This drill will help you see the intended line so that you develop perfect speed on your putts.

I want to give you two really really important drills as part of this putting series to help you start mastering this new much simpler much more compact putting stroke that's going to change your game forever and one of my favorite drills is a visualization exercise where you start imagining a line going from the ball straight to the hole and I want you to literally try and paint a line like you see on the screen in your brain I want you to visualize that you can physically actually see this in your mind that there's a line going straight to the hole your goal is to visualize rolling the ball on that line so it really needs to be a clear picture in your mind you may need to close your eyes for a second at first to see that line in your mind's eye because again you're no longer trying to make the ball start online by doing some sort of little trick you're just rocking your shoulder blades back and through and pulling through with the left side to keep the putter face really stable and in doing so you don't have to really worry about getting the ball to go where you want it to you just need to see the whole line now in this case this is a straight putts a relatively straight putt so I don't really need to to do too much that's really crazy here but if this putt had a lot of break in it I would want to paint in my mind's eye of a vision of an arc of where I wanted the ball to travel the whole way through now some people like to tell you that that you should just aim for a starting point and I like that idea to a degree but it doesn't give give you the picture of the speed that you need for the putt so if I just say that let's just pretend that this putt had two feet of breaks I needed to aim two feet outside the hole and then the theory there is that I just put the ball at that at that line and then let the speed take care of itself well I can't really see the speed it's kind of tricky so if I imagine the arc the entire way of what this putt wants to do then my mind and my subconscious can start putting that picture together and that's what you're really trying to do with putting because we've taken the mechanics the complicated stuff out of the stroke you now get to focus on controlling speed and distance and that's all going to come from visualization in your mind when you're standing behind this putt I want you to see literally try and paint with your mind on an arc on the ground or you know if it's a straight putt just a straight line and literally try and see like what I've drawn on the screen for you a line going into that hole and if you do getting the ball to do what you want it to will be much much simpler that's all there is to it
