all right you guys excited yet you've got this great-looking tour caliber golf swing starting to come together and now as we add the golf club back into the mix you're going to start to see it all make sense you're going to see how the body moving correctly is actually what gets the club to move correctly so we're going to get this face on and down the line and at first it helps if you actually flip the club upside down because the club head's kind of heavy and it makes you want to start to use your hands and wrists a little too actively we want our hands to be relatively quiet throughout the swing so I'm going to take my setup let my arm hang down nice and free I'm going to rotate to the top squat to square post up now for many of you if you understand the concept of lag or leverage and most golfers end up with the club down here at this point you're going to see that this angle between the club shaft and my forearm created by my wrist is the true key to power imagine hitting a nail with a hammer it's really so much in your wrist if you have your hand like this and you're trying to hit a nail there's no power there but as soon as you let your wrist set that's where all the speed comes from and the same thing is true in the golf swing you can think of this as just kind of a long hammer so really what we're trying to do is get our big muscle movements to move the club into the correct positions for us from down the line you'll see again doing relatively very little with my arms I'm really just focusing on the three core movements of the dead drill swung up a little bit squat to square post up notice how the club shaft straight down the target line my wrist is still nice and flat here my hips are open my shoulders are square and I'm in a perfect position to deliver the club back to the ball so once you have that together you can then take the club flip it right side up it's okay to choke up on it at first because you'll feel the club's quite heavy once you stop holding onto the club so tight you want to feel how the club can swing nice and freely so as I go to the top squat to square post up clubs in a great spot club face is nice and square shaft is parallel to the ground do it again from this angle squat to square post up clubs right down the line club face square and from here once you got that move and you can see that you're getting all three of these checkpoints now let's see if we can do it with some speed all I did there turn squat to square post up release just let the club go let the club swing freely through that hitting area you don't need to try and control the club at that point you're just focusing on your big body movements and if you get those right the club is going to have plenty of speed and you're not going to have to work for it and that's the true key to being a consistent ball striker
