GOATY is looking to make sure your first move into the backswing is getting the trail hip loaded and this video shows you the strange feel you must make to do it properly and powerfully.
When Goatee detects that you haven't loaded into your trail side first, a lot of times what golfers start to do is start to sway off there, trying to get off there.
The movement is actually very subtle and very simple, but kind of strange.
So what needs to happen is you have to load into this trail side first, just like you would for any hitting or throwing sport, because you've got to get power from this trail side.
Both sides have to work together, of course, but the first move is getting into this trail side, and you don't want to do that by taking your whole body over there.
What you're trying to do is actually kind of tilt your pelvis a little bit.
So if you watch my belt line, I'm actually loading into my trail side, but my upper body is not swaying off the ball.
I'm actually just kind of moving my hips and my low back, and you'll see when I do this, it kind of creates this funky little move that you've seen Tiger do in this drill where he's trying to feel this motion.
Let me show you real quick.
You can see Tiger exaggerating this move here.
And while it probably does look very strange, and quite frankly, it even feels even more strange, once you do it in the context of the swing, you'll see that you can load into the trail side without your head swaying off the ball.
and you'll feel that your trail side's loaded, the lead leg is acting as a brace, and you're going to feel that you're able to get back into that lead side very easy.
So as you just saw in that clip of Tiger, what he's doing is he's getting his hip loaded to then be able to fall back into this lead side when the lead leg then can drive up.
So what you need to feel is just get this hip to move this way.
It feels weird at first.
It feels like you're kind of making kind of a weird move like this it's just as your leg is extending what i mean by that is your leg is straightening during the backswing as i'm letting my pelvis shift to the right or to my trail side that leg's going to straighten a little bit and extend and that's going to get create kind of a wedge it's going to help me fall back into the lead side very easily if you do this then you have to push off and get and then your head's going to be swaying all over the place so just let your hip kind of start to do this goofy little rocking motion where you feel yourself see into this this femur ball that the hip socket I want you just to feel like your hip loads into it and you feel your pelvis tilt just a little bit and you'll feel that your lower back has got to kind of move in a way that's going to allow a little bit of a what's going to feel to you like a curve because that's going to get that hip loaded and then you're going to be able to move back into that lead side way easier
