Bryan continues Phase 2 of The GOAT Code with his second chipping submission. Lot's of improvements here in his technique but also some new issues. See if you can find them before seeing Craigs review! Make Sure You're Getting Your Swing Reviewed Here!
all right rotary swing members brian zimmerman back here with part two of phase two of chipping in the last video there was a few things that craig told us to work well me to work on obviously a stance need to be a little bit narrower more shaft-leaning impact keep the extension in the wrist and more weight on the lead side so let's go through a couple of these just a little down the line shot you can definitely see that there's still some extension in that wrist as i'm hitting this shot a little bit off the toe there as you come down you can see it ever so slightly it almost looks like it's over the top is about the only word i can use to describe it but it's probably more of the turning of the of the wrist or forearm instead of supinating properly now obviously on a chip this short it's not going to be a lot of supination but you definitely don't want the club head coming over it it's very very subtle if you slow the video down you can definitely see it not much though do you have a little bit of head chase still going on i fought with that in putting i got that worked out but clearly it's something that's here in the chipping as well so i'm gonna have to work on that let one more of these and then we'll go to the face on one all right in the face on one you can't really see a whole lot other than the shaft lean and the extension in the wrist you can definitely tell that my stance is more narrow weight is definitely on the left side shaft lean is there keeping that extension in the wrist still some very clear head chase though i'm sure craig's going to pick up on that for sure but overall you know what we wanted to clean up in the first video i think has been been cleaned up pretty good now we're just going to try to dial in all the the little things that craig's gonna come up with as he as he looks at the review uh which again i know i've said this 20 different times but i mean these reviews are are priceless um you know put a lot of time energy and time more than anything else uh into it so i definitely want to make sure that i'm doing this stuff right so a couple things like i said i i picked up on head chase is obviously one and then you know that little kind of over the top move uh it's it's super super subtle in that uh chip in motion in the down the line version but i'll be curious to see what craig has to say about the the rest of the stuff that we worked on obviously like i said stance shaft lean at impact extension in the wrist and weight on the lead side so let's go ahead and turn that over to craig and see what he has to say hello brian we're listening to instructor craig morrow here all as well today all right so we got some trail hand chipping narrowed the stance to keep the weight on the left more a little bit more shaft lean at impact keeping the cupping or the extension in the wrist through the strike this is about after three hours of practice head still moving towards the target a tiny bit and we'll focus on that if the rest is good so you can move on to the ripper all right well let's talk about it and it is definitely better than the last uh trail arm only chipping that i saw a couple thoughts that i have in mind but a lot of good today in the motion but i also appreciate the notes and it's one thing that i tell my swing review students often is send me some notes let me know what's going on it's very important that we have this open line communication uh between each other because i'm not there in front of you and i want to know how things are going i want to know how the strike's going what you worked on what it feels like it really gives me a little bit more of a window other than just mechanically what i see how the work is going so when we look at the left hand side of the screen as we start to set up doing a little bit better with the weight on this side you can kind of see just a little bump into that left side or that lead side to kind of get things going which i really like to see right there just to kind of get things moving not being so static trying to get that fascial stretch the only thing that i see a little bit of and it's a little tough with the camera angle if you look at the difference on the screen right now what's is there anything that stands out to you chuck has his weight on the lead side you can see your weights on the lead side you can kind of see the same uh degrees of openness with the shoulders for the lead arm just kind of hanging out over there but anything that you see right here you can see a little bit of chuck's fingers right here you can see just a little bit of his fingernails right here and to me it looks like you're just turning that hand just a little bit just a little bit as you work into that strike right there it's a little bit tough to tell uh but chuck's v is just a little bit less turned over right here just the tiniest bit and that might be coming in especially with the you know head chase that's kind of still there through the strike but as we see we got just a little you got just the tiniest little bit of kind of getting things going into that left side and as we move through here and move into the ball it just looks like we've got a little bit of effort to try and square up that club okay or to try to rotate that toe into the strike and then we still have just a little bit of the head right there the only thing that i really want to see you change is probably add a little bit more pressure in your right hand so that as your rotation brings you through here we don't see any pronation from that right wrist okay i think we can keep that you know a little bit more kind of facing the sky or out away from you just the tiniest bit more not a whole bunch at all if we look at the down the line version when we look at this one so we start to go back right here you can see a nice balanced stroke going this way i really like everything that's going on and as we start to come through you can almost see it right there almost see it just that little bit of right hand wanting to pronate over just that little bit just looks like you're trying to help it just that tiniest bit right there and it might coincide with that extra head because you you it's whether it's a conscious move or a subconscious move where the eyes go the head goes where the head goes the chest goes and on and on down the list so if your eyes are going to start to take off a little premature more than likely you're going to start to add just the tiniest bit of rotation there okay it's not much if it's barely noticeable but you can see with chucks right here and let me kind of stop right there i'm going to go through the same spot on yours you can see right there almost just a little bit of helping it right there just a little bit see how we don't have quite as much of an extension in the wrist right there toe isn't even rotating that much it's more kind of like what you're doing with the trail hand putting where we start to lose just a little bit of extension in that wrist and to me it looks like you're just adding a tiniest bit of pronation right there okay other than that though it's really really good i i like everything that's going on you you made some huge strides between the last review and this one you can see maybe a tiny bit of steepness right there you can see just a little bit right there so all i would do is i would probably take this stroke go back and as you get to this position right here let's just make sure we have a little bit more pressure here and really feel that elbow and that palm of that trail hand stay away right here just so that as your core brings you down here we don't have any kind of extra pronation that we don't need it'll help you keep a little bit more extension in the wrist it'll definitely allow you to have more shaffling not that you necessarily need much more but it'll help you really retain that shaffling let's just keep it that little bit right there starts to turn down them just a little bit with the head okay let's add a little pressure let's keep that palm away let's keep that head a little bit more stable and if you go through some reps where you start with the little fascial stretch we delete any of that pronation coming down the core is bringing it through no kind of chase with the eyes of the head too much spot to start working on the river all right so some pretty good improvement always a good thing to hear that you're putting the work in so it's nice to nice to hear that a lot of the stuff that he pointed out in the first video got cleaned up like i said the head chasing is clear he obviously picked up on that what i called kind of the over the top movie he called you know steep basically it's so subtle it's hard to see but it's definitely there so we'll have to work on that uh you know the good the good thing about that is it's you know more of a pronation thing than i think it is a path thing which can also you know happen with with the eyes wanting to move like that overall though as you can see from the grouping i mean this is probably a good 25 foot chip shot maybe a little bit further than that so one-handed overall it's pretty good uh this is another thing that i kind of do during the practice i'll i'll hit a few and then kind of go up and down the alignment stick like that but all right so the next thing i know he had mentioned the the ripper chip but i'm going to worry about that after i go through the two-handed chipping part of it i mean the ripper is a great shot but i'm more concerned of of getting the chip in motion down and and those things so i'm going to go ahead and put the other other hand on the club and start working on these things that he brought up in in this review kind of dial those in i don't think there needs to be another review of that i know what to work on and if the problems are still there you'll see them you know in the in the two-handed chipping part of it so i'm going to go ahead and start working on that and we will see you in the next video you you you you
