Session 4 - Follow me as I continue to practice my Phase 2 working on balancing out proper posting with release and tightening my dispersion. I also clarify some of the thoughts you may have on swing plane and head movement during the Phase 2 movement.
Hello everyone and welcome back to another session of Phase two.
I hope everyone's doing well today.
And what we're going to explore is another set of 10 from face on and a set of 10 from down the line.
And I want to apologize about my last session.
The down the line audio cut out and I try to do a little bit of a voiceover, but it it kind of came out a little bit too comical, so I decided to leave it out.
And I'll make sure that today's audio from down the line works.
But before I get started on my journey today, which this is going to be my first two sets, I decided instead of kind of doing the kind of middle set and the end set, when I've had a little bit of work in, I wanted to throw in the beginning set.
Just how does everything look starting out my session?
Before we venture into that, though, I want to clarify two things that I mentioned in my last video.
And I think some of it got a little bit misconstrued and I want to get that clarification out there.
When it comes to shallowing out in phase two, or in this small nine to three motion, you don't need a whole lot of shallow, okay?
So as you're working from this position and you start to come down, we don't need to be coming from way too far from the inside.
It's a small motion.
There's not a whole lot of rotation that goes into this, or you don't want to have a whole lot of face rotation because it's a very short swing.
Some players when I was talking about the axiom in the last lesson, they started going a little bit to the other end of the spectrum, where they started down this way.
And then they started trying to shallow it out.
But now they started kind of getting almost behind their butt here with the club and they started getting into those drop kicks.
This needs to be coming in from a shallow plane, but it's not that dramatic for such a small motion.
So when you're thinking of the axiom to shallow out your little nine to three motion right here, it's a very tiny clockwise circle.
We only need a little bit of this motion before we start working into the strike.
Because the plane and path is going to be pretty zeroed out.
As we work through here.
You don't need to go all the way to a giant extreme, to where you're dropping the club behind you.
The second thing is is with the head now, the head and the golf swing will not stay perfectly static.
Now I know that we have the sway draw on the website and we talk about all the time.
How you don't want to be moving your head too much back and too much through, because you don't want all this excess lateral motion and the odds of hitting the sweet spot, how they dramatically drop.
But the head in this motion will have to move a little bit now, a little bit isn't three, four inches.
This way.
I'm shifting my weight into my trail side, and because my whole body is kind of starting to load into this trail side.
You may see my head move just a little bit off the golf ball, about a half inch, maybe an inch, depending on how aggressive I'm getting.
But it's no more than that.
It's only the amount that I've kind of moved my weight over to this side.
And when I start to go back to the lead side, my head is going to return back to that address position.
I don't want any dramatic hanging back, uh, creating too much secondary tilt, but I don't want the hanging back.
Due to the fact that.
Well, Craig said, it was okay for my head to move, it is okay to move.
You're moving weight in this backswing portion, but that doesn't mean I'm giving you freedom to move.
A whole head width.
Okay, so the head, it's allowed to move a little bit, but a little bit, no extreme on this head motion.
So, with that being said, let's get to work here.
I will confess I have hit about four or five shots just to loosen up, I don't want to tear anything.
Lower lumbar left side today's a little bit tight, so I just wanted to make just a couple, just to kind of do it.
Do I know what I'm doing today?
Or, uh, should I, should I turn around?
And abort mission?
Okay, hope everyone's well joined the series.
So far, I've gotten lots of good notes in the comments of.
You know what players have been seeing in my move and what they think I should be doing to kind of clean some things up.
I've had some comments on the difference in my practice swing and the difference in my, uh, pacing and tempo, the difference in my trail foot, difference in my lead hand.
I like it, keep it coming all right now.
It's kind of hard to be your own coach.
Sometimes I've gotten some really good info from that.
But I like how critical we can nice little I can like a today stay shot I might have to celebrate tonight.
That was a big win.
Don't know how the move looked, but the the strike felt good.
But that one went right down my line.
We finally got it, huh?
I might take a vacation day now, all right, well, that feels good to get that monkey off my back.
So now what we're going to do is we're going to do a little bit of session down the line.
I'm still going to talk to you a little bit of the those two points that I was talking to you about with the head and the axiom, with the shallowing.
Because I just want to make sure, just in case this wall was kind of blocking my motion.
I want to make sure that we're all on the same page about that.
And we'll do another set of 10.
Maybe I can go two for two, okay, so down the line now after celebrating my first 10 for 10.
Took a little, took a little break there, and so you've got it.
You've got to enjoy the moment sometimes, you got to enjoy the little wins.
All right now, as I talked to you about before.
And we U.
S.
golfers, we get down on ourselves pretty easily, so when you do something well, give yourself a thumbs up.
Before I do this set, though, I want to elaborate on those two points that I made from the face on about the axiom shallowing and the head motion.
So from the down the line, this motion for shallow into a nine to three, which you'll see in my motion, it only needs to be a little bit.
You may feel like it's moving this big.
And that actually can be very helpful when we start doing longer swings, but for this size shape swing, it's just a tiny clockwise motion, just a tiny clockwise motion.
I don't want to see that.
The second thing comes back with that head.
If my head goes this far off the golf ball and then I shift my lower half laterally, what's going to happen with that swing plane as well?
My head's going to move this way, I'm going to drive on my lower half, it's going to increase my secondary tilt.
And now I'm going to start drop kicking it way behind the golf ball because it's going to shallow up my club too much.
So it's okay for a little bit of head motion, but let's stay away from the dramatics all right.
Now that we got the warnings out of the way, let's get back to work.
Boy, that was close, though.
I feel like Johnny in the booth right now.
Because I want to say it was just a groove low, that's exactly what it was.
It was just a little groove low on that one, wasn't that bad.
You can probably see it on camera.
I mean, it was a tiny little push, it's just a little bit low on that face.
Felt a little tension in my lead hand, I felt like I had to add just a little bit more right to get back to the golf ball.
Just a little bit too much tension there, there we go.
That was better head down, lead, leg straight.
You can see that outer edge of my trail foot, I can go with that.
Let's see.
Get my ammo all right back on the horse.
A couple more practice swings just keep that tension out there we go.
You can see the difference in that lower half.
Just stays a little bit quieter, buys just a little bit more time for that club to come through.
Get it releasing over, you get the different sound in it, get that preferred ball flight.
That's a little bit more what I'm looking for.
Oh, that was really good, that was really good.
I'll take that one.
It's high.
It was getting a little hot out here.
Now it's nice and cool this morning, about 54 55 when I first got outside.
Now that sun's up there, a little bit of a warmer fall day.
Oh, that was really good, really toned that one down, I'll take that one.
Hey, if I start getting more of these sets with quality shots, I might graduate before 2024.
Foot, hip, leg, you can see, my club's definitely released, it's at least toe up if we are slightly toe down.
Not going to bother, not going to hurt my feelings, keep the back loose, all right, right down my line.
Good strike on it, proper height on the face versus that first one, which is about a groove too low, we can take that one.
Just keep laying this foundation.
It's like I was talking to a student this morning, uh, in my unlimited review group.
And we're, you know, discussing the different size, shape of the swing, etc.
But the the groundwork that we're trying to lay for his move right now, I said, everything just right here, below the belt, I, I can kind of get away.
I mess up a little bit here there, especially for my swing.
But if we get this foundational part.
And if you're getting from this kind of hip high motion to here, and you're really firing on all cylinders during that window, it's going to be hard to have a bad day like that.
I like that we can take that one, all right, two to go, let's finish strong here.
We're going to feel a little weight, some rotation, a little shift and post we're going to get a nice clean nja, nice, safe position for that hip.
Now I got a little quick so you can see the ball flight on camera still went dead straight.
But you could probably hear that was a little thin and that literally.
I kind of had a little precursor on that, where I said, get strong hip, get into that neutral joint alignment position.
And I just rushed it so I got a little bit spinny with it.
Probably opened up just a little bit more through the shot, so that that fulcrum point, raising just a little bit thin on it.
Now it's just from being too quick, it's not that big a motion.
I need to have my weight and post deliver the club.
I just got a little bit quick with that rushing, trying to get that hip position, all right.
So we at least got to get a par on this, folks at least got to get a par grade on this.
I can take that one, that one had that kind of, uh, phase one feel to me, where I had that little bit of that.
That paintbrush kind of drag effect with the lead.
Whereas my arm started working down here, just had that little bit of bowing through there and that nice little paintbrush feel to it.
I will take that one, so for now, what I'm going to do is I'm going to get a couple more reps in.
I'm probably going to go ahead and look at some film on my camera just to kind of see how my move's doing.
To make sure if I need to kind of tweak anything.
When I go home, take an assessment of it and we'll talk about it.
We'll see if I'm getting better, we'll see if I'm getting worse and I might have to have a celebratory drink tonight.
10 for 10.
i'm finally off the schneid so i'll see you at the range next time and i look forward to seeing how y'all's progress is going at home
