Bryan turns in his 2nd submission of Pitching as he works through The GOAT Code. You'll see Craigs full review and what needs worked on! Make Sure You're Getting Your Swing Reviewed Here!
all right here we go with submission two in phase three the pitching phase uh in the last one a couple things craig told me to pay attention to was kind of you know not being so landlocked so to speak um so in this one i'm kind of focusing on moving my my core a little bit more than i was prior to so i've done two different pitch shots here this one here is a little bit closer like in the previous video and then i've also done one that's a little bit further back so we'll just take a look at this one real quick in slow motion a little bit of forward press going through club back and you can see the the lower half of me is is moving a little bit more than it was in the previous video again though good impact position i got uh you know some shaffling going on there face is still nice and square going through still hasn't turned over still got some extension in that wrist to this point keeping my head down a little bit better in this one that's still something i've really got to pay attention to i've got a little bit of a habit like duval used to do i don't even really notice it to be honest but it's clearly on the videos so this was basically just trying to button things up from the last one that craig that I turned into Craig so just you know again shorter one like it was before just trying to nail down those points that he was talking about in those all right so let's look a little bit of a longer one so in this one I'm a good bit back this is probably more of a I'd say close to a 20 yard pitch shot to be honest probably a little bit further than what it should be but I wanted to try to get something in there where I could get some wrist cock going so in this one you know same thing that I was trying to do with this shorter one just you know trying to get a little bit deeper a little further and again trying to get some wrist hinge going here that's probably a lot bigger of a backswing than i needed to take for this particular shot again this is probably 20 25 yards if you stepped it off all the way to the pin so a little longer than probably what i should be doing for pitching but again i wanted to get into a little bit deeper position with it um so come through you can see that head still wants to look you know further i did a pretty good job of it in the first one the shorter one but this one you know there it is again but coming through you know definite shaft lean at impact still have some extension in the wrist head didn't go too far but it's still definitely looking you're coming through face is still nice and square still nice and square still holding that impact position keeping it from turning over the core is definitely turned you can see how high up the ball is going so it gives you a good idea of how far away this pitch shot is it is right uphill probably much longer follow through than it needs to be as well we'll run through a couple here in full speed motion rough's definitely a little bit thick you know where this is definitely not a tighter lie or whatnot so it's more of a out of the rough shot but just trying to keep it smooth you know trying to hit the checkpoint so to speak again with shaffling face not turning over moving the core making sure i don't get as landlocked as uh craig was talking about all right so let's look at uh different angle all right so here we are back on the shorter one now you'll notice a little bit of a difference here and i'm definitely exaggerating this move and i wanted to try to get some of that steepness out you know there's a little bit of it that was there i wanted to try to get some of that out so you'll you'll really kind of see there's a little bit of a loop here that's kind of going on and i'm 100 doing it on purpose so you can tell like right about there is the finish of the back part of it it's very very subtle you'll see it a lot more in the longer shot but i wanted to try to take that that steep steepness out that craig was talking about so body's definitely turning a bit more here club face still you know not turned over ball taking off pretty good no real complaints you can kind of see the you know the two that i've hit already grouping wise you know they're all within that three foot range that you'd like to try to get them in obviously you'd like to get them a little closer but i'm not gonna argue if i can get everything within three feet all right so let's look at the further one here you can get a better idea of how far the pitch shot is away and really this doesn't do it a whole lot of justice it's further than what it looks and it's a lot more uphill than what it looks like too but in this one you're definitely going to be able to see that little loop motion that i was talking about because i'm really trying to over exaggerate what it is i'm i'm feeling to try to get that supination just a little bit especially on this longer one because again if you step this off it's probably every bit of 20 25 yards so coming back with it right about there you can definitely see how it drops in but i'm taking it outside quite a bit more than than what i should and i'm sure craig's going to say something about that but i'm 100 doing it on purpose i'm really trying to get more of a loop type feeling and and over exaggerating it just so when i go back to you know to hitting it normal you know i might take some of that steepness out but i mean you can see here where i'm looking i'm looking over here in the trees i got one eyeball maybe looking down at the ball it's pretty wild to look at it on video because it doesn't feel like that when i'm hitting it but it's you know just another reason why it's so important to to videotape yourself doing this stuff and get these reviews but of course turned through lower halves turned through I still need to lose 30 pounds but whatever ball flights good going right at the pin nice and high and soft and these greens are running really fast so can't really see where the ball winds up on these one more fast motion and then we'll turn it over to craig and see what craig has to say about it at the shorter version over here on the left hand side of the screen i like everything going on right here i love the little trigger right here the back swing getting going to here lots of good shaft lean looks like a nice solid basic pitch i mean i can't really complain as we get to the longer version i get a little bit concerned and it's not really that big a concern because sometimes you're going to be in a situation where you have to make a bigger swing or a bigger pitch shot out of the rough and you got to get that little bit of the carry but i've seen this with a lot of students is that as they start to advance and they get more comfortable with this pitch shot the swing starts to get pretty long okay and you start to get almost into like wedge play territory and you'll see you still got a little peekaboo with the eyes.
You still, you got a little bit of David Duvall, a little Anika Soren Stam in you right there.
But I want, I want to warn you just to be a little bit careful of getting really, really big.
I'm not saying that there's not situations where we need that, but as we do this and we progress from chipping to pitching to wedge play, I want everything to be very precise.
and if you look at Chuck over here on the right hand side of the screen what I want you to notice that this position is look at the difference of where his hands are now I know he's hitting a different yardage shot than you are right now and that's okay I just want you to be aware of because as you start to get into your skills assessment and you really start to tone things in you're gonna realize you don't need that big of a swing you can see how his hands are still below the belt right now um but some players they'll start making these big extravagant back swings and they'll end up de-selling come down or they'll start to add extension with the wrist or something to create more loft because they don't want to hit it so far because they've made such a big swing and once that momentum and that train gets rolling they can't stop from hitting it a mile so just make sure that when you're practicing this face on right now watch out for a little bit of peekaboo eyes, but just be careful that we don't start getting these just big, large, ginormous 40, 50, 90 yard pitch shots.
We hit 90 yard wide shots.
We don't need 90 yard pitch shots because I don't want you to start to put in things, stabilizers or things to slow the swing down because you know you're going to hit it much too far.
There are situations for it.
It's just something I want you to kind of keep your eye on.
Like I said, a couple of pet peeves, a couple things that i want you to just be aware of we look at the down the line lots of good right here club staying out in front you can see a tiny little clockwise right there lots of good stuff right there nice basic shot and you can see that head right there i mean you're you're already halfway down the green right now with your eyes and head i have to get you playing a georgia tech or something the only other thing that i want to mention things look really really good when we go back from here i'm going to kind of put a line right here on your forearms and i'm going to put one on the club and let me actually use the the straight tool let me do the same thing to chuck right here if you watch chuck as he's going back you're going to see that there there really isn't any push or anything that club's almost kind of working straight back on that line and then as he's working up from this position the club starts to work up the trail for him and there's no push of the lead arm into the chest or push of the lead wrist out very very quiet now when we look at yours what i want you to notice is that as you start to go back i'm not going to say that you're adding more pronation but the tendency when you start to make or you you start learning kind of supination and you're learning how not to fan the club open in the backswing will be to actually start adding it just a little bit and so you can almost see how your lead arm starts to go just a little bit into your chest and you're almost trying to force your right arm or your trail arm and trail wrist to really stay on top of it so your club face almost gets closed relative to your spine angle you can see your spine angles right here and look at your club face right now now this is still really good at the start just to get the feeling of club in front and then now a little bit of shallow so you can see that little baby supination motion right there really like seeing that i think that's really good but i want you to be a little bit mindful that i don't want you to actually start adding pronation with the trail wrist okay i don't want you to actually start turning down the face in an attempt to keep the face from fanning open and to get it to kind of set back on the wrist to get it up the trail form because you can see how that just gets it just a little bit out and a little bit down let's just work on the preciseness of it you start to go back right here if you're feeling just like the chip that you start with a little trigger and your core is going back and the trail arm is you know in control as you're making this back swing i want to just be a little bit careful of actually kind of getting back on that trail wrist but kind of pushing it out right there or keeping it pronated right there where it actually stays out a little bit too much so when you make this motion you don't really have to make it as big as you do it can just start to tighten up because that's what we want players to do get a little feel for it zero issue with that right now kind of going out and going a little bit in and as you can see it's barely a loop of anything but then you really want to kind of get that precise to where it's almost kind of imperceptible or this is staying out i just want to be careful that you don't actually start turning it down in an attempt to supinate it on the downswing.
Okay.
Other than that, you're really at the stage of just making it pretty and then moving on to your assessment.
I mean, this is the stage where the mechanics are looking really good.
I think you can really dial this in to keep making it just as pretty as Chuck's on this side where it's just the core driven motion in the trail arm where it's just working right up that and then it has that little bit of supination right there where it's almost imperceptible and then we'll just be a little bit careful with the eyes i mean you know you're you're looking to see whether the clouds are going to clear or whether the sun's peeking out over there or not other than that it looks great i think we watch out for just how big this gets and then we watch out and make sure that we don't add any pronation we watch out for a little bit of eyes and we just do a little light sanding just nice and precise and then i'll get you ready for your assessment i think it's working really well i think we made a lot of progress with this and this is just going to be a really good building blocker stepping stone going into wedge play all right cool so the shorter one you know everything is pretty rock solid there he said which is always great to hear the longer one i knew that there was going to be a couple things you know coming in with that i was over exaggerating trying to get that that supination by putting that loop in there so that's that's an easy fix i just you know just don't do it as much and basically just trying to you know go to an extreme to an extent so when i go back to you know feeling normal maybe some of that will will seek you know sink in a little bit so it won't be that way but cool so we're going to go ahead and take the assessment test and i will videotape that after I do a little bit more practice and we'll see how it turns out.
