GeForce Clubs I cut the head off because I wanted a long shaft if you have an alignment stick an old shaft go to Home Depot and pick up a dowel rod for a couple bucks you just need something that's a few feet long about the length of a driver shaft and light that's what we want to do first because this is going to give you the feeling of Tiger's release and then we're going to build from there so here's all you need to do take the shaft whatever you've got and I want you to just focus on getting your wrist in the right position now this is key because all of your speed the vast majority of your speed comes from the release of the right hand and if you don't understand how to release your wrist then you're never going to have speed in the swing but once you understand how simple this is you're going to instantly see feel and hear the speed that you're going to be able to produce so how do we set our wrist for maximum speed it's basically exactly how you would hit a nail with a hammer your wrist is going to cock up it's going to hinge a little bit because that's going to if I just cock my wrist it's as far as it'll go if I add a little hinge I get a little bit more out of it so that's all I want you to do is set the wrist fully now just rotate it so the shafts down the target line basically like this so this is all you're trying to do from here all I want you to do is release this actively you're going to literally try and make this shaft swoosh without trying to use your body at all without trying to use your shoulders where most people make mistakes they try to heave their body into it we'll talk more about that in a minute I want you to just use your wrist now there's not a lot of speed but there's definitely some here right the motion here that you're trying to understand is releasing the wrist fully actively as if you were throwing a ball you would do the exact same thing if you were to throw a ball your wrist would uncock unhinge and rotate exactly like that exactly like what you see in tiger's hands now I've tried to release the club every single way under the sun I used to be a guy trying to rotate my body through I've let it release my left hand I've let it release to my right hand the only way I was ever to get my swing to look very similar to tiger's get the release to look very similar to tiger's was when I actively started releasing this right hand and when you look at it from up the line you'll see tiger releases so much that his right wrist starts to actually bow on the other side of the ball this can't happen unless you're actively releasing that right hand and once you start doing that you're going to start feeling speed so let's do this right hand only you're not going to move your arm much at all and actively try to get the swoosh sound at the ball or where the ball would be down on the ground now some of you are going to try and mess this up for me and you're going to start trying to use your arm it's not our arm it's our wrist so if you're starting to do this you're missing the entire point speed is just coming from here it's this so now once I've got this basic speed notice my body's not doing anything my shoulder's not doing anything my arm is really just moving in response to what I'm doing solely with my wrist that's the only thing I'm trying to do is this but now my arm is going to change position as I do this I'm not trying to actively use my arm yet I'm just trying to feel my wrist now all I need to do is make this motion a little bit bigger and a little bit bigger but my concentration is trying to get the peak swoosh sound the maximum sound to happen down here at the ball and to do that I have to release my wrist actively I can't turn my shoulders none of that stuff's going to help and I'm going to demonstrate that in a moment what you're going to hear is different so let's take a little bit longer backswing set your wrist again and get your arm into that throwing position I'm not going to cover the throwing motion if you know how to throw this is basic stuff if you're not sure how to throw the axiom power program walks you through that in detail so I'm going to take a little bit longer swing and now I'm going to my wrist is fully set now hear how much more speed I can get with my right hand as I make a little bit longer stroke now notice I really went from just wrist to just a slightly longer backswing but the speed has radically changed if you struggle with making these crazy long backswings and all of this stuff it's always because of power or lack thereof you're making a big swing moving off the ball over swinging heaving your shoulders at the ball because you've sensed that you don't have power in your swing that's why everything bad happens you take the club inside you're trying to push with your lead side the club's getting buried and then you're going to heave with your shoulders coming down but do that with the same motion so now make a little swing just with your arm now try to use your shoulders the shwoosh sound happens out here the ball's long gone that doesn't do us any good it's very difficult to time the release when everything is moving and that's why you see tiger when he gets down into impact his body slams on the brakes and he releases that right hand as hard as he can if you're using your body as hard as you can to rotate you'll never be able to slam on the brakes you'll never post up I cover that in the axiom power program so as you're doing this what you're trying to feel and realize is that if I just actively release my right hand then I don't really need to load up my body that much that's why tiger is changing his swing to protect his body in my opinion so as you go back with this you're going to start making just a little bit longer stroke but you're going to realize like making a you know a tight shoulder turn and pushing hard off my legs it doesn't make the shaft move any faster and you can hear it what if I try and turn my shoulders through listen let's turn as fast as I can but the swoosh sound isn't there compared to this listen to the difference it's so much simpler to understand how to release this wrist and that's all you're trying to focus on is releasing the wrist and then you slowly make this a little bit longer stroke the priority becomes the release and everything else is secondary to that even the throwing motion because your arm if you've tried the axiom power program and your elbows hurting it's because you're trying to throw way too hard it's not going to help the club go any faster in fact it's going to make the release happen later if you're trying to throw so hard you're going to tend to turn your shoulder into it your elbow is going to get too far out in front and the club's going to release late that's not going to do us any good we want our club to release right at the ball we want full release full extension at the point we're striking the ball that makes it so much simpler and once you have that you start realizing all the things you're doing in your backswing to try and feel a sense of power don't make any sense anymore because i don't need to swing back that far to make the shaft peek out at maximum speed so again i'll do a little swing just wrist a little longer and i'll go all the way back i don't have to make this big massive turn like trying to really rip my shoulders into it it's not going to go any farther but you'll also figure out that once i'm focusing just on this if this is my top priority to release and throw just like we do in the power program if i'm just doing this then my arm starts to naturally move in a way that allows this to happen the right way so i'm not taking the club inside it's not gonna do me any good right if i rip the club inside how am i going to get my wrist down here how about if i reverse pivot well now how would i throw down here none of that stuff starts making sense when you prioritize a hundred percent on the release so if i'm just wanting to do this all i need to do is make it a little longer and now i've got all the speed in the world and all of your swing mistakes start going away you're losing lag well why would you lose lag if you're trying to actively release your hand you're going to start thinking about the swing very differently when you know that everything is coming from this which is what i believe tiger is doing so you'll start naturally maintaining lag the reason you're losing lag is because you're trying to use your shoulders typically to get speed or trying to throw from the top which doesn't make any sense if you're trying to whip the club through and actively using your right hand why would you do any of those things it doesn't make any sense so your swing starts becoming natural and that's how i'm able to teach this solely through feel with no mechanics no positions i'm not going to tell you put your arms right here your arms are naturally going to go up to here because that's the natural position to throw from why would my arm go like this or way in here how am i going to throw from here it doesn't make any sense this is why i think tiger swing is so much simpler than everybody else's because it's based entirely on just actively releasing the right hand and then everything else goes from there now once you've done that a bunch with the shaft and you start feeling how your arm just naturally moves to throw take a golf club i'm using my driver here the driver should be your favorite club in the back and i know most people are terrified of it the reason is because you're trying to produce power the wrong way so everything falls apart in your golf swing i want you to get used to loving this thing because everybody should be hitting the ball at least 270 plus yards so you don't have to use your driver for this but it actually makes feeling the release much easier with the longer shaft there's more momentum more inertia with the club head so i actually think it's a good idea to practice this with your driver so take it upside down first and get the feeling because now you're going to have a different sound and you can go back to just the right wrist down here and get that feeling of actively rotating and releasing you'll see as i do this my arm's staying straight i'm not trying to scoop it with my arm this is not a bicep curl this is a throw with the wrist an active release with the wrist you'll see my wrist rotating over starting to bode just like you see in tiger swing but as the because we have the the grip on the end of the club the sound changes and the weight changes so this is an incremental step to getting used to the club when you do it without a like if you're just doing with an alignment stick or just a shaft like i had there and there's no weight on there it doesn't feel the same exactly the same as when you're swinging the golf club because there's no mass down there but i want you to learn how to do that to get speed and then we're going to slowly start adding more mass to it so that's why the long shaft of the driver and the grip on there starts getting you the feeling of how this smooths out and you can't try and manipulate it that you can kind of cheat and throw it around all over the place but the point of that is to get speed to get wicked speed really fast and then as you're starting doing this with the shaft upside down the same thing would it make sense to turn my shoulders no would it make sense to do a lot of guys are out there trying to hold the release of the face off why would i do that it's hard on my back there's no speed we want speed we want to release that that's the whole point of the golf swing that's good stuff that's the fun part the payoff is in the release and tiger's swing in my opinion is solely based around this release so if you do this it's so simple now you're starting to feel real speed now take the club right side up you can choke up on it if you like now do the same thing now you're going to feel how the club pulls your arms straight as you're actively releasing it pulls you to a follow-through if you're holding off and you're releasing like this you're missing the entire point of the swing it should be a completely freed up release and i should have no choice but to end up in a full follow-through i should have no choice but to end up on my left leg all of the things that you're probably trying to do in your swing but can't you know having a horrible follow through hanging on the back foot all of that stuff when you start to throw and actively release with the right hand everything starts to naturally find its way it starts to naturally fall into place you do it from down the line we're going to do a little stroke listen for the swoosh you'll also notice as i'm starting to do this it becomes natural for my foot to slip out the counter torque move that you've seen the power program as i'm trying to get my arm to fully release fully extend through those things happen naturally every time you see a golfer who's a powerful golfer and you see their foot slipping out they're throwing it's a natural byproduct of a throw that is the entire swing in a nutshell of what i think tiger's doing it's nothing more than actively releasing and everything else just it just gets a little bit bigger and a little bit bigger and a little that's the entire thing that's why it's so much simpler that's why i'm able to take guys like you saw with pedro and van katesh and immediately get 30 40 50 plus yards because this is all i'm having them feel when you go to put your lead hand on here this is the critical part and this is where i've seen people throw this off they don't realize that now they put their left hand on they start grabbing the club with their left hand and doing all kinds of crazy stuff you need to feel a thousand percent right handed if you're wanting to feel and experience this movement pattern of what tiger's doing so when your left hand's on there the right hand doesn't change what it's doing you're still setting up to actively release but the left hand is now going to help control the face etc etc but you're going to feel that you don't use it at all most likely for most players because you start doing all kinds of stuff pushing off here burying the club inside so when you put your right hand back on or excuse me your left hand back on feel like it's not on there and you're just going to hold the club with your fingers like you're going to throw the grip you're going to throw the club head at the ball and relax your left arm and feel that same motion so you can do little strokes and you can see as i'm doing this as i'm releasing the club head i'll go slow through here how easy it is to square the face and this is why guys who are doing this instantly start being able to draw the ball if you're used to turning your shoulders through the club face doesn't want to rotate if you're used to sliding all sorts of stuff that all goes away as you start releasing the club face so now with both hands start feeling that active release with the right hand this feeling with both hands will still feel a hundred percent right-handed for most players now again if you've never thrown before i'm not going to go into all the details of that i spent 40 minutes going into the throwing mechanics and the axiom power program so but if you do know how to throw it's nothing more than a relatively gentle throw because you don't need to throw that hard because most of the speed is coming from here and as you're actively releasing that that's where you're going to feel speed so you don't have to throw that aggressive now you're probably wondering well aren't i going to flip doing this well tiger's doing this and he ain't flipping the reason you flip is because you cast the reason you cast is because you're trying to use your shoulders typically or your arm incorrectly to produce speed wouldn't you know that everything's got to come from what i think of it this way you may come up with a different word but i think of this as like a swat i'm swatting at the ball with my right hand and so if that's my number one priority and everything else is secondary to that then there's no way that i'm going to flip because i'm going to have all this lag for days and then once it's here i'm just trying to get rid of it so you're not going to scoop you're not going to flip but you may feel that way if you're one of those guys who's been trying to hold off the release or or spin through or all kinds of stuff you may feel it's a flip but the only way you're going to flip and scoop is if you start casting the club early and that's what causes this breakdown but again the axiom power program walks you into this throwing motion so you cannot flip with this but it may feel like that if you've been doing something funky with your hands this is a natural release it's a natural throwing motion and all the positions you're trying to hit a flat left wrist having lags shaffling all that it happens naturally so give this a shot if you want to feel what it feels like to release the club like tigers a couple little simple checkpoints i'm going to give you one is the follow-through so we can look at what you did or what you look like in the follow-through and have a pretty good understanding of what you did down here one interesting thing about tigers follow-through is that the shaft looks kind of flat it doesn't look like if you look at somebody like a old school colin montgomery or something where the shaft's very vertical tigers looks very flat and the club face is rotated over a lot of times golfers their club face i'll turn this way so you can see this the club face kind of looks like it's pointing back here at the camera the reason tigers follow-through looks flat where the shaft is relatively more parallel to the ground and the club face is released the only way you can get there actively releasing releasing rotating the right wrist i naturally end up here so when you look at tigers follow-through if you look something very different than this you're probably not releasing the club correctly and you don't need to go through 50 000 different swing mechanics to understand what happened it's all done by the release i don't have to like i'm not going to make a golf swing here i'm just going to release my right wrist and look at my follow-through it looks very similar to what tiger's doing so same thing if you don't understand like you're sliding through impact you're not why would i do this and try and actively release my hand it doesn't make sense you would post up naturally your foot's going to move a lot that's what's happening in his swing and everything else that he's doing is simply a natural byproduct of setting that up his backswing simply as a result of him knowing that this is what i'm trying to do down here so why would i if i know i need to get into this position and release my right hand why would i do this why would i do this that's all you trying to do things in the golf swing that you think or know you should do without understanding why or how to do them correctly but this takes all of that out of play this is your only priority if you can do this right and you make it slightly longer you can hit the ball a thousand times better than you are right now instantly draw the ball instantly have real power and no swing thoughts it's solely done through feel so give it a shot give me your feedback i'd love to hear what you guys feel with this as i said this is mostly uh theoretical for me i'm just i'm theorizing about what i think tiger feels and what he's doing in his golf swing and but i hope that you find it very very helpful because it's helping a lot of players hit the ball way better way faster without working on any swing mechanics and getting real immediate results

With so many swing theories out there, this video stands head and shoulders above the rest. It's the KISS principle as applied to golf. Maybe this is where all golf instruction should start first, in the fingers and hand! Start swinging the club with your hands and the body will eventually join in.

What up Chuck! I just wanted to tell you that I nearly gave up on the goat code and golf in general because I just couldn’t get consistent. My only swing thought at the top now is the J. As long as I release my hands…(much earlier than I used to think), I’m absolutely puring the ball. The J swing thought is very genius. I never realized the motion from the top until I saw that video. Even chipping has been much easier…for me, it’s all about controlling that release and focusing on the J. Im shooting consistently in the 70’s now, and there’s still much room to grow. Thanks for concentrating on feelings instead of just positions…it has been the real key to my understanding. Much love from Idaho!

Hello. What is the best plan of attack for the videos? I’ve watched all the into ones but do I start on phase 1 or do I watch all of the goat ones and setup and grip ones etc. As in work through in the order they are laid out of start the actual course and jump to the videos I need after that. Thanks

Hi Thomas, most golfers have switched to just following the goat code which is the latest content

I am struggling a bit to know where to start on this website as there is so much information. I am into Phase 2 Gaining Control where it talks almost exclusively of the Left Hand and its importance in developing a consistent release. I then took a look at the Goat Theory Intro and it is almost the exact opposite in that it talks so much about the Right and and being right hand dominant in the swing. Should I continue on with Phases 1-4 or switch to the GOAT instruction ????

Hi John, most have switched over to the GOAT Code as it is an evolution of C4 and an approach that makes it simpler still.

Just watching your first video and concept of hitting and releasing with right hand , which I love the idea of as I have always not cocked the club much on the way back and fired through with right hand . I am a 61 year old off scratch handicap , having played for 49 years . have a down cock swing from the top ( rather than on the way back- which looks very short but is powerful with a full shoulder turn ) and my error which is often and very damaging a few times a round has always been pull drawing and shutting the face from the right hand often by trying to release the right hand . Why is this happening when you see Tiger release the head so much AFTEr the hit ? It makes me very nervous to try nd throw the right hand from the top of the backswing

Do you have a hackmotion? If all else is well it’s likely you are bowing the lead wrist too much too soon

What’s a hack motion please? On all my pull hooks I notice the club shut all the way through to a half finish and I can’t feel when I am doing this . Yet on all my videos and have amazing lag till very late before impact on the way down

Awesome stuff! I’ve felt like my swing was “rough” or “stiff” feeling. Also, I consider myself a feel golfer, I want to know how to feel, I don’t want to know what the mechanics are as much. Unfortunately I don’t feel many guy do a great job of teach that way like you do and so I’ve become very mechanical in my swing. I started trying this system and originally my swing speed was a good bit slower but I kept trying. I could start to see a difference in just 2 days. Before trying this my 7 iron with me giving all I could would be around 88-89 mph and I felt like I was using every muscle in my body to do that. Day 2 I got my faster recorded 7 iron swing speed using this method with a 91.7 swing speed and it felt way more effortless. I still feel that I throw my hand to soon some but when I pretend I’m hitting the ball to first base I’m able to hold that lag better and release or throw the club at the bottom.

Ya it takes a little bit of time to get the rhythm and feel when you’re used to swinging hard. Hard to trust you can produce so much speed without breaking your body in two!

Hey Chuck. This is all great stuff and I do feel much more athletic in my swing. I’ve picked up about 3-5 mph with the driver after watching the Axiom power program and GOAT theory release videos. Do you think I should be able to increase my driver club head speed more than that? I’m also hitting a lot of smother hooks with the driver. Clubface is 3-4 degrees shut at impact.

Depends on where you're at speed wise. If you're already over 120 mph you might be nearing peak. If you're under 105 you should be able to add a lot more. If the face is closed it could be grip, shut face going back or you're not using your body enough in the downswing and over using the right hand.

Hello Chuck, hope all is well! I watched the GOAT video, great video again and of course I agree with what you try to get accross to us! Here is my question: How should I project this right hand throwing motion to myself, a a left hand dominant person, I am not totally left hand dominant but I throw left handed, and throwing right handed always feel difficult and looks like a ladies throwing motion with poor outcome. Also swinging right hand only is still very uncontrolled for me? Thanks for helping!

That's a tricky one that you will have to decide which is best. If you watch the video I did with Kasey (the lefty) he is not naturally left handed but the throw helped him a ton. For me, my left hand throw is like yours so I'm not sure how it would feel for me to learn to throw this way.
