Stop Overthinking Your Swing Learn How to Get Laser-Focused for Higher Quality Shots
Join RotarySwing master instructor Chris Tyler for a presentation on how to de-clutter your mind when you step onto the golf course. You'll get an inside look at the two moves that make up Chris' pre-shot routine, then he answers your questions about your own struggles as you step up to the tee.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome back, we have got a big night for you guys tonight.
We are going to learn how to stop sucking so bad on the golf course and learn how to get our minds cleared out.
And learn how to execute golf shots so that we can start playing better golf.
And I'm pretty excited to talk to, talk to you guys about this very topic tonight.
Because we actually had planned me for me to do it earlier in the year.
But I unfortunately came down with the Covid and it knocked me out of commission for about 10 days.
So Chuck picked up the pieces and did his presentation on, uh, pre-shot preparation.
I've got a very, very different outlook on things.
I'm not in any way contradictory to what Chuck talks about.
Just a different way for you to be able to approach your on course rounds so that you can declutter.
That's the whole purpose of tonight's session, so hopefully you guys enjoy the information.
What we're going to do is we're going to go through a bunch of stuff really early on.
And then I would like to have some open discussion at the very end, where we talk about, um, some of the things that you guys might be battling with on the golf course.
Or maybe you guys have worked on some different techniques that allow you to help clear out your mind and allow you to do things at a much higher level.
So very excited to have you guys here tonight.
I'm going to go ahead and let everybody come into the room and get settled.
Those of you that are posting up in the comments here welcome.
Hopefully you guys have all had a great week.
Um, we had a little issue with the signup process for this webinar.
I guess there was an update that came from our host webinar, Ninja, that we weren't prepared for, and it happened very last minute.
So if you guys did have any sort of registration problems, we apologize.
Um, it put our programming team into a tailspin and they were able to get things sorted out for us pretty quickly.
So, um, if you notice some changes in the administrative panel for your member tools on the website over the next few days, just know that.
That's us trying to make this whole situation a little bit easier for you guys to be able to come in and out of these, um, RSA live webinars.
Because Craig and I have quite a few things planned for the next few months.
Because you guys actually stepped up to the plate and helped us out with some new topics, so I'm excited.
So it's good to see everybody.
We're going to let everybody come in and get settled.
Because I know a lot of people forget what time this thing starts.
So we're going to start in about three or four minutes.
It's nice to see everybody.
Ken, Welcome Greg here for your lobotomy.
I love it.
Welcome Craig Morrow ladies and gentlemen.
Master certified Craig Morrow, the legend himself is joining us in the chat tonight, so make sure you say hi to Craig.
Craig and I have been working a lot together on the back end, coming up with new content for the website.
We're going to be putting on a lot more videos, we're also going to be doing a lot more of these, these smaller, these mini RSA webinars, which we really like these.
Because it allows us to have some back and forth conversation with our members, allows us to hear what you guys are doing, what you're working on and it helps bring more to the table, right?
Because we all want to go out there and build this really good golf swing.
But you have to understand one really important piece here, there's a lot of moving parts to the game of golf.
CAPISCE All right, so not sucking.
I need this on auto replay, exactly.
We're going to answer some big questions tonight.
GLEnn So John s welcome.
My shoes are really squeaky, so if you hear some weird noises coming out of my floor, I don't know why I chose these shoes tonight.
So I apologize.
Hopefully everybody can hear me.
All right, Craig is the, uh, the sound good, I hope this.
I was doing some tuning on this mic.
All right, sounds like we are good to go.
Got a lot of late people, man.
People must be getting out of work, or they just forgot everything was going on tonight.
So one or two more minutes and then we're going to get underway.
Good evening Barbara, welcome.
So what we're going to do tonight is for those of you that haven't attended any of our mini webinars, or you haven't attended any of our our boot camp stuff?
Because I'm going to talk for probably about 20 to 25 minutes or so, and then at the end, I'm going to leave a good block of time available for us to have some interactive chat back and forth.
Because I think what you're going to find is that a lot of members that aren't able to join us here tonight actually find the chat to be extremely valuable.
Because you might feel like you might be the only person having that question and you might be a little bit afraid to ask it, but don't be afraid to ask it.
Okay, we're here to help you.
Okay, because we have a pretty big membership base, and we want you to understand that somebody else probably has that same question behind it.
So welcome Tom, welcome.
Hopefully everybody's having a wonderful week so far.
It's Wednesday and this first part of the year is flying by so so fast.
All right, looks like we're ready to rock and roll, okay?
So here's what we're going to do tonight.
We are going to learn together as a group how to start trusting our golf swings.
That's what we're going to learn tonight.
We're going to learn how to trust our golf swings.
Golf is a swing, it's not a hit.
Some of you like to go out there and try to bash away at it, but you have to remember.
This game requires a lot of precision, right?
And when you're out there, trying to get this little small golf ball on, this little head lined up.
With all your might, with all your hands in your arms, you're making golf way more difficult than it needs to be.
Okay, so we're going to answer a couple questions together.
First, first question Why do I have so much technical clutter in my brain on the golf course?
why do I have so much technical clutter?
And don't just answer the question in the chat, saying I have that technical clutter because my golf swing sucks, why do you take so much technical clutter?
Five, six different things onto the golf course?
When you're playing, ask yourself that question.
If you want to wait and comment at the end, you can.
If you want to comment now, feel free to do so.
The next question we're going to answer tonight is, Why do my swing changes never show up on the golf course?
I work in the garage, I work in my living room, I work in my kitchen on my golf swing all day long.
I drive my family nuts, I drive my co-workers nuts.
I'm always working on my golf swing.
Why do my swing changes never show up on the golf course?
Well, I'm going to help you answer that question tonight because golf is one of those sports that will drive you batty, right?
It's such a fickle game.
I had a conversation with a guy today who went out and hit the golf ball.
Better than he's ever hit it on Saturday, better than he ever hit it.
And Sunday he went out there and it was a catastrophe.
And so he's like, I'm just going to dust myself off.
And I'm going to go back out on Monday to the same thing, and Monday was a catastrophe.
And what that basically tells me and tells him is that his golf swing changes are in limbo, right?
His golf swing changes are not necessarily fully seated at this point.
And so you have to continue to push yourself through the repetition process, even when things start to go poorly.
Remember, if you have the devil sitting over on this side and you got the good angel over on this side.
They don't play nicely with each other, okay?
And so it takes just a little distraction.
Or it takes maybe even a little bit of success early on to get your confidence up, to think that you own it.
And then all of a sudden all hell breaks loose, and that's probably more frustrating than anybody wants to admit, right?
So, David, excellent answer where you said, feel fair.
Fear of failure, lack of trust, that's right.
We're so worried about the consequence, we're so fearful of what could be a negative outcome.
That's where you have to start challenging your subconscious a different way, and that's what we're going to learn tonight is we're going to teach you a better way to get prepared on the golf course in your rounds, so that you stop worrying so much about what your swing is doing.
And I've got some really good examples.
And for those of you that have either worked with myself, or worked with Craig, or worked with Chuck.
If some of you have heard this speech from me before, I'm sorry.
I sound like an old man sitting on the stairway with you, eating some Werther's originals, telling you the same story over and over again.
But I'm going to beat this into your brain because it's really important.
Okay, for some reason, there's a little chat that's going on here that's making it impossible for me to see the chat, but no big deal.
So these are the two questions I want you to ask yourself, and I want you to.
By the end of tonight's presentation, hopefully you'll be able to answer those yourself.
Now.
The first one, Why do I have so much technical clutter in my brain?
I want you to remember and you're not.
Some of you are not going to like this one.
actually, most of you are not going to like this one.
The person that you brought to the dance is the one that you're stuck with, no questions asked.
Okay, now, everybody in this chat can tell me that they can swing the club differently on the golf course or make changes on the golf course.
And I'll call, I'll tell you, you can.
You can maybe get a little active manipulation from the hands and the arms to give it a sort of a small appearance change, but that's really it.
I can tell you countless stories where I've had people fly in and their and their starting point of their range.
Session goes like this.
All right, Chris, this is what I've been working on, this is what I'm doing.
I feel really good about it.
And they get up and they start hitting balls and they start, but really poorly, right?
And I would expect that because people get a little bit nervous, they get a little bit tense and what happens?
Well, their hands and arms speed up a little bit and they're trying to show off and things just go really bad.
And so I'll videotape a couple of those swings while they're trying to get loosened up and trying to calm themselves down.
Once I see them, calm themselves down and they're like, Okay, now let me show you the way I really swing, and I'm like, Okay.
And so they start swinging again and they start hitting the ball a little bit better.
I videotape that swing and I'll put both of those swings up on the screen for them and I'll show you.
And I'll have you go through both of those swings with me, and I'll have you pick which one is, which No.
But I've been working on this, I've been doing this with my shoulders, I've been doing this with my right leg.
It doesn't look any different, I promise you, okay, so your subconscious is a powerful, powerful thing.
So what we have to do is we've got to go through this process, this biological process, change.
Okay, it's not a sexy process.
Those of you that are sitting in this room have been through it, right, or are starting to go through it.
You've done.
Magnitudes of reps 3 000, 5 000 reps.
3 000 5 000 reps doesn't mean old movement patterns die.
I promise you, we can't unlearn anything.
Unfortunately, I would like to unlearn a lot of things in my life, but we're stuck with those things.
All we can do at this point is practice the proper way, challenge our subconscious, and have better preparation for better commitment to your rounds of golf.
That's what you have to remember, and I'm going to teach you tonight.
The exact processes that I used personally when I was playing golf full-time, the exact processes.
And this is how I was able to get over some of the psychological demons that we all battle with.
So the first thing you want to remember this is what you have to tell yourself and convince yourself once and for all stop bsing around.
Okay, you have to remember that the girl or the boy that you brought to the dance is the one that you're stuck with.
Got it now.
What I want you to think about when you get out to the golf course is how to start preparing for your shots, one shot at a time.
We've all heard that before, right?
We've all heard that one shot at a time.
Don't get ahead of ourselves, don't dwell in the past.
Sounds sounds great on paper, right?
But we're going to talk to you about how to get these preparations in place so that you do the same thing every single time.
Have you watched the guys on the PGA Tour, the ladies in the LPGA Tour?
What they do prior to hitting golf balls or prior to hitting a shot?
They go through a whole routine, a whole process, and if you watch their processes, albeit very different, from one person to the next.
They're always doing the same thing.
And they do it as a way to be able to clear out their brain and take commitment to what they're trying to do in the golf course, trust me, it goes a long ways.
So what we're going to talk about is how to become mentally tough, and we're going to talk about what this, this trust line, is all about.
So I'm going to put a line down on the ground, I'm going to use this little training aid here.
And this line is going to be approximately three feet back from where the golf ball would be.
I'm going to put a ball down, little plastic ball there, so this line is three feet back from the golf ball.
So I'm going to stand back here with you guys, I'm going to do a lot of talking.
I know I'm off frame, but work with me.
This line is extremely important, it's a visual.
You're not going to be out there taking lines and dropping them on the ground and saying, Okay, let me hold up the golf course here and let me put this line down and I'm going to be working on my trust line stuff.
Okay, it's a visual.
When you start your processes of preparation, what you need to start thinking about is less about what you're doing with your head, less about what you're doing when pronation and supination.
And what you're doing with your sacrum, and what you're doing with your right glute, and what you're doing with your wrists.
Not all that stuff you need to get that shit, excuse my mouth out of your brain.
This is where we start the processes of getting ready to hit the shot.
What I do in my processes is I start looking at the distance, that's the first thing I do.
I get out of the cart or I walk up to the ball, I like to walk, I hate riding.
But Florida, apparently, everybody's just real lazy.
We have to write.
Take carts, probably because it's really hot, too.
But when I get out of the golf cart or I'm walking up to my shot, the first thing I'm doing is I'm getting my laser out or I'm pacing off distance?
I love the old-fashioned method, because when I'm pacing off distances, it allows me to start slowing my tempo down a little bit.
Because what we always try to do as golfers, especially when we get under the gun, or especially when we had a bad shot, what do we do?
We start going faster, we walk up to that next shot, we're all we're all missed, and we're like, we're gonna get there faster, we're gonna make the next shot, right.
Well, if you watch, and I know, the PGA Tour has been battling with a slow play issue for quite some time now.
But if you watch those guys after they hit a shot, like after they go out there and they hit a full swing shot, watch them.
When they walk off the tee, they're like, in this slow jaunt, it's nice.
A nice, evenly paced walked.
How many of you actually take the initiative to walk slow and keep your breathing down?
How many of you?
I know a lot of you are probably like, let's take beta blockers and let's keep all that stuff at bay, right?
So what we want to start doing is is we want to start the preparation process by thinking about yardage.
So let's just say today's yardage, or tonight's yardage is 150 yards, so we're going to use a nice round number.
150 yards is the shot that I'm faced with now.
I'm facing a little bit of an uphill shot tonight, that's going to maybe add five yards, right, five, six yards, so 150, 560 yards.
The wind is back in my face, just a little bit, it's probably back in my face off the right side.
Let's say seven to eight miles an hour.
So I'm going through yardage slope, okay, I'm going through wind, and now I'm going to start taking in the actual target itself.
Now there's a big misconception when it comes to aiming, right?
We feel like we have to look and fire away from where we're trying to miss the ball now.
Yes, you do want to have small quadrants, but you need to think small, miss small, pick smaller targets, pick smaller targets.
It goes a long ways because it helps your focus, you helps you get laser focus, like we talk about in the email.
So after you've gone through that preparation, you've gotten your yardage all picked out.
It's 150 yards, it's uphill, I've added six yards, it's back in about 10 miles.
So I'm going to be playing a like a 164 165 a shot.
But now when it's playing back into the wind.
And this is the stuff that we're all going through, and this is the stuff that you're going to learn when you start getting more in tune with the shot itself.
So all of this stuff that is going through my mind and going through Craig's mind, and going through anybody.
That plays this game at a high level is happening really quickly.
Because we've done it for so long.
And I'm going to teach you in just a little bit how to start working on this on your own time.
So now I'm going to hit a 170 shot from 150, why did I go all the way up to 170?
Does anybody know?
Well, if I'm hitting the ball uphill into the wind and I'm trying to keep the spin down, then guess what, I'm going to take a lot more clubs so I can kind of chip back into it, so I don't get any ball, so my club selection for that.
You guys are probably at home, like, what?
Yeah, I'm going to hit seven iron?
I'm going to hit seven iron into this 150 shot because I know it's going to be playing right at 170.
I know that I have to be able to execute a certain shot that I know is going to play well in this environment.
Now let's talk about that piece.
This is where the visualization of the shot, everybody's heard this before.
You want to visualize the shot that you're going to hit.
High, draw, low, cut, a little spinner, okay, something low and under the wind, really good trajectory.
I'm all for that.
But you at home are the only one that knows what your golf swing is capable of producing, and you can't fudge it.
To be honest with you, you know, when you're out there and you're hitting the golf ball really well.
The sort of shot that you can see from this, it may not be on the same trajectory as me, it may not have the same sort of shot shape as me.
That doesn't mean that you can't execute this shot.
What I'm trying to tell you is is that you need to visualize what you would do in that situation.
So once you get your decision made, which is probably going to be a little bit different than mine.
This is when the routine starts, or the routine to get into execution.
You already started the routine of prepping yourself, getting your yardage together, thinking about what you're trying to hit for a shot.
Now, here's a little secret.
Because we all like to have swing thoughts, right?
How many of you at home want to have a swing thought?
Because you think it's going to help save the world?
Well, I'm okay with that, right?
So we're going to do that, but we're going to do it back here and we're going to tie it back in to the visual of the shot that I'm trying to play.
So one thing that I like to do in my golf swing is I like to feel like a trigger point.
So this is my swing thought I like to use.
So I like to use a trigger of jamming my right ankle into the ground.
You're not gonna be able to see my feet because I'm standing close or back here with you guys.
So I like to push down on my right ankle and that's my starting point to my swing.
Maybe yours is different.
Maybe you feel like you need to get a little bit of wrist set, maybe you feel like you need to get a little bit of body turn.
Maybe you need to feel something in the bottom half.
To know that you're making the best swing that you possibly can, whatever it might be.
But what I want you to do is I want you to start making an 80 speed swing, maybe a little bit less, almost in full swing territory.
And I want you to be visualizing the shot that you're trying to hit distance wise, and the shot and the swing, you're trying to visualize the swing that you're using.
To make it happen, you're actually looking at yourself making that swing and making the ball fly.
It might seem ridiculous, just do it.
It makes things a lot easier for you.
I promise.
Okay, so here's how I do things.
So now I've got my distance, I'm hitting a 170 shot here at 150 up the hill.
Okay, now, what I'm going to do is I'm going to visualize that because I'm going to hit it a little bit.
On the lower side is my setup might change a little bit.
I'm hitting a kind of a flighted ball, but you're going to see me make an 80 speed swing where I'm actually coming down.
I'm going to try to hold the face a little bit now.
How many of you watch golf on TV and have seen?
When Tiger Woods was in his heyday, when he was getting ready to hit a cup, what did he do?
Well, if you ever watched it, he would get up to the top and then he would go like that, right?
He would make these wild swings right where he's swinging way left and holding the face off.
Why did he do that?
Because he's trying to feel something and visualize something that's a little bit different than what he's normally doing.
Under stock shot format.
Does a swing ever look like this?
When he's hitting a shot?
Well, I mean, we've seen some pretty crazy shots from him, right?
but under, like a normal cut shot, no, it doesn't look that severe again.
That's what he's doing, that's what all of those guys are doing.
I promise you, okay, I've been out there.
I've got some pretty close friends that play at a high level.
And that's the whole process that they go through in order to get themselves cleared out.
Now, my pre-shot routine includes two practice swings it has since I was 12 years old.
I've done the same two practice swings since I was 12 years old.
Where I will stand back there.
I make 80 speed swings, I hover the club off the ground and I make the swings that I'm trying to feel.
I'm visualizing the shots now, here's the fun part.
Once I've gotten myself that good visual process in place, the shot.
I'm trying to hit the the visual of my swing.
I'm keeping those two things, the shot and the visual of my swing, producing that shot in my brain.
And now I'm walking in past the trust line as soon as I cross over this line and I'm getting ready to hit the golf ball if I think anything at all.
And I mean anything.
Away from the shot that you just visualized and the swing that you visualize to produce that shot, you get out of dodge, you start this process all over now.
I know a lot of you at home.
oops.
I know a lot of you at home.
Hate slow play, I hate it, too.
Florida, I'm telling you right now, from about November to Easter, I saw somebody from the villages.
You can vouch for this.
It sucks to play golf here because everybody and their brother from all the cold places in the United States comes here to play golf.
And they hike up their rates and then you go out there and play five and a half, six hour rounds for prices that they just don't make any sense.
Golf courses get really proud of themselves, so you don't need to go out there and start this process and start working on this particular event on the golf course.
Right away.
You can actually start doing this on the drive range.
How many of you at home have ever practiced on the range with a pre-shot routine before you hit golf shots?
How many of you have ever gone through this process?
I could bet you, probably not a lot of you, I bet you, a smaller percentage than you might think in this room.
Have ever gone out to the range and gone through their pre-shot routine every time you hit a golf ball?
Why?
why don't we do that?
because it's boring, right?
It's boring, it's boring.
We want to get out there and bash the golf ball, right?
I get it, I watch, I watch so many people.
They get put a ball down, all right, they're ready to go all right, next ball, bring it in here.
I gotta feel something here, all right, all right.
Is that what you do on the golf course?
Well, you might.
Maybe you play that fast, maybe you have no preparation, but you can start this process on the drive range.
Fortunately enough, the driving range gives us lots of targets, we have range finders, lots of driving ranges.
Actually have those yardages all figured out for you?
Maybe you start out by hitting some, hitting a wedge shot at the closest target, and then you look at a different target.
You don't have to use their targets out there.
You can pick little, small patches of grass as well and look at the distance for it.
And then you're trying to go through this whole process.
Use the trust line.
Now, there's a caveat to this.
If your swing is in a position where you don't know that, it can produce something of quality for you.
Where you know that.
Hey, I've got to do more reps to get it to a position where I know it's going to be good enough to play.
And I know that's really subjective because a lot of you guys hold yourself to these expectations that you should be tour stars like ball striking maniacs.
When you got to remember this is a game of misses, it's okay to miss it, right?
You want to learn how to manage your misses.
So if you have your golf swing in a good spot and you want to start trying to get your rounds to be more enjoyable.
Then stop thinking so technical all the time.
Give yourself a break, take a break and work on the processes of preparation, and then learn how to start working on execution.
That's why I love talking about this so much, because I'll be honest with you, when people start doing this, I see such a positive impact on their game that it's it's amazing and it makes the game more, more fun.
How many get like, like, almost question, like, if their husbands or wives are even going to stay with them.
Because you're so angry when you get home from golf, I know a lot of you at home are like, that's me, right.
Why are you getting so upset?
What I want you to start doing is I want you to start thinking about your success on the golf course.
Not through your score right away or how you hit the golf ball, but think about how you execute it, how your processes work.
Think about you're going to start working like a tour pro.
That's what they do, that's all of the work.
That's why you see them going through yardage books, they're looking at certain numbers.
I can't tell you how important that stuff is, getting it down to the smallest yardage possible.
That's why people ask me, like, how far do you hit?
A seven iron?
Like, Well, my stock seven iron is going to go 177, right?
Stock seven iron is going to go that far.
For me, why do I know it was 177?
Well, because I've dialed that in, right?
It might be a little bit less now because I'm a little bit fat and out of shape.
But bear with me, right?
But why do I have it dialed into that number anyways?
Well, if it goes 180, that's three yards, right?
that's nine feet, that's nine added feet.
If you watch the best players in the world, or even players that play at a high skill set.
Myself and Craig.
If you were to go out and play golf with either one of us right now, guess what we would do?
We would have really, really good front to back dispersion.
Well, Chris, what does that mean?
Front to back dispersion is just a good barometer as to how we're hitting the golf ball, right?
That's why, if you go out there and watch the best of the best, they're hitting their distances very close.
Yeah, they have side to side dispersion, just like you and I.
We miss it.
But you'll see that they're usually in the same quadrant as far as front to back.
A lot of them will okay.
Now.
This process is how I want you to start getting this stuff to the golf courses.
I want you to start going through this on the driving range.
Until you can start moving through it pretty quickly, right?
So if I were to go back through that whole process with you, I'll.
I'll show you the speed in which I work at.
So I get out of the cart, I'll gun the yard.
It's 150 okay, looking at the wind, it's off the right a little bit, so it's all right.
I'm starting to figure this out, I kind of look at it again, all right, I'm going to feel a 170 shot.
I'm moving in, so I'm going through the processes now, hitting my little chip kind of cut shot.
Okay, I usually do that little step over with my leg, I don't know why.
I've always done that.
And then as soon as I commit to my visual and the feel, I walk in and I'm gone.
That didn't take long, okay, that didn't take long at all.
If you go out there on the on the golf course and you're playing with your playing partners, you're going to drive them crazy.
They probably won't be your playing partners anymore.
Because to take the commitment that I'm telling you to take, to go in there past this line and not think technical anymore.
And just visualize the shot that you're trying to hit, and visualizing the swing that you're going to make.
To make that shot happen is way harder than it sounds because you guys always get in your own way.
Now, as I said to you at the start, we have a second question that we need to answer because we get this question all the time.
Why do my swing changes never show up on the golf course?
How many times have you played golf with a person?
They have this really, really nice practice swing, but then you get in and they get into the golf ball.
Hey, how many of them?
Well, I bet one of you in this room actually does it.
Why does that happen?
Do you know?
I'm going to tell you right now, this is probably another thing that you're not going to like.
So the first thing you're not going to like is the girl that you brought to the dance or the boy that you brought to the dance is the one that you're stuck with?
The second thing is is that you haven't been practicing properly.
You have to start challenging your subconscious to know that it can do these movements, movements with the golf ball in front of it.
Regardless if you succeed, regardless if that fear comes in, think about that.
That was the first answer I got was fear of failure, lack of trust.
What do you?
what do you?
what are you?
what are you failing at?
If you miss the golf ball but you're doing your movements correct, wouldn't it be back on your golf instructor or back on camera?
For us to figure out why you're not hitting the golf ball with great success?
After we told you to get a certain move, right?
That's what you have to think about is that you have to start challenging your subconscious earlier in this process.
You have to, you have to start putting a golf ball down.
Stop worrying about the result.
You're on, you're on the driving range, you're on.
well, don't start on the driving range, right?
If you're working on change, start in a net, I have this net, I think it's called a rucker rocket.
It was like, 180 bucks on Amazon.
Pops open drives my wife crazy because I don't like to.
I don't like to put it away as much as I I need to.
So, um, but it pops open.
You get a little mat with it and you can set your camera up and you can start working on hitting balls.
That's a good starting point, in fact, you can actually hit plastic balls or foam balls into it.
Why?
But because you'd be very surprised.
And I'm doing this with a couple of my students right now.
To see how much more stress it is to have a plastic ball versus a regular golf ball.
Test it out.
It's crazy, it sucks because you'll just see how far along in the ingraining process you are.
So if you follow that level of progression, you say, all right.
I've got my foam balls working pretty good, my swing looks good, got the real golf ball flying into a net, I'm gonna take it out to the driving range.
Keep your expectations low, go out there and go through the trust line, go through the pre-shot routine, let your golf swing come out and stop fighting with the technical side.
You're not going to be able to change it out there.
All you can do is commit to what you just worked your butt off on.
That's all you can do.
I promise you, you can go out there, try to hit balls and try to change it.
But bring back the iPad and it's going to look exactly the same, it's going to okay.
So, with that said, hopefully you guys now have a very clear understanding as to how you're going to start working on.
Trusting your golf swing, develop a pre-shot routine go and get yourself prepared by looking at what you're trying to get done on the golf course.
As far as what's what you're facing, everything's going to be a little bit different.
You're always facing something different.
Okay, clear out your brain, trust the process, trust your golf swing enough to where you can just start visualizing your shot, visualizing your swing.
Step in there and stop trying to hit the golf ball.
Do the best you can, bring those visuals to light.
And I guarantee it, and I hope you guys do this.
If you start going through this process and you find that you're getting some great success, send me a note.
My email is Chris at rotary swing.
com send me a note and let me know the success that you got with it if you find that you went out there and your preparation is not great then don't email me because i don't want to hear about it i'm just kidding if you don't if you don't get success with it and you know that you're clear it out then there possibly is some sort of mechanical or fundamental flaw in your golf swing that's not able to produce what you're looking for just yet that's where we can step back in and we can help you so it's not like i'm cutting the rope and saying get the hell out of here we need to figure out how to make your golf swing productive when it's under the gun and it's ready to start going and start trusting this visual and this execution process once and for all now with that being said i know you guys get a lot of questions and like i said to you guys at the start this is i want to have an open discussion about this okay let's not stay here all night because i know you guys have mash or whatever to watch mash that's not even a good example sorry that's in my brain because i've been filming videos recently craig will vouch for this um and there's where the the golf course that i've been teaching at and filming they have helicopter tours and every time i get ready to do a take a helicopter flies over my head and it you it drowns out the sound i have a really good funny outtakes video that i should let you guys see in fact you'll see it on the sooner side so hopefully you guys enjoy the information if you guys have any questions or you guys want to talk a little bit about some things that you may have done personally or something that um you just want to address that might help you or may help the rest of us then post that up all right i'm here to to listen in and to communicate back and forth with you guys um also remember if you guys need further assistance on this stuff myself and craig love to help you guys i see one of my students already posting something here at the bottom charles he's been a long time student my great guy fantastic student of the game okay we're here to help you in this process so don't feel alone right so if you need a swing review get it in for a swing review if you need a live lesson get it in for a live lesson we'll we're here to do the thing all right craig has got one of the best best eyes in the business with this stuff you and i work very close with each other to to bring you guys the information that you need so that you stop sucking at golf got it all right for those of you that don't want to stick around hopefully you guys have a great night um and just remember that you will get access to the replay of this video because we're making some changes in the back end it might not come right away so bear with us you know don't beat up our customer support they're they're working hard in there you'll get notification when that recording comes back to you and then you will see some process changes that are going to be for the better i'll make it a little bit more seamless for you so that you can check in and out of the the future rsa live webinars that we're going to be doing moving forward um and as always if you have any suggestions on topics that you'd like to talk about maybe we just do a session where it's just q a right where we talk about anything like talk about phil mickelson let's not talk about that right all right so fireside chat yeah absolutely so how to deal oh so i'm going to start with charles first if we are still repping and change do we try to feel in the prep zone and forget about what we approach the ball so yes exactly so but minimize it don't think about too many things back here in the prep zone i like that word for it thank you so prep zone being back here behind the line this is your go zone right so prep zone go zone yeah so back here you can do a little bit of the the thinking of what you're working on okay but still make it a golf swing don't be out there like okay i gotta chris told me i gotta do this dead drill stuff i gotta have you know my wrist doing this yada yada okay keep it simple in the golf course keep it simple in the range if you need a couple little thoughts you can do it if that helps you create your visual of your swing i'm all for it so uh tom thank you so much for the for the uh the kind words there i appreciate it how to deal with my disappointing result when you go through this procedure so great question you're gonna you're gonna hit bad shots we all hit bad shots i hit bad shots craig hits bad shots chuck hits bad shots you've got to put that stuff out of your brain because again it's just going to continue to compound and make it worse and you're going to press to try to find something that's not there okay or that's already there all you can do is go back through your processes you're going to have rounds of golf tom that are going to be miserable you're going to just bottom line i've been around i've played golf 34 of my 39 years in existence we have really good long streaks of golf and we've got streaks that go why did i even play this game in the first place every single one of us has been there so it's about managing your expectations okay and managing yourself and keeping yourself committed to this process right when you go out there and you hit a bad shot maybe you only hit it three feet in front of you okay if you're continuous to hit it three feet in front of you sell your clubs no i'm just kidding just know that there's probably some sort of fundamental flaw in there right that's that's big that we need to start moving you away from we need to help you understand what your misses would be this is something i do with students all the time this is something i take very serious is i help you start understanding what your miss really is fat shot thin shot a hook cut what it is that's specific in your body movements that's causing that to happen why well because then when you get back on the golf course and you just hit a fat shot now your prep zone stuff your prep zone can start having that little feel to move yourself away from it that feel that's the new visual and the new feel of the movement that you're going to create that shot chip with it's a great question all right so patrick in the house patrick i was going to use you as an example tonight because i know we talked about you specifically with like a little wrist movement and you gave me something that felt like it was way on the end of the follow-through but you were doing the movement correct and i was like that's it i need to get people to understand that if it looks right on camera i don't care how your brain processes it okay if it's if it looks right and it's producing what we're looking for more power to you so patrick nice to see you hopefully you're doing well bud chris what do you recommend as the most effective trigger point in starting the swing that is hold on i don't know why it's recording me the most effective trigger point that's subjective so i like to use and i think chuck uses this one i'm not sure about craig but what you'll notice if you ever play golf with me okay okay is my first move is i push my right ankle into the ground it's actually i get towards my heel so i push down the ground that's my trigger a lot of you have probably heard me teach that why well because what starts a golf swing weight shift right weight shift first so it's always been my trigger now i will tell you i will i i will be honest with you and tell you that when i'm not playing a lot of golf like now i'm in a span of my life right now where i'm not playing as much as i'd like to or as much as i used to that i know that my hands and my arms are going to be a little bit more active in rounds of golf and i i fight that off with a thought of my left leg so i use a right leg left leg sort of mentality i have to feel the inductors on my lead leg and i have to feel them in the post up or in transition to post up before i can feel my hands arms past my body otherwise i know my arms are raised that's just what i use so that's what i would at what point will the swing appearance start to improve at what point will the swing appearance start to improve that's a good question so that's up to you right the swing appearance is going to improve based off of how you work on things so you need to go out there and you need to put the work in you need to get the repetitions done and you need to make sure that you you push yourself to move past just going into static format right so many people get out there and just go into static positions golf is not about positions golf is about movement it's moving through positions so you need to get it to a point where you're moving through and making it look like you want it to and then that's when you want to start putting it to the test you want to start getting the golf ball there and we can help you with that so if you haven't gone through a swing review process with us then definitely get it in for a swing review and this is one thing that i will talk to you guys about tonight and i probably don't need to mention this but i'm going to is that when you're in the swing review process that's a customized process specific to you we can talk to you about things maybe you have heard never heard before we can keep you away from watching endless videos and get you focused on a core group of videos that are going to help you specifically that's the whole point so if you need help getting it to look better in a whatever time frame you're looking for then get it in for review let us let us help you walk through the process both craig and i have spots open in our groups okay all right same pre-shot routine for putting in short game no you can change this is not something that is i would consider static my i'll give you my short i'll give you my chipping technique first or my chipping pitching so i had this big i was superstitious because i used to chip in a lot when i was a kid because i had to because i didn't hit a lot of greens because i was i was trying to hit it out of the woods so i had to make three small practice swings brush in the grass all three times perfectly before i would execute that was it that was so i never stood behind the ball i i started to a little bit as i got a little bit older so i'd start back here and look at the shot and then i would come in and then i would do three practice swings in here trying to feel it that's just something i did putting i make three practice strokes the first two that i make i i actually swing the putter back and forth three times on the first two i keep my eyes down on the ball the third one i actually look on the line that i'm trying to get the ball started on that's my pre-shot routine everybody can be a little bit different so think about your your shot and your prep zone stuff it's kind of like your swagger right watch like go out there and just watch what they're doing don't so much watch the shots that they're hitting right away watch all the prep work that they're doing to get ready to hit the shot it's fascinating listen to how they're talking to one another jordan's feet and his caddy are awesome to listen to right there's a lot of talking back and forth and there's actually a lot of caddy player relationships that are like that all of that is is getting them to see the number that they're trying to get to and they're trying to hit the they're trying to visualize the shot that they're trying to do and they're using the swing to make that happen okay not trying to hit it otherwise they would be doomed all right so mitchell my pleasure sir aloha for your practice swing do you try and catch the turf that would stimulate actual or simulate actual and i said stimulate actual impact um i don't personally you can um i don't know why i never i think it was probably because i just didn't want to take a big divot and get dirt all over my club and that's i'm just going to give my honest answer um i'll see people take some very deliberate practice swings and take big pieces of turf and you've got now you got to fill three divots in four divots however many practice swings you take and then you're pissing the whole golf course off behind you because they're watching it so i never have i make a golf swing again the the movement that i'm doing back here is just kind of visualizing the swing that i'm going to use with a little bit of a feel of something that maybe i've i've taken to the golf course like i said like my right foot and my left leg so i'm doing that and then if i need some if i'm trying to flight it then obviously then i'm working on what my left wrist is doing okay so brush the grass is fine yeah you can brush the grass if that's something that works for you all right so if you watch again i'll show you the practice swings a little bit closer here so when i stand behind it so you're going to see me kind of loose flowing and my feet are moving okay all right and then i'm in and go mode so it's 80 speed swing 280 speed swings actually i feel like that second swing is a little bit faster but you see me moving a little bit more than what i would actually when i stand over the golf ball a little bit more static in there doesn't mean that that's what's going to work for you right this is where you have to be able to to to kind of develop something that's going to be best for you what do you need to feel how many how many practice reps do you need to do to get the the feel and the the the visual process of your swing together maybe sometimes it's three or four swings i wouldn't suggest trying to go more than three or four okay like you're literally going to set yourself up for people hunting you down golf is a sport where people are getting really sensitive about pace of play okay all right so a couple more questions and i'm gonna let you guys go looks like questions are actually winding down so i think you guys are probably had enough of me for the night so i want to say special thank you to craig for hanging out in the chat with me craigs we got i think we got a boot camp coming up that craig's going to be the host of craig and i have worked our butts off together to refine that program it's awesome now so i know he's going to do a great job uh he just gave an awesome presentation on the release last week so if you guys haven't seen that check it out all right thank you charles thank you glenn thank you patrick bob everybody nice to see you guys you guys are the best students in the world i love working with you guys because of your inquisitive minds and i love being able to help you guys get out there on the golf course enjoy this stuff so go get out there work on this stuff have some fun with it remember this is not something that's static it's not you using my routine it's just using the preparation tools and developing your own sort of style with it and you're going to find that now golf is not about being technical on the golf course golf is out there trying to reproduce what you already know how to do and just letting the ball fly and it's just it's a different world it's more fun that way okay bob thank you barbara thank you guys very much tony always good to see you samson michael thank you very much robert thank you all right guys and gals get out there trust your swing use the trust line and we'll see you soon you
