Emiliano Grillo wins the 2015 Frys open. In this video, I'll show you how he uses his trail foot in the golf swing for tons of clubhead speed.

Hey, what's up everyone?

This is RST instructor Chris Tyler.

And we are back again with this week's tour analysis with Emilio Grillo, who just picked up his victory on the PGA Tour this past weekend at the Fry's Open.

We're going to be focusing in on how the right foot can help you extend the radius in your golf swing to help you add more speed with your driver.

So if you've been looking for a way to pick up more speed, you want to pay close attention to today's review.

Let's go and get started.

Okay guys, so as I said in the opener, We are going to be focusing in on how to pick up a little bit more speed with your driver this week with the roll of the right foot.

I know we talked a lot about this in the past and I probably sound like a little bit of a broken record, But I'm going to show you guys how important it is to be able to extend the radius in your golf swing so that you don't lose speed with your right foot, kind of driving towards your hands down in the hitting area, Which, in turn, can cause a lot of early extension and cause a lot of inconsistencies in your golf game.

So let's go ahead and take a look here.

So we're going to be focusing on the right foot this week, really in particular.

We're going to go ahead and load him up to the top of his golf swing.

You can see he gets really good separation.

So watch his hips here as he loads to the top of the golf swing.

There's not any sort of excess rotation.

Pretty much creates about 45 degrees of separation between the hip line and the shoulder line.

But now in the downward move, you're going to see a lot of external rotation of his lead leg.

It's going to help him pull his hips over to the lead side.

So you see that move right there.

That's actually called internal femur rotation.

But as his hips and knees get back to a square position right here, you can see that his hands are still up about chest height.

He hasn't yanked his arms down in front of him.

He's starting to pull his hands and arms down in front of him with his lower body.

But most importantly, In order for him to be able to create a lot of space between his body and his hands as he's releasing the club, he's going to keep this right heel down on the ground very, very well.

Very textbook look.

Let's just go ahead and take a look what that looks like.

So you can see here we are at impact.

See how the right foot stays down in the ground.

What I want you to notice as well, the space that he has between his thigh and his hands.

So you can see there's a pretty good size window.

So if you've ever noticed in your golf swing where your thighs and your hands are very close down the hitting area, then you need to learn how to use your right foot as a braking mechanism in your golf swing.

This is going to help you from spinning through the hitting area.

It's going to help you from causing a lot of early extension, bringing your hips forward.

And in turn, you're going to be able to have a lot more speed.

So if you've been struggling with picking up more speed in your golf swing, I encourage you to use your right foot properly in the golf swing.

And we've got a couple of great videos that are going to help you out with that.

So over here to the right hand side of the video player under the recommended videos tab, go ahead and click that tab and you will see all the videos that I talk about here.

The roll of the right foot in the downswing and the long arms drill.

So those of you guys that are looking for more extension and also the straight left leg at impact video.

That's another good video that's going to teach you guys how to push that heel onto the ground.

And then go ahead and release those hands and arms out in front of you.

And you'll have a lot more speed and a lot more extension.

And in turn, You'll be able to obviously vomit past all your friends out there and have a good day on the golf course.

All right, gang.

So that's this week's review.

I know we're in the midst of releasing a new video series on perfecting your impact.

And I encourage you all to understand how important it is to use the right foot in the golf swing properly.

And look out for this week's video on Thursday.

We will hopefully we'll get some really good progress moving forward.

Let's make it a great day.

Great video Chris. I knew he does keeps his foot down like that but i don't know how he does that even with a driver. I can do it with every club in my bag now except the driver and three wood. I just want you to know i am hitting the ball so well right now its ridiculous. That isnt meant to sound like i'm bragging. I just want to show my appreciation for your swing reviews, and also Craig's comments and just everything in general. Still like letting my right arm come off though and pounding drives out there with a draw (which my uncle thinks is hilarious). I live in Korea so I can't play cuz its so hard to get on courses here, but I hit balls everyday. It's actually almost like an unfair advantage to work on your swing if you do that for a year. I really want just want to say thanks again. What do you think I should do when I go to the range now?

Hi Nicholas, Glad you enjoyed the video and really excited to hear how good you are hitting it as well. I would just keep reinforcing the stuff you have been work on and continue to send us reviews, so we can make subtle refinements as needs. Keep up the great work. We love to hear success stories like this for sure.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this question. However because my question has to do with ball flight, specifically pro trajectory I figured this will do. I would like to know what has to be executed in the swing in order to produce a penetrating line drive ball flight in which the ball seems to float in the air until it reaches its apex and drops. All tour pros produce this flight. I've seen PGA , LPGA and champion tour players hit the ball with this penetrating flight. Unlike most amateurs who have more of a bell shaped curve flight. Also what is the best way to achieve this flight ? Thanks, Joe V

Hello Joseph. It is all about lead hand control into impact. Take a look at Knuckles Down and the first 4 videos in the 9 Days to Amazing Ball Striking Section to understand controlling ball flight trajectory.

Thanks very much for the quick reply . I will absolutely study these videos. Thanks again Craig. I would love to get a lesson with you next time I'm in Orlando!

Hello Joseph. No problem. And, any time you are in my neck of the woods (Orlando, or Atlanta). Would love to help you continue your swing build.

I have a question regarding the comment Chris made here about the lower body pulling the hands and arms down during the beginning part of the downswing. I hear a lot about keeping the upper body quiet during the downswing transition but then I become confused when I see videos like the throw the ball drill which makes it seem that the right arm should be thrown from the top of the swing. If the lower body is doing the work then when exactly does the right arm get thrown?

Hello Sean. If you throw the trail arm straight from the top you will lose your angle too soon. The trail arm does add speed in the swing, but it mainly needs to help you retain the angle coming down into the release position. Take a look at the Golf Swing Release Drill and the Step by Step Right Arm Drills. The lead arm will be the driver of your car as the trail will help you maintain the angle and add a little more pop.

Chris, I'm wondering: does the right foot staying passive result from some other good fundamentals or is it a fundamental itself that causes other good things to happen? I ask because I find it very difficult to get there and I know it is critical. Thank you

Sorry Mike, not sure how we missed this question. It can be either or really. We can use the right foot to help eliminate problems in the swing or you can see that once ingrained that the right foot just reacts to what the left side of the body is making it do. Again, sorry for the delay on this.
