Bryan continues Phase 2 of The GOAT Code with his first two handed chipping submission. Some great things here as you'll see in Craigs review! Make Sure You're Getting Your Swing Reviewed Here!
All right, Rotary Swing members, Brian Zimmerman back here with the next video in the GoCo journey, and this is two-handed chipping.
So in two-handed chipping, this is the first review of putting both hands on the club.
In the last video, we went through some things that Craig talked about, you know, the shaft lean, making sure your head stays there.
Other than that, you know, everything was really good, so it was time to put both hands on the club.
So that's what we're looking at here.
It's the first review of that.
To be honest, I think everything, you know, looks pretty good.
in this we'll go over a couple you know a couple things real quick first off this is obviously a little bit longer than a normal chip shot i realize that the green is a little bit over here but it's not quite as far as what the camera makes it look like but to be honest it's probably in between a chip and a pitch but we are using a 60 degree wedge here so a couple things that i'm working on paying attention to one you'll see me messing around with my grip what i'm doing there is basically just trying to make sure that the club is in the proper position in both hands, that I have some shaffling at the start, that I also have some shaffling at impact, that I'm keeping that angle in the wrist, and then I'm using the core to go back and through instead of just my hands and shoulders and arms, and that I'm trying to keep that face square up into here as I go through impact and not letting it roll over.
so we'll take a look at one in a little bit of slow motion you can see that forward press kind of to start as i go back and forth so you'll see me kind of really push into that there as i go back you can see my core moving as you can see my shirt wrinkle even though i need to lose about 30 pounds you can still see it kind of moving there so that's a good sign weight's definitely you know more on my on my front foot coming through as we get into impact you can see the hands are well ahead of the club face and the ball so we got some pretty good shaffling there impact looks good still has some extension in that wrist right there there's the frame after impact so again you know there's no flipping or anything like that still have some extension in that wrist right there my head kind of stays into place go through you can see my whole body moving through you know the only thing really here and i'm sure craig will pick up on this is you know that follow-through is way extended there's no need for the follow-through to be that long however i'm trying to exaggerate all these different positions you know as far as keeping the club face square using my core to go through so you know basically that's where i wind up at as far as you know the follow -through trying to do all those things obviously that follow-through does not need to be that big but other than that i think everything looked pretty good so we'll run a couple here and see what they look like and normal speed.
Again, that follow-through does not need to be that long.
Do one more, then we'll take off into the down-the-line version.
All right, down the line, you can see that this is a little bit different view, so you can kind of see where the chip is.
These greens are running about 10 to 11 on the stent meter, so it's definitely a fast and kind of a breaking chip but same things basically what we're looking for you see setup's pretty solid you know feet are kind of parallel left clubhead is aiming just a little bit to the right of that pin shoulders and everything are kind of in line with the feet for the most part we go back trying to make sure that i keep that elbow pit pointing out you know toward where the camera is over here kind of hard to see from this angle and the fact that i have a little bit of an ink addiction doesn't make it any easier to see but going back club head goes up very similar angle to my spine coming down head stays pretty still in that one probably still a little bit of of sneaking a look but not too bad impact is solid you can see the core and everything rotating through pretty good chip shot there so same thing he's basically playing a few in normal speed so things that i think that craig might pick up on you know number one obviously is that follow through is you know is way too long the other thing I think he may pick up on would be maybe some head movement depending on the chip shot and which ones I turn in so right there you can really kind of see it it's not much it's very very subtle but right about there you can see I'm kind of sneaking a little bit of a peek then the exaggerated follow through but you can see the club face really hasn't turned over you know when it gets about knee high so to speak it really hasn't turned over much at all you know through impact that thing stays pretty square all the way you know it hasn't turned over at all right there as you watch my hands go it still really hasn't turned over so those are the things to focus on so let's turn it over to craig and see what he's got to say i think overall today things look fantastic i do have one little topic to talk about but for the vast majority of it it looks really really good we start over here with the face on i have one issue with setup and it's not really that big of an issue but we're going to have a chit chat about it with the forward press or the shaft lane it's set up and we're going to compare the chucks here in just a second but overall ball position looks good loved a little bit of the narrow stance everything's in a nice solid position to get things going in the right direction and we'll see as we start to go back nice and balanced with the core got a whole lot of face rotation moving back into impact good lean it looks like a nice balance chip to me i mean there's um not a whole lot to yell about you can see that you got a lot kind of coming through over here and i think that's going to come into play as you start working on your distance control just to kind of get everything even keel moving through but a lot of solid with this if we mark i'm just going to mark right here we mark your shaft position or your hand position right here you'll see that as you go back nice and balanced moving a little bit into that lead side and as you're getting into impact you'll see that your hands and club are definitely increasing as you move into impact i think there's a lot of good with that you do have a tendency to really want to have this big finish to really want to kind of you know keep rotating or powering it a little bit more through the shot but in my opinion that'll button up as you start to button up your yardages and you really try to dial in where this ball is landing and where it's finishing but there's a lot of good to it one thing that I do want to talk about though if we compare this to Chuck's on the right what do you see different right here on the screen you'll see that you have a lot more forward press than Chuck at this stage in the game now one thing is is address is a very static position impacts a dynamic position so that when you start i want you to move in the swing and i want you to move through impact one thing that i see in a lot of my reviews is that players start adding more and more forward press and so they start getting their hands way out here ahead and the problem is is since impact is dynamic position by the time you get back to impact if you've preset this far out you're going to probably have to feel all the way out here to get the proper shaft lane.
And I don't want you to feel like it's a struggle to get the hands out ahead to get the compression on the strike.
If you watch Chuck as he starts out from here you're going to see he's in a very balanced position and now he uses a little bit of press into the lead side.
You see that little bit of baby rock into the lead side and this is going to be where he starts to add just a little bit of forward press and then starts to move back into the takeaway okay now this little motion right here is a great way to trigger the swing but it's also a great way to make sure that you move through positions you start at address and then you get the little press into the lead side and then you start to make the backstroke and you start to kind of stretch these muscles and you get that core activated but it gives a particular feel and flow to the swing in my opinion it makes things move it doesn't make things feel so blocky concrete position oriented i think it allows you to have a little bit of feel in the swing so my only complaint with the face on is let's just be careful that we don't keep presetting presetting presetting if we can get kind of the trigger to the swing starting a little bit balance pressing just a little bit in the lead and adding the forward press and that's kind of the trigger to get things going i think we'll be in a really good spot now what i also want you to notice which i think is going to come with that little bit of a setup adjustment and some distance control is let's look at that finished position okay you're finishing really far up here which to me means that you're you're you're adding some help through it trying to get it to the spot that you want to land it i think we just need to tone it up it's a little baby chip okay now let's look at the down the line and we'll talk about the same thing so obviously relative yardage that we're using right here you'll see the same thing with chuck as he starts to go back little baby backswing right here face isn't over rotating right here same thing with yours nice little baby backswing nothing crazy going on maybe a little bit more toed down than chunks because you can see there's just a little bit more extension in this wrist but the big one is is you're not rolling the face open you're not throwing it inside nothing that's going to be a detriment to the swing right here and then as you start to come down a lot of good with that you can see this one's a little buttoned up which is a little bit more like Chuck's shorter chip on the right hand side and then as we start to go through what you're going to start to notice is that follow through starts to get really big now I'm going to mark this spot right here okay and I'm going to go back to your prior one so you can see you definitely had a little bit more carry on that but it wasn't really that much compared to how much finish we had going through over there so when you talk about hitting that kind of 20 yard you know almost pitch shot with the chip motion i think it's just practice at this point I think it's just getting it simple kind of boring and mundane where there's just not a whole lot going on you're really feeling the core and you're not adding anything coming through because think about this you haven't created enough momentum you haven't created enough speed to really kind of finish way up here and that's really high for a chip okay and you can even see that relative landing point really wasn't that different on these it's my only complaint i think everything looks really really good but i do think that we can just tighten it up a little bit so if we go back over here to my list i'm going to go down here to recommended videos right here and what you need to do is i think that if you can button up that little bit with the setup and get everything kind of matching a little bit more I want you to start taking the assessment and I want you to kind of see where you're landing I want you to kind of see where it's rolling out to I think we need to get a gauge of the consistency of the motion because other than that I think there's a lot of solid to it but I think we need to see where it's at so that we can really hone it in two suggestions I think you don't need to start as much with the forward lane I would like to see you start a little bit more balanced and then kind of move into that position to be the trigger to make the backstroke.
And then as you come down, I'd like it a little bit more balanced on the way through.
I think that if you only take the club back this far, we shouldn't be seeing the club finish up here.
That's going to mean that you're helping it.
You're doing something.
You're adding energy to it.
So if you fix that a little bit with the setup and you start doing your assessment with it after some reps with a setup change it's going to kind of give you an idea that you may be helping it a little bit on the way through and it should start to be a little bit more matched from backstroke to follow through all right so you saw craig's review pretty much kind of what i thought overall everything looks really good he said go ahead and start you know doing the assessment obviously maybe not as much shaffling in the forward press to begin with and The follow-through is definitely something I thought he would pick up on.
This last chip, I'm kind of running to that further flag down there.
I figured there's enough balls sitting over there where there is.
If I hit any more, I'm going to wind up hitting something else.
But you can see the grouping is really good.
Those are all within the two to five-foot range, I guess you'd say, depending on some of these outliers here.
But overall, very consistent as far as how the ball is coming off the club face, what it feels like, and then the rollout on top of it.
So overall, really pleased with it.
So we will take the assessment next and see what happens.
