Congrats to Jason Day for winning the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open and moving into the #4 position in the World Golf Rankings. In this new video, I'll show you how Jason Day builds a powerful backswing, centered around width and rotation. You must have these 2 key ingredients in order to take advantage of leverage in your downswing. I'll also show you a great way to focus your takeaway on rotation and I'll also show you how to get separation between the hips and shoulders in your backswing. If you have been looking for more clubhead speed in your game, then kick your backswing into high gear with rotation and width now.

Are there any differences between driver and iron RST swings?

Hello Jerry. The swing for the iron and driver will remain the same. The only changes will be in setup positioning. Due to the driver being a specialty club and wanting more of a positive angle of attack. You can adjust the setup to maximize potential. Take a look at Driver Setup Adjustments Video in the Advanced Setup Section and Driver Launch Angle Video in the Bomb Your Driver Series.

Jason seems to get his right elbow "behind his chest"at the top of the swing. Is this not a "don't do" teaching in RST? Even though this is not what you were trying to illustrate in this video, it is confusing to us RST students when you show a swing that isn't an example in all respects of RST. If what I'm saying above is true please point these difference so as not to confuse us learners. Tom Spriggs

Hello Tom. Jason's right elbow gets a little behind his chest, but much closer to RST than some other players out there. The purpose of these Tour Reviews isn't to confuse our members. I apologize for that because I definitely can see your point. However, what we are trying to do is show you how some of the best players in the world (typically the previous weeks tour winner) use keys from our RST approach to hit the ball consistently and long. They don't always match the ideal approach for the biomechanics we focus on. But, do use common elements. For example this video. Good rotation and width.

That's what I thought was going on. Thanks you. You might consider, when it is simple to do, to point out the things in these pros swing that are not ideal just so we know. Such as "Jason's right elbow gets a little behind his chest, but.his rotation and width are ..... A suggestion. Tom

Not my problem.........still NOTHING on unlevel lies, especially with the ball above my feet. Couldn't an instructor at least tell me how play the ball even though there are no videos?

and to further answer your question...with the ball above your feet, you are looking to grip down on the club to match the slope, stabilize the lower body at address, aim slightly left as the ball will try to move left based on the lie angle and the tendency to swing more shallow so you do not dig the club into the ground. Otherwise, I am working very hard to get the rest of the videos produced and released.

Aim left because the ball will move left? For some reason I would think that one would aim slightly right because the ball will move left or am I confused?

oops. I meant aim right as the ball will work left. My apologies.

My pleasure. You will start to see more uneven lie videos next week. Towards the end of the week and I do believe this one is next on the release list.

sorry scratch my lower comment - Chris said "try to get the club head to rotate at the same rate same rate as your sternum" So what does that mean? Thanks, Brandon

Chris (Certified RST Instructor)
Hey Brandon -- My point was to keep the clubhead moving in conjunction with rotation. We do not want the hands and arms to out race the rotation of the body. The point is to keep the arms in sync with the rotation. Hope that helps.

What does it mean "have your hands rotate as the same rate as your sternum." Thanks, Brandon

Chris, in this video you mention that the right shoulder moves into the vertical plane and the buttons on shirt also move into the vertical plane. Can you explain what the vertical plane is. thanks

Hey Anthony -- we generally think of the golf swing in plane(s). When we add trail arm flexion and elevation, we are moving the hands and arms into the vertical plane. If you were to draw a line from the hozel of the club up through the base of the elbow, from a down the line perspective, anything north of this line would be considered the vertical plane.

Seems to be a very useful video for the things you've been talking about in my swing.

Like the video but please be precise with language otherwise it gets confusing. At 6:52 you say "keep your buttons moving at the same rate as your sternum". I'm trying to figure out how one could not do that.

Hey Mark -- The sternum is located in the center of the chest. The chest should always be rotating as the shoulders are always rotating. I meant to keep the clubhead rotating at the same rate as the center of your chest all the way into the top of the swing.

What has happened to the recommended videos section that usually accompanies these Tour player reviews. I can no longer find them since the most recent website update.

Hey Jim -- There is a tab to the right of the video player, just above the list of videos, that says "recommended videos", You have to click on that tab to see the videos.

Hey Chris, thanks for your response and yes it is exactly were you said it is. However when I sent the message to you must of had something going on with that video as it did have an error message and no recommends at that time no tab for that video. FYI
