The first submission of Bryan's trail hand putting work. You'll see some practice, the submission to Craig for review, Craigs review and Bryan's thoughts of the review!

all right so here we go to uh part one basically uh in the last one you got to see a full swing kind of an intro to the the program that we're all going through um you got to see craig's review of my full swing for a starting point and so now here we go with the very first part of uh putting which is a trail hand putting um i did not go through and video you know the grip the ball position that kind of stuff i think that stuff is pretty self-explanatory um and didn't want to bore the hell out of everybody watching me go through a grip and set up um even though with the unlimited swing review stuff i could have done that and turned that in um you know i think everybody can kind of get that uh by by looking in a mirror and going through it so um trail hand putting um so you know as you can see on the screen right now um this is a face-on view uh you know of of trail hand putting uh you know kind of the checkpoints you know in that or a ball position you know off the end step uh supinated uh in you know in piece of the of your forearm um so you can kind of see that's going on here camera angle is a little bit weird uh i messed around with it a few different times trying to you know get it square on i get it you know it looks like i get it square on when i'm when i'm out there and then you come back and you look at the video and you're still at an angle so uh either angles just aren't my strong suit or or the camera just you know doesn't doesn't want to act right uh so you can see that here uh ball position or uh eye position you can't really see in this shot uh but it's you know just over the ball or off the inside of of the ball so we'll go ahead and uh let this play a little bit and we'll go back and through so you know you can see there you know the arm is trying to keep that that elbow pit supinated uh you know facing toward the camera uh you can kind of see that that you know that stays that way the entire time uh going back and through that so this is about probably a six six and a half foot putt even though you can't see see it on this one but you'll be see you'll be able to see it on the on the down the line one um kind of same thing really kind of try to pay attention to you know in between each stroke not to you just rake balls you know one after the other uh i'm sure all of us kind of have that habit uh so really trying to focus on on keeping things you know proper basically again you know ball position being correct uh that elbow pit supinated facing out toward the camera uh eye position basically over the ball or inside the ball a little bit and then on to the next one so if you saw there's that little forward press you know chuck talks about that now this is a lab putter so it does have a you know two degree built-in forward press to it um i really like this putter um you know but it's got a built-in forward press so that forward press probably won't be as significant or as noticeable i guess you'd say uh as you know if you're rolling with a scotty cameron or a zebra or an odyssey or whatnot it doesn't have that you know built-in forward press to it but you can see it a little bit you know back and through and basically all i'm trying to do there is you know that you notice that other arm is going kind of like with it almost like a you know kind of like an elephant trunk so to speak and that's just me trying to get the you know the shoulders rocking and if i can get both arms going at once you know then then it kind of gives me that feeling for it bring in one more you know again trying to make sure that the you know the ball stays in the same position elbow pitch supinated eyes are you know just over the ball or inside of it let it rip you know trying to make sure everything stays connected you know and rolls through that way so all right on to the face on so here you get the face on uh again i guess it's probably about a six six and a half foot or somewhere in there um you can see uh you know my eyes are are just over the the outside part of the or i guess the inside part of the ball closest to my feet um inside of that ball position you know over there off off the left end step and we'll rock a few here so again you can kind of see that you know i didn't just rake the next ball over and pulled it over try to pull it over you know get my get my feet set get the uh you know the ball position correct uh you know get my eyes man make sure this trail you know this trail arm stays supinated same thing again so not you know not bad there um i don't really have much to say about it to be honest with you that's why i'm going to turn it in to craig and let craig do his review um things that i've noticed myself uh not a lot of trail uh hand you know wrist break i know chuck talks about you know letting the you know letting the wrist you know kind of hinge and unhinge even though it's very subtle um i don't really have any of that going on this is all more pure kind of shoulders and whatnot i think um and that's just me focusing on trying to keep this elbow pit you know pointing toward the target and the easiest way for me to do that is to you know basically use the you know the shoulders so to speak so um i will imagine that craig will say something about that um in that because as you can see going back there really isn't much uh wrist hinge at all that wrist kind of stays pretty straight so uh let's see what he says hello brian rotary swing tour instructor craig morrow here i hope all is well today and thanks for sending this review our way and i see that you're working on the trail hand only putting drill fantastic if we want to proceed through the goat code correctly we've got to make sure that we nail these elements very early on in the system and i've got a couple things that i want you to focus on that are going to get this drill to check all the boxes that way as you progress you don't have to go back and kind of get that work corrected so a couple things i want to mention when we look at the left hand side of the screen as you start to take the club back from here you're very stiff now maintaining control isn't a bad thing all right yeah that's not the worst thing in the world we need to have some pressure in that trail hand especially in the proper placement but what's tending to happen is that you're keeping so much tension in your trail wrist right here that it's not being allowed to kind of swing a little bit it's not being allowed to move into a little bit of extension and have some feel to it because the wrist is actually going to hinge back on itself just a little bit and have a little bit more of a release through this should be a little bit softer in this arena and so what you'll notice that you tend to stay a little bit stiff right here and then as you start to come down i want you to watch your eyes in the moment of truth which is the strike of the ball notice how your eyes and your head are moving immediately with the connection of the strike and so what ends up happening here is you start to get a lot of putter face rotation on the way through and that's just because you're doing the proverbial you know i want to see where this thing goes so i'm following it and so you get a lot of face rotation as you start to come through so when you combine the early i call peekaboo eyes the early peekaboo with the extra tension in the wrist you end up adding more rotation towards the face which is going to cause some inconsistencies in the strike we look at the second one here we're getting set up you've got that trail arm supinated we can see that that trail hand is in a strong position but same thing we start to take the club back it's just a little bit stiff right here and then immediately as you make your strike you can see you're falling where that ball goes okay so you end up having a lot of rotation in that face on the way through and you made the putt i'm glad that you made the putt but i want to make sure that the release in this stroke isn't going to cause any timing issues down the road because you're adding more to it than needs to be if we look at the face on let me wind this back what i want you to notice is that as you go back you'll see that your trail wrist hardly moves okay hardly moves so as you start to come down it stays very stiff but look at that face right there look at that face rotating right there now you did a little bit better job with the eyes and head on the face on so you can see on this one the eyes did a little bit better right there they waited till that putter was off but we're still getting a lot of rotation right here and to me you're just adding a little bit of element of stiffness and that's what we need to correct is you've got to soften this up a little bit you got to let the putter work for you i want you to take a look at this image over here of chuck at setup let me actually wind this back right here the first thing that i want you to notice is look at how much more relaxed he is now i want that trail arm in a supinated position staying straight but you see how he's a little bit more in a relaxed position where there's a little bit of extension in the wrist right here and the arm's kind of hanging just a little bit more naturally from here if you lock everything out too much with the putting you're not going to get the proper swing with it and this wrist right here needs to be allowed to hinge back a little bit and release on the way through so when you set up with this deadlocked arm where everything just is inflection the trail elbows and supination everything's just overly locked out yes we can use our core but the problem is you're going to lose a little feel a little sensitivity as the putter tries to swing and release and what i want you to be able to have a sensation of is that the putter is doing a little bit of the work on its own for you so to imagine this imagine what would happen if you added just a little bit of forward press right here what would happen you would start to get just a little bit of extension in this trail wrist right here okay so if you're right here and you add just a little bit of forward shaft lean a little bit of forward press and that started to work into a little bit of extension and then you can even allow for it to increase a little bit as you move back that way when you start to swing down you can release it and it's going to feel almost like it has a little bit of hinge back and then a little bit of release through but this motion is going to allow this putter face to stay a little square now i haven't seen this putter before and putters have different designs some are face balance some are very heel toe balance where they want to rotate you know a little bit and even with the differences in putters at this length of putt and this almost looks a little bit like a face balance putter to me you don't want that much rotation and to me it's because you're you're getting overly controlled with it i think that if we balance out the setup a little bit you keep the elbow supinated but allow yourself to get into a position where it's just a little bit more in that flexion hinge position with the wrist i think everything's just too straight and a little bit overly locked out and when making the stroke i want you to kind of think about that forward press that if you're to allow for a little bit of forward press and soften up the wrist a little bit the wrist would start to move into a little bit more of extension and then it would release a little bit more as it goes into flexion but as you do that this putter face is going to be allowed to stay square and if you combine that with the eyes staying here then we're going to be cooking with gas okay one of the things that you know i really admire about tiger's putting is how well his eyes and head stay where the ball was almost the old wait till you hear it drop in the hole kind of adage to it so you almost have this things look really really good i think if we get that arm supinated or excuse me the trail elbow supinated and we get it where it's just a little bit more relaxed we soften up just a little bit of the wrist so we allow it to hinge back a little bit so it can release on the way through and we can slow down a little bit of the extra rotation or the over rotation of the face coming through it's going to get the putter swinging just a little bit more straight back straight through it's going to give you a little bit more feel a little bit more feedback in the release and overall make this putting drill much more consistent all right so there we have that uh you just saw craig's review um and and honestly this this is why these reviews are so important i think i mean we're at the very beginning stages of going through this uh and in my opinion i mean that review already just paid for itself uh because i would not have picked up on on all of those things uh looking back at you know looking back at the video now you know you can see the you can kind of see the head moving uh as it goes through the stroke that's not something that you know that i picked up on uh prior to the the the lack of of you know the wrist uh hinging and unhinging so to speak um that part i caught um you know the arm being so straight um again i kind of thought he might say something about that because when you watch you know when you watch actual videos chuck's elbow is a little bit bit uh it's not so rigid basically um uh face rotation you know not really something that that you know i thought about it too much you know staring at this looking at it uh you know the butt's going in the damn hole um but obviously you know making uh you know making moves or motions or whatnot to kind of compensate for for what's actually excuse me going on there so uh back to you know back to practicing um you know obviously there's things that need to get fixed things to get work on different things to focus on um and so you know before i put all these reps in there i want to make sure that it's correct so i'll go back and you know focus on some of these things uh videotape some more and turn it back in you know for a swing review to make sure that i've got it right uh and yeah that's the whole point of having the unlimited reviews if they're unlimited i'm going to use them uh because there's no point spending all this time going through everything and whatnot and then uh and not having it right but uh just off of this first review i mean i can already see how important you of these reviews are going to be to make sure that everything is is dialed in so if you're going through this program and you're not in the unlimited group or you're not getting swing reviews uh i don't know how you're going through it to be dead honest with me but everybody's different and uh we'll go from there and hopefully now i'm looking at this thing maybe i'll lose 15 20 pounds by the end of this because i think i've eaten one too many bags of popcorn or something all right on to the next one we'll see you in it you
