Bryan's Journey - Introduction

Follow along as Bryan works through The GOAT Code From Start To Finish And Documents The Entire Process. You'll see the practice, swing reviews and more as he goes through the whole program!

hello rotary swing members my name is brian zimmerman i'm a rotary swing member just like you and uh we're all going through this goat code program currently and so i thought it would be something fun to do where i'd videotape the entire process from start to finish uh and kind of you know document it journal it journey it uh and have a beginning you know and an end point uh to the entire program as i go through it i live here in florida luckily the weather is usually warm most of the time although this week it's a little bit chilly but this being the start of the new year i figured there's no better time than now to do this uh golf season for most everybody will crank back up pretty good around master's time so uh you know that's about four months uh from now so it's kind of a perfect time to go through this i realize you know the first two phases you can do mostly inside so if you're not in a place like florida where it's warmer california arizona places like that um you can do a lot of this stuff uh you know indoors um so why am i doing it one to keep myself accountable too so there's a documentation of the process from beginning to end i think the information is great there's a lot of information out there online you can definitely get lost down the rabbit hole um but looking at it going through it looking at the concepts the ideas behind it i think it's a great program i think it's worth filming and and documenting and maybe some of y'all will get something out of it maybe you won't uh you know maybe it'll get some other people to to do the same thing for fun and or maybe you just you know get a kick out of laughing at me as i screw up going through it um the plan is document everything from start to finish uh you'll see some practice sessions uh i did join craig's unlimited swing review group um you know so you'll get to see the reviews on on what i think prior to that and what he has to say afterwards so you can see what that you know review process looks like um i figured if i'm going to do this i'm going to try to do it you know the best i can uh and i think that having you know somebody else look at things uh and make sure that i'm doing it right if i'm going to put the time into this that uh i think that part of it's important uh so i did join that group as well um hopefully i'd like to get one maybe two videos out a week i don't believe they'll be too long maybe 10 15 minutes somewhere in there uh where you'll get to see uh you know processes of of the practice session uh you know i'll look at it myself give my own thoughts on it uh and then send it off to craig and then uh i will download my review and and put it on the video and let everybody see it uh you know and we can see how right or wrong uh i thought that i was you know before that review and uh hopefully and i'm sure it's going to be a great improvement uh in my golf game which is what we're all here for um i'm a predominant lead side player for most of my life so this is going to be a complete uh swing change uh for me uh but again i think the information is is there and i believe it's it's solid and the best out there uh right now so i'm willing to take the time put the effort into it and i figured well if i'm going to do that i'll keep myself accountable uh maybe give something back to the membership and and maybe some other people will do the same thing you know or just give you something to watch and to laugh at so the first thing we're going to do is is you know take a look at at my current swing what that looks like i'll give some ideas on that uh and then i will ship that swing off to craig to where craig can have a look at it and and give us you know uh an idea of what he sees and what you know we're going to have to work on to fix uh and then we'll go straight into phase one and begin videotaping that entire process so up on the screen here right now you can see you know a current swing that we just videotaped uh there's a front on and uh you know there's a down the line version so we'll go ahead and play this uh and have a look at that so as you can see in my eyes i don't think it's that bad uh i can obviously see a you know a few things that i would uh like to get fixed that you know that i would fix uh obviously the head movement you know down is one uh that left knee kind of buckles down too far which you know is causing my head to drop but other than that i think a lot of the positions are pretty good uh both of the strikes on the ball was good um but again this is you know this is why we do this this is why i'm doing it uh and this is why i decided to you know to join craig's unlimited group because i want to know you know what i'm up against uh and i know from you know golf experience uh for years sometimes you think you're doing something right uh and you're not and so the only way to you know to make sure is to let somebody else that you know that knows what they're doing look at it so all right i'm gonna turn that in and uh i'll come back and do the review hello everyone rotary swing tour instructor craig morrow here and today what i want to do is talk to you about brian's before swing brian's about to undertake the goat code process starting from scratch exactly how we have the plan laid out and so today we're going to discuss where he's starting from a little bit of cause and effect relationship what changes we should expect to see because some of you at home may be struggling with the same thing and so hopefully me talking about a few of these points will kind of give you a little bit of light bulb moment oh i'm kind of doing the same thing i need to put some focus on getting that down which would make my swing more efficient so looking at the beginning swing on the left hand side of the screen the first thing that popped right out at me was his lead arm position you're going to see that his lead hand is a little bit weak and his lead elbow is a little bit internally rotated now we all talk about the fundamentals in the golf swing and the grip is of the utmost importance if you do not want to be required to time your release you must get the grip correct the grip is going to be how you get the club squared up at impact correctly without you having to manually time it and so the first thing that we're going to really talk about with brian is we're going to have to get this lead arm position lead grip corrected it's a little bit weak the lead elbow is a little bit internally rotated and we'll see a little bit of this effect right off the ball is that as he starts to move back you can see that he's just pushing a lot with his lead arm and even though when he gets to the takeaway right here you'll see a lot of good width a lot of good positions right here it's all created by push and so what he's doing is he's starting to load his arms he's not loading his body goat code requires you to swing with the core and that core has to start right at the get-go right now the arms are the star of the show and so as he starts to move from this position you're going to see that he's kind of pushing his lead arm back up towards the top and looking at this some players at home may be like hey craig that looks like a really good backswing position he's got some width up there club face looks good and i'm not going to fight you on that i mean if i just had a little snapshot i'd be like hey this is a really good position the problem is it's how he got there you can see that there's too much tension up here in his shoulders and he really didn't use his core to make the backswing you see that the hips are a little bit dead right here and even though visually speaking it's not bad but it's going to make his downswing extremely hard chuck talks about all the time you know the the takeaway is one of the simplest things to get down and you don't hit the ball with your takeaway but it's one of those items that if you don't move through correctly it's going to be nearly impossible to have an effortless or a correctly sequenced downswing now if we look at the down the line on the right hand side of the screen you'll kind of see this you can see it's set up right here just a tiny bit of lordosis right here so we're going to work on kind of flattening out his posture as much as we can right there you know it's going to be that feeling of kind of sucking in the belly button to really get some structural integrity in the core and as he starts to move back you'll see that same thing with that lead arm push that we talked about on the face on you'll see that the trail arm starts to fold a little bit early right here not a ton of shoulder rotation at this point and it's just manufactured it's just manufactured right here you can see that the shoulder plane we can get it a little bit steeper right here but all this is just kind of created by push and as he starts to wind up towards the top what you're going to see is everything kind of stalls out and that's just because the lead arm's kind of pushing you'll see how the shoulders really aren't doing anything the hips really aren't doing anything this is a lot of frames to have the club moving without the body doing anything okay and we've always kind of famously said that you know if if your body's not moving that club better not be moving because the body's the the director of it and so because he's pushing so much and he's creating that tension he really can't load his body up towards the top and that's why the arms have to do the vast majority of the work and so when brian reaches this position right here he's got to do something all right now brian's very athletic and i can tell that he's a good player looking at this swing but he really has to pull his arms and hands hard from the top to get him to come down on plane to have some good power because the body's just not ready to work all right so he's really having to the old adage of ring the bell so he's really having to pull his arms and hands really hard here from the top and by the time he gets down into this position around gdp as the hands start to enter the trail thigh right here you're going to see things start to break down you just can't get the impact you're going to see having to pull it really hard right here and it starts to break down as we get into impact right here now some of the initial findings that we had with the grip is what's leading to a little bit of the bending of the arm right here you can see that the lead elbow is starting to bend we've got a little bit of a premature release right here and that kind of pulling of the bell motion players talk about all the time you know i i get over the top or i have a chicken wing um i don't know you know it looks kind of good going back but as i start to get into impact and into the release everything breaks down and i just can't seem to get out of it the simplest explanation i can give you it's because you're overworking your arms that's it if you're overworking your arms you're not going to see those aesthetics that you want at impact you're not going to see those aesthetics that you want as you go into the follow through it's because you have to create them and the swing when you're moving from the correct place at the correct time in the correct sequence it's all byproducts it will happen for you you don't have to worry about getting into gdp you don't have to worry about squaring up the club all these things will happen if you are moving with your cord in the correct sequence and so when you start to see your lead arm bend coming down and you get a little bit early into impact and you're working really hard it's because you're using your arms not trying to be too simpleton on it but that's that's the case and so as he starts to work through here it's not too bad i mean he gets the club face rotating through i mean i'm sure that you know he hits the ball pretty darn well there's a lot of good things in the swing he's just working too hard like the vast majority of us do in the swing so hopefully a couple of these things that i'm talking about right here will you know kind of hit close to home and maybe some of these same positions you're struggling with and that's why we're going to go on this journey right here and we're going to start with getting that set up getting the grip position starting with the putting and when we start getting to this position or these movements in the swing that we're talking about today he's already going to know what it's like to feel correct release to feel what it's like to use the core to get the trail side moving correctly so a lot of this is going to be taken care of by the time we kind of get to his nine to three which is going to be really cool to see but we've got to take him from an arm driven swing to a core driven swing that's going to be how he starts to build a repeatable swing for life but he's not playing that guessing game out there he's not playing that timing game out there that's going to be how we take brian swing now which is still pretty darn good but we take it from this and turn it into a goat all right so you just saw craig's review uh the rundown the breakdown of of all of that uh clearly you know kind of some of the ideas that i had and some of the things that i thought weren't exactly what he thought uh you know clearly there's some changes but we have a starting point which is the main thing so i'm i'm pretty excited to see what you know what it's going to look like when when this is all said and done uh and hopefully it'll be fun for everybody else like i said we're all going through this thing and sometimes it's it's fun to to kind of uh you know keep each other accountable so to speak number one number two to watch somebody else go through the same thing that you're going through uh you know and bounce questions off each other and you know and that kind of good stuff so um i'm gonna get right into phase one and uh you know the next video will will be the uh you know the one-handed putting uh and we'll go from there uh got me a rotary swing hat which is they got nice hats actually these are i'm kind of weird about hats but this this is a nice hat um i snatched one out of the out of the shop there so all right well i will see you in the next video and uh talk to you then

Thanks Greg, I hope it's helpful to see as I go through it! Few more videos coming out very soon. As far as Craig goes, his feedback has been such a big part of where I'm at in the process right now. I thought my swing was pretty solid too until he pointed those things out hahahaha. He's done the same thing as I've submitted reviews throughout where I'm at in the process now and thinking things were pretty solid....but they weren't as much as I thought. His unlimited group has been more than worth it and something I hope people are taking advantage of. At the very least getting some swing reviews to get a second set of unbiased eye's to look at the practice that's been put in.

Hey Tom, Thanks, this will be fun! If I'm being honest, probably between a 5-7 right now. I was pretty good ten years ago, between scratch and +2, but I quit playing completely for about 8 years or so and just truly gotten back into the game over the last year. Figure it's the perfect time to redo everything the right way. Yea I just finished the 2nd video and there's no doubt that unlimited review group pays for itself in saving time working on the right things. Well worth the investment in my opinion.
