it's recording perfect all right cool how's it going oh man yeah what what what else i can you know dream to be with you chicks i appreciate that i'm excited to help you why don't you tell me a little about your game what's going on well hey i'm i'm a handicap at 20 uh i improved you know a lot but i i feel that i'm stunk in there i don't move you know forward i think that my main problem is the um the the back swing you know and then the the weight shift because i don't have the power you know i even though that i you can see that off i mean that my swing is very fast let's say my driver you know is not giving me more than 200 or something so i think that i'm stunk you know in not uh delivering you know my weight properly that's that's that's my main problem and the the other main problem i have is when i go over my back swing let me just as an example i i i see that i disconnected with my grip especially with this hand you know it's like uh sometimes you know it's very loose instead of being very hinged or very together you know the two the two hands they say right hand sometimes i can feel that it's dancing okay so i don't know if because my movement you know is is really is is not on the path you know you see what i'm saying sure sure so so those are my main problems i have well they're common problems and the good thing is common problems are easy to fix they all have the same solutions to them typically so we'll be able to get you on the right track what i'd like to do do you have room there to where i could video a couple of your swings real quick yes perfect so why don't you set up the camera so i can i can see your full swing ah perfect i love it let me see uh tell me tell me if you if you see properly the swing you see it all i can see everything except for the very top but i think i can see what's going on so if this is the best we got this will be totally fine okay so let me just do some rehearsals okay let me do it okay so my setup basically extend the the ball you know a little forward this is a seven iron okay well yeah you got a lot of speed can you turn and just make a practice swing as if you were going to hit one against the wall back behind you so i can video your swing from down the line yeah perfect all right perfect that's exactly what i needed another one or nope that's perfect that's okay yeah where where are you located jose in dubai now in hawaii dubai oh dubai oh no kidding hey yes in the uae very cool all right let me share my screen with you okay all right so you see that okay yes so setup looks really great but as i you know as you mentioned your right hand you're not even really gripping the club with your right hand at first so that's part of the issue why your hands feel really kind of loose on the club you don't feel like you have that good sense of control of the club so we can we can adjust that it's just simply actually taking a little bit more of a firmer grip with your right hand because it's actually too loose it's too soft so that'll be an easy fix but what's really going on here is that your swing you have a tremendous amount of power and speed but it's all coming from your arms and hands and you're not using your lower body enough and so trade-off will always be the same if you don't load up your lower body you will be forced to use your arms and hands that's all it is and so i'm going to show you exactly how we're going to fix this stuff but okay so it's not going to be a problem it's going to take some work obviously but you can see as you make a lot you know you're very flexible you make a good turn but again it's a lot of hand action here and that's where all that speed's coming from but the problem is even with all that speed that you're able to generate when it's all coming from the hands and arms you simply lose you know half of your power that you're capable of and you should be able to hit the ball 300 yards as fast as you can move and you can move really athletically and really fast as fast as you can move you should be hitting 300 yard drives 320 yard drives all day long so the exciting stuff is you move super well but okay it's all coming from the arms and hands and that's see how your elbow starts to fly out here this is all really common stuff and the lower body doesn't work okay so let me let me turn this off for a second so let me show you what we're going to do the most important thing that you're going to work on for the next couple of months to get this down is feeling transferring the feeling of the club being swung by your hands to being swung by your legs and that's a weird translation at first because we do everything in our day to life with our arms and hands so we just want to we want to take the club and you're strong enough you can you know you can generate a lot of speed but again when you do that and you swing all arms and hands the the problem is you won't shift your weight you'll just start firing your hands from the top because that's the only thing you have to generate any power with and when that's the case you have to cast the club because the only thing you can do to move the club is you move your arms and hands so that's exactly what's going on as you as you come down your lower body is just kind of quiet it's not really working and you fire the arms and you lose all of this leverage before you get to impact and so the sequence is just reversing that and at first you have to kind of throw the club down because you're you've ingrained this movement of using your arms and hands so uh so much that you'll have to stop for just a little bit maybe a few days a couple weeks or whatever shouldn't take very long but you you have to reverse it to start feeling something else you have to start feeling it in your glutes literally in your butt your quads your hamstrings your core all of that is going to be what you start to associate with the golf swing and nothing from here up does that make sense yes because once we get the lower body moving correctly then you're going to be able to maintain lag because you won't have to fire your arms from the top you put if you've seen my video the dump truck and the drag racer that's kind of the idea the the dump truck has to do all the heavy lifting that's your lower body and then the drag racer the hands can fire but they don't they don't have very much fuel they can only fire right at the very end and so if we don't conserve that energy they're going to fire too soon so let me show you how we're going to start working on this the first and most important thing that you're going to do is to feel loaded up in the backswing in your legs if you load up correctly in the backswing these muscles will start to unwind without you thinking about it in the downswing just like you fire your hands from the top right now without thinking about it we want to just flip that so that it's lower body first so the first and most important thing you're going to do is learn to load into this right leg and the way to feel that one of my favorite ways and the easiest way to feel it is imagine and did you play baseball or any any other sports growing up oh yes yes i yeah so as a baseball player i like to think of like a pitcher yeah exactly that's it what you just did is really the sequence of the swing if you load up on this right leg and go to the top and really bounce on it feel your right leg like and you exaggerate it and really feel this right glute that's what you should feel in your golf swing at the top believe it or not and it's right now you probably don't feel that much at all you just feel your arms and hands there you go so the way to feel that is imagine if you were going to load up on this right leg and lift your left foot in the air so all your weights on this right leg and then jump to the left bigger jump there you go now this is all lower body right yes now you feel your glute and your hamstring work as you're doing this yep and the same is true in the down swing when we go to the left this left glute has to fire to push up off the ground to get that post-up motion okay so the swing is really happening from here down that's what i want you to start to think about and the simplest way again to start is just feeling lateral movement just feeling your legs wake up again in your swing because right now your lower body is pretty quiet there you go so then once you come you know this is obviously an exaggeration it's not exactly how you're going to move in the swing because there's obviously a rotation involved right so now we can kind of blend that together with as we're turning back to start to feel some coil there you go squat into that right leg see right now they're even more get more weight on that right leg there you go but do it watch me for just a second so you're doing it like this uh-huh and it's not that your upper body is going to move over here this is how we kind of cheat sometimes and move our weight over here we have moving our upper torso our upper torso is going to stay pretty centered you're going to feel just like you did when you were doing your step drill it's your hip there you go it's your hip moving over to the right side not your upper body movement does that make sense okay yes yes yes i see what i'm saying so try that there you go yeah you feel loaded up now totally even on the glutes now completely different right yeah wow yeah that's where power comes from because power is not just about generating speed you've got speed for days what's really important about maximizing your distance is conserving energy and releasing it at the right time you can't do that if your lower body doesn't work because there's nothing else to move that golf club does that make sense yes there you go load up okay and i think that you make sense because you know uh most of the times uh when when i'm playing i i hit it fat and i i think you know that i'm just throwing my hands way way uh faster right i mean way ahead when i should be releasing the club right so okay a hundred percent that's exactly what happens when people hit the ball fat there's typically just two reasons one their arms fire too soon and this lever this angle goes into the ground because there's nowhere else for it to go yeah and when you fire your arms first the bad thing is it's a double whammy it kills two things because when you pull your arms down hard it makes you stay on the back foot so now you can't even shift your weight because you've got all this force pulling you down on your back foot and that's why when you watch somebody swing who's very efficient it looks kind of slow from the top and that's just because they're just shifting over their weight that's it and once you do that then you conserve that angle that's causing you to throw it into the ground that's the most important thing in the world for you and you've already got me you're obviously very athletic you can move really well but now it's just it's prioritizing that making this your number one focus point i don't care where that arms and club are at the top i want you to load that right leg so i i my my stance actually you know what i tried to do in the recent days i tried to open more my stance and then i i kind of hard you know my hip now oh yeah yeah yeah because i was so so wide so my stance i tried to do it just like that right and i feel it i feel it now you know when i'm doing the the load believe it even that's a little bit wide that's about as wide as i would ever want you to go for a driver for a normal iron swing i'd want you to be even a little bit narrower there you go the reason is oh really absolutely because the reason is you need to shift back over to the left and then the wider your stance is the harder it is to shift there okay there you go so now with this narrower stance i want you to feel loaded in that right leg just like you were going to jump and then load it in the left leg like you did jump yeah oh load that right leg now the left and then you're now you got to turn that left hip as you're posting up so you're just this one okay that's good but you also have to turn it okay okay okay turn the left hip more there you go perfect okay nice and and what i was feeling also chuck is that there's sometimes that probably because of the brush right i i think that i load but then i unload but on the same on the same foot you you see what i'm saying i'm loading like this and then also you know my fat chops are coming from there absolutely there's two reasons for that like i was saying earlier right if you if you fire your arms first you won't be able to shift your weight because you've got all this force literally pulling you down this way okay right so that's problem number one and number two if you're not prioritizing focusing on this you're more worried about hitting the ball or you're worried about where the club is or whatever you won't shift so now we're putting your brain in your butt everything about this so all you're going to worry about is all you're going to think about and focus on okay there you go nice now you feel lower body right yes yes that's the whole key to your swing i mean you generate massive speed with your upper body and that's just going to relax a little bit and that's just going to take some practice of getting this to be your focal point this is all you're thinking about and every single shot for right now and you're overdoing it at first you're really exaggerating thinking okay i don't care where my arms and club are just thinking about this and you're going to start relaxing your arms and relaxing your arms more and this will happen at first gradually but there won't be a process involved the first step of the process is what we're doing right now where we really exaggerate thinking just lower body right yeah drills feeling it our glutes trying to really overthink that stuff so that's all we're focusing on once you get to the point where like okay now i'm shifting pretty well but you'll still find that your arms will want to kind of fire early so the next step to that is starting to focus on the backswing to where you know but now we're loading our glutes right but how do we get these arms to be more you know more passive more relaxed and that's going to take away and i actually i don't know if you can see my screen in the background here yeah yeah i see so this is a swing of mine from yesterday but the reason i pull this up here is i can walk you through if you watch my arms and club all the way here's the takeaway my arms haven't moved at all right but i have turned three quarters of a full shoulder turn already right and then as i keep going to the top right here i've made a full shoulder turn yeah my arms and hands have just barely moved i've just barely set the club and that that doesn't happen till the very end and the whole point of this is that my arms are super super relaxed and i mean not so soft and flimsy right you gotta have some tension because you're moving the club but right now what you're used to is the hands moving really really fast and what you're going to do is feel like the hands don't move at all and that's the trick to start being able to take advantage of this good lower body movement is you're going to feel like this this is an exaggeration but it's what you're going to start practicing when you're in the house is that you're literally just turning turning loading still haven't set my wrist i've made a full turn my arms are still i mean this arm's still almost totally straight right yeah that's how you start getting the creating the width in your swing that allows the sequencing of the swing to unfold naturally if you go back and you just pick the club up like this and bend your arms and pick the club up really quick which you can do with your hands guess what's going to happen on the downswing yeah exactly you won't have a choice so now lower body first that's going to be your focus and then once you start getting to the point where you're ready to add the club and hit balls your arms are just going to feel like they do nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing and then release okay so it makes sense yeah well uh probably i will see well it's a process because at first you're going to want to go into your old habits of just grabbing the club and picking it up really quick right so let's try go ahead so i i will not i will not try to i mean think i'm not moving the hands let's go really slow there you go good so show me i want you to show me you not bending your right arm at all on the entire back oh okay narrow up your stance just a little bit oh sorry i i i yeah probably it's just a habit right yeah we're good that's you know feel loaded up into the right leg good now to the left leg focus on that the shift into the left there you go nice do that again for me so you're going to feel like your your right arm stays straight a little bit slower on this one focus on your lower body good all right let me show you that all right so this is you feeling that your right arm never bends pretty good right right there you've made a good turn still a good turn right arm just now now it's obviously bent about 90 degrees which it's going to obviously yes thing is did we shift back to the left first there you go nice look at the shift okay okay so you started right yeah yeah yeah nice now look at the lag that you've been able to maintain to this point in the swing okay yes right normally you'd be casting the club already because you would have been releasing with your hands now look at this this is great way better tons of lag way better and then we had we did another one i would have you go a little bit slower so it's a little easier to see way better with your wrists way better good shift look at the lag now it's even better because you went a little bit slower uh look at that awesome awesome beautiful okay that's awesome dude so the reason i want you to go slower at first is because let me stop this is this is awesome let me stop this shit all right so when you think of your golf swing what feels natural for you right now as you said you you feel quick you feel fast right yes as you start feeling your lower body moving it's going to feel slower because you're moving this big bone structure and it just takes a little bit of time to get it out of the way your hands you can do crazy stuff really quick right so you're going to feel kind of slow and wide not setting your wrist your right arm is going to stay straight you're going to feel like it's kind of chilling out coming down but while this your arms and hands and shoulders are feeling like they're not doing much this is work that's butt off right like you're really having to work to shift and to load right so it looks slow on the outside but on the inside there's fury going on here right like we're really working our butt's really working our legs are really working and you saw that like when you when you took your time getting to the top and you were wide and wide and wide and then you shifted really well all of a sudden you have this angle yes instead of this angle so now by the time you were here you had as lag as good as any player on the planet and then that's just going to release automatically so you don't have to rely on that hand speed because this you have this angle is all that power that you need in the swing you just have to be able to maintain it to that point and you can't maintain it when you're firing your arms from the top that make sense no totally and make and and and and also i was gonna tell because i'm moving too fast my hands that's also the reason why here you know it's disengaging because there's too many i mean too many things happening here right exactly even chuck even there are there are some times when i'm playing that after six holes my shoulder this shoulder you know parts why because every time that i'm doing i'm hitting with this part the shoulder you see what i'm saying because i'm trying to move the hands and boom hitting hitting hitting hitting hitting here so okay okay so i will try to be passive right yeah load and okay exactly so you're you nailed it exactly right right so your problems of hitting shots fat your problems of not having power your problems of hanging back on the right side they're all tied to the exact same thing that's what's cool about rotary swing is it's all the same fundamentals for everybody and they're simple right if you shift your weight you can maintain lag but if but if your arms fire first you can't shift your weight so it's a double-edged sword so you're learning now if you load properly going back shifting back to the left you did perfectly on the first try okay okay i mean it's a it's a kind of a new thing right that i need i i i i'm telling you i do feel it here sometimes i don't feel it you know in here i don't feel it you know that i'm i'm not doing the proper shift you know so now when when i uh when i'm moving the weight should i feel the weight in the heel so i mean like like here oh sorry the camera is a little bit up i can't quite see yeah oh sorry sorry if you can put it down just a hair that'll help perfect so when i'm um let me put it this way this way when i'm i can load it here but when i shift should i put my all my weight in the heel or balance so it's so the weight moves dynamically on the left foot so let me show you really quickly during the back swing your weight on the left foot is going to move towards the ball because you're let you you're turning your hips right so yes before the weight goes onto the ball your foot as you start back it starts to work its way back but never onto the heel until the very very very end you want to get a push off of this leg right straightening this leg up in the in the air the way that you can do that most powerfully to engage the glute is not to be on the ball of your foot that puts your knee at risk and not back on the heel that's just weak and off balance so think about if you're going to do a squat where's your weight yeah balanced i mean between the ball and the heel exactly so i use this range of like in between your ankle to the middle of your foot that's the most balanced powerful place for your foot to be and you'll feel that feels really natural i see i see okay then if you finish your turn you know when you're into the follow through then it goes over to the heel but not till the very end yeah because otherwise i will destroy my knee right exactly exactly yeah and with this weight so what i want you to practice is just you know every day just kind of get used to moving and start to wait before you hit balls or whatever just kind of move and kind of squat into it so you feel your glute and the top of your hamstring start to engage a little bit it's just going to it's going to get you aware of those muscles right okay so it's just going to get you feeling this you just kind of jump back and forth it's just going to get your legs to wake up again start to be able to use them and then you're obviously going to tame that down it's not going to be a big step but then as you're going back you're going to load that right leg and then shift and post up on the left side while your arms are just staying out of it for right now right you can do this and just i love doing these drills with my arms across my chest because it allows you to really focus on just your your legs and your core there you go and then as you add the arms back in you're just going to feel more passive and quiet and you're going to have all that speed when it really matters which is just down there so once i do these drills at the end i should be feeling that my back shake is passive you're going to feel like you're just not doing anything all the way to the top with your arms right yes with the arms yes with the arms this is doing a lot okay it's going to be working but you don't it doesn't you don't see that a lot so a lot of people just see what's happening with the arms and hands and club and that's all they focus on when really it's in here okay makes sense totally chuck so nice so just practice this stuff you you did it perfect i was actually shocked you did it really really well that quickly so you're going to get this really really fast just make sure you keep feeling that this is where your head's going to be this is what you're going to focus on you already have all these great athletic moves and all the speed but this is literally going to be like a 50 bump in distance right away because you're just losing all your lag you're losing all your yes yes yes totally okay so yeah dude you're going to be you're going to be gold you're going to be up there really quick so dude i thank you so much um you should have your recording there so you can go back and watch this and if you don't mind yes share this with with some of our members i think they'd find this really helpful yes no no totally totally okay yeah yeah no problem perfect all right jose well thank you so much i got to run to my next lesson you have any other questions for me before we go no i really appreciate it chuck and it was a pleasure you know talking to you my friend it was my pleasure take care jose bye bye all right i'll see you next time
