In Phase 4 we are focusing on refining the details of the swing so that we remove those little flaws that cause inconsistency and bad shots at the worst time. Now that you have the main keys to consistency, control and speed, working through this phase will give you the confidence you need to hit those critical shots when the pressure is on.

Phase four is all about finishing the swing, the fine polishing, the fine details that allow you to consistently hit the ball laser straight really far and do it consistently every time with a full swing. We're gonna start with a takeaway. Then we're gonna talk about the back swing checkpoints. And finally the follow through the takeaway. The biggest mistake that most people make is start rolling the club inside. So we're gonna make it really simple. And of course, this is in the faults and fixes. If you're taking the club inside, we've got drills for this, but all you really need to do in the takeaway is rotate your rib cage. And if you'll see if I do that, where the club will end up is right down the target line, roughly right over the ball on my foot or toes, my hands will be nice and wide.

My right arm will be straight. The club will be towed up or slightly towed in. This is the simplest takeaway move you can make from face on. It's just rotation. Nothing's really changed. My club is parallel to the ground. My arms are nice and straight, nice and wide away from my hands. And my, when my hands are about pocket high is when that club shaft should be parallel to the ground. If you're doing anything extra to that, you're adding unnecessary movement to your swing, which will lead to inconsistency. So if the club's going inside or outside, you're gonna take a look at the faults and fixes for that. The back swing stuff, we boil it down into just rotation, your upper body rotation, elevation of your arms and flexion of this trail arm, R E F for short rotation, elevation flex. What does that look like?

We'll start with elevation and flexion first. You can see that if I just elevate my arms and add flex to this right arm, my arms in a perfect position at the top. And if I just rotate from my posture, watch what happens. So elevation inflection, just presetting my arms and get in my posture and rotate. I'm in a great spot. At the top. You can have a little bit more elevation or a little bit less elevation. There's a window for where your hands can be in here and you can still play great golf. But if you're really shallow and your hands are really deep, the clubs laid off, clubs across the line. Take a look at the faults and fixes because that's gonna cause you all sorts of unnecessary trouble. The final thing was the follow through, the biggest simplest checkpoint is looking at your lower body.

You want all of your pressure, almost all of it. 95% on the lead leg so that your trail foot is nice and light. You could pretty much pick it up in your follow through, and you're very relaxed. Your arms are relaxed, your upper body's relaxed, your lower body's relaxed, because you've let the club free will and pull you to a release lead nice and straight. And you can hold this pose all day long. The final phase of becoming a true ball striking master is the Axiom. It takes all of the mechanical things that you've learned, the positions and the mechanics and the biomechanics, and it puts them together so that you learn your own natural rhythm and tempo. You feel athletic again, you feel dynamic, you feel powerful, you don't have any swing thoughts. That's what the Axiom is for. It's gonna glue everything together, everything that you've learned, it helps you do it without thinking it gives you good fluidity in your movement.

So take a look at the Axiom introduction and Axiom video. Once you've gone through and mastered the first three phases of learning, how to get into a great impact position, learning how to release the club, learning how to add speed, take the Axiom. That will take you to the next step where you can glue everything together and start to feel truly athletic and play completely free of swing thoughts. And then the world is your oyster.

I hope you've enjoyed these first four phases of the golf swing to make it very simple, fun, and fast. To learn the swing you don't have to spend all day every day for months away from the ball. Getting worse before you get better, you can start hitting balls right away and learn proper mechanics and fix the things that you need to fix. Following our simple four phase system.

I asked a question about L to L drill and how it perhaps just can be extended into a full swing, but as usual Chuck didn't understand what I was talking about. Do you?

Hello Asle. What's you question about the L to L? From what I'm reading in this question. The L to L is a 3/4 swing. There will be a tiny bit more elevation, flexion, and rotation from there. If you can achieve L to L correctly. Full swing should be easier to attain.

Hello Curtis. Are you referring to the drill what club to use, or a manufacturer set?

Hello Curtis. Depends on what your goals are with the swing. If you are rebuilding the swing I wouldn't recommend purchasing new clubs right off the bat. I would wait until the swing is improved before spending money on getting fitted. If you need a set right now to begin work. I would as age, height, typical miss, current 7 iron carry. 2nd swing, Callaway Pre-owned, clubs4cash etc.. used club sites also a good option if you are on a budget.

Is there a video to actually do the golf swing starting with rotation? I'm not really sure at what point i start elevating my hands.

Hello Zack. Elevation begins in the takeaway, but the majority is from the takeaway position up. Take a look at the 4 Square Drill and Pool Noodle Drill for information dealing with elevation.

I am hitting it very well, thanks for the information in these videos, especially the "always clockwise" one. Is it OK that my right foot slides on the toe on the ground after impact, as if it is being dragged? Its about six inches. Like a tennis player before impact in a serve. I don't notice it, but it is very prominent on video. Thanks.

Hello John. The trail foot getting pulled or the dragging should be okay. Watch out for excessive movement however.

Hey Chuck. A little surprised you don't say anything about the slight hip bump to start the bs. Years ago this was an important part of your swing process. Biomechanics research and swing mapping have proven you were correct to teach this. Slight bump before rotating the pelvis.

Hey Carver, nothing has changed here. On these high level videos I'm trying to simplify the information as much as possible and use subtle language to get you to do what you need to do without explicitly saying it outright. Reason being is when golfers focus on something like this, they end up over doing and ruining the sequence. But, by focusing on natural movements that most will be familiar with I can get you to do it without telling you to do it - in most cases! Of course, all the faults and fixes cover the details still.

Hitting the longest straightest shots I ever have. 200 yard 5i (with range balls!!) seemed totally unachievable a few weeks ago. Never longer than about 175. Really, this is a really solid programme. Best since the Dead Drill IMO.
